White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area

4.8/5
1k reviews
The Guangxi White-Headed Langur Ecological Tourism Area consists of four discontinuous rocky mountain regions: the Bapen, Daling, Tuozhu, and Banli sections. Its primary conservation focus is the white-headed langur, a nationally protected animal named for its snow-white crown and leaf-based diet. Discovered and named by Chinese scholars, this primate has thrived on Earth for over 3 million years. Today, it is found only within Chongzuo's approximately 200 km² rocky terrain, with a global population of just over 1,000 individuals. It is one of the world's 25 most endangered and critically protected primates, often compared to the giant panda in scientific value, earning Chongzuo the title "Hometown of China's White-Headed Langurs." After entering the park, visitors can reach the cliffside habitats of the langurs via a 10-min shuttle ride or a few hundred meters' walk. The langurs follow a predictable routine: foraging at dawn, resting in shaded cliffs at noon, and returning to their nests before dusk along relatively fixed routes. Patient observers are often rewarded with sightings. Infants under six months old, golden-furred and clinging to their black-coated mothers, are a highlight for wildlife photographers. The area also shelters other protected species like Francois' langurs and macaques, as well as rare plants such as cycads and golden camellias. Leveraging this rocky forest ecosystem, the park conducts year-round activities like science education, ecological experiences, research expeditions, field training, and photography. Observe quietly—never feed or chase the langurs. Bring binoculars or telephoto lenses for better cliffside details, and visit at dawn or dusk (avoiding noon) for higher chances of active sightings.China · Chongzuo

Sanniang Bay

3.4k reviews
Sanniang Bay is located on the southern coast of Qinzhou, a tranquil and beautiful small fishing village. Its famous attraction is the Chinese white dolphins inhabiting the nearby waters, though spotting them requires some luck. Beyond dolphin watching, the simple fishing village life here is also appealing. Whether strolling on the beach, foraging at low tide, or enjoying the peaceful coastal life, this is a perfect leisure destination. Most travelers come from downtown Qinzhou for recreation, with two main options. One is a round-trip day visit to enjoy the beach and rocky shores, then take a speedboat to spot dolphins before returning, taking about half a day. The other option involves a longer stay at the attraction, where travelers can lodge in fishermen-run homestays, savor fresh seafood, relax on the beach, and experience the tranquil coastal fishing village life for a leisurely getaway. Spring and fall are good times to see dolphins, with a higher chance of spotting them. They can occasionally be seen on the beach, but the better way is to take a boat trip. The attraction offers speedboating or fishing boat tours for dolphin watching, though no method guarantees a sighting. After sailing a certain distance from the coast, you will reach the habitat of the Chinese white dolphin. Sometimes you can spot these beautiful dolphins leaping out of the water. Adult white dolphins are mostly white and pink, while calves have darker skin tones. They are extremely precious, and the photos taken of them are utterly adorable. Many hammocks are hung among the trees on the beach of Sanniang Bay, where travelers can relax and enjoy the serene coolness of the seaside. There are also several large rocks by the shore, such as Sanniang Rock and Sea Mother Rock, where you can climb the reefs and take photos with the sea. In addition, the seafood in the fishing village is very fresh and worth trying.China · Qinzhou

This ancient town was established during the Song dynasty (960-1279) and finally got its name when inhabitants surnamed Huang and Yao became the majority of residents. The town has a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. The stone streets are still paved in the manner they were hundreds of years ago, and the expanse of buildings of gray brick and tile roofs is a profound sight. The ancient stage at the entrance to the town holds intricate murals on the beams of its eaves, and vivid images of various beasts rest on the flying eaves.China · Zhaoping

Yulong River

6.9k reviews
The Yulong River attraction is located in Yangshuo, Guilin. The Yulong River is a tributary of the Li River in Yangshuo, stretching over 40 km and often called the "Little Li River." Its clear, gentle waters flow past continuous karst peaks, rice fields, bamboo groves, and ancient villages. A bamboo raft ride downstream offers picturesque views at every turn—each snapshot a landscape painting. Compared to the Li River's grandeur, the Yulong River has narrower waters, a slower pace, and a more serene charm. Rafting pier Bamboo rafting is the signature activity of the attraction. Typically accommodating two people per raft, it involves navigating through small river dams, with the raft's bow plunging and water splashing everywhere, creating joyful moments during the itinerary. The rafting is generally divided into two sections: The upper section, lasting about one and a half hours from Jinlong bridge to Jiuxian, offers more pristine natural landscapes and passes by historical sites like the Ming-dynasty Yulong bridge and Xiniu pond. The lower section, starting from docks like Jima and Shui'edi toward Gongnong bridge, features more riverside villages and a stronger cultural atmosphere, with the endpoint near the Ten-mile gallery. When not rafting on bamboo boats, cycling along the river is also a popular choice. You can combine the single-arch stone bridge Fuli Bridge built in the Ming Dynasty, Yulong Bridge, and other ancient bridges with pastoral scenery into a loop route. The semicircular arch of Fuli Bridge and its reflection in the water create a picturesque scene, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts. To avoid crowds, consider starting early in the morning when the river is quieter and less crowded in the dawn light.China · Yangshuo

Our group consisted of two adults and one child (4 years old). It was the child's first time seeing a sea lion show, and they were fascinated by the many different kinds of fish, even wanting to see it again the next day. Although it looks like there are only two buildings, walking around was quite tiring. The route could be improved, especially the area for small land animals shortly after the entrance. Other zoos also have animals like goats and monkeys, so it's unnecessary to spend too much energy there earlier. The Sky Gate was quite novel and a little scary for the child, but it was a great photo opportunity and attracted many adults. Overall, it's more suitable for children; I wouldn't recommend it specifically for adults. A very satisfying trip.

When we arrived, there were no monkeys. The staff specifically reminded us that tickets weren't being sold at that time, so everyone waited in the lobby for a while until the monkeys appeared before entering in groups. The policy was very considerate. The monkeys were cute and not afraid of people; you could walk right up to them to see them, which was a unique experience.

We took the Beihai International Passenger Port cruise ship to Weizhou Island, which took 80 minutes. We were in business class on the second floor, and the ride wasn't too bumpy. I didn't experience any seasickness. From Weizhou Island to Beihai, we took a slower ship, which took about 110 minutes; this time, we were in business class on the third floor. It was good value for money, a very pleasant experience, and the food on board wasn't expensive.

San Niang Bay is a low-key yet stunning national AAAA-level scenic area in Guangxi, renowned as the "Hometown of the Chinese White Dolphin." Here, azure seas and golden sands abound, uniquely shaped rocks abound, and the original fishing village exudes charm, blending culture and nature seamlessly. The highlight is the opportunity to take a speedboat out to sea for a chance to encounter the rare Chinese white dolphins; with luck, you might even spot a dreamy pink one. The sand is fine, the water clear, and at low tide, you can go beachcombing and collect shells. The Tianya Stone and San Niang Stone offer incredibly photogenic views. The area is not heavily commercialized, and the seafood is fresh and affordable, making it ideal for leisure vacations, family trips, and dolphin watching—a hidden gem in the Beibu Gulf for secluded seaside experiences.
