Kotor Town Walls

Kotor Town Walls

4.1
The Kotor Town Walls, located in the coastal town of Kotor Old Town View, are one of the best-preserved medieval defense systems in the Mediterranean. This fortification system was first built in the 9th century and, after expansions and reinforcements during various periods of Byzantine, Venetian, and Austrian rule, finally reached its current scale in the 18th century. The walls blend Venetian and Balkan architectural features, with the main body constructed of off-white limestone, and feature bastions, towers, and 3 ancient city gates. The Sea Gate, built in 1555, is iconic; its lintel was once inlaid with the Venetian lion emblem, the Habsburg double-headed eagle, and the Yugoslav red star, witnessing the changes in regimes. Climbing the walls requires ascending stone steps, but the viewing platforms along the way and the panoramic views from the top of San Giovanni | Montenegro are beautiful. Overlooking from the heights, the red roofs of Kotor Old Town View, the winding streets, and the azure waters of the Bay of Kotor are all in view, which is breathtaking. Whether you are a history enthusiast or a seeker of natural scenery, this place offers an unforgettable experience.Montenegro · Kotor

Zabljak is located in the north of Montenegro. It is the administrative center of the Žabljak Municipality and the highest town in the Balkan Peninsula, with an altitude of about 1,456 meters. The town is located in the heart of the Durmitor Mountains and is surrounded by the Durmitor National Park. It is an important mountain tourism center in Montenegro. Žabljak is famous for its rich natural landscapes and diverse outdoor activities. There are 18 glacial lakes in Durmitor National Park, among which the most famous is the Black Lake, which is only a few kilometers away from the town center. In addition, the nearby Tara River Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in Europe and is a popular place for rafting and hiking. The climate in the area is humid continental, with cool summers, cold winters and abundant precipitation throughout the year. In winter, Žabljak becomes a gathering place for skiers and snowboarders, while in summer it is suitable for activities such as mountaineering, hiking and mountain biking. This is a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get close to nature, showing the natural beauty and cultural charm of Montenegro.Montenegro · Zabljak

A beautiful place near Podgorica. In June, there was a lot of beautifully colored water. The landscape is unusual. There's a nice cafe nearby, which also has a waterfall inside. You have to go see it!
