Jardin Majorelle was once a private villa built by French artist Jacques Majorelle, and was later purchased by French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who lived there for several years. Hassan II Mosque

9.1
4.8/5
243 reviews
The Hassan II Mosque is located on the Atlantic coast of Casablanca and was completed in 1993. It is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim travelers. A significant portion of the mosque extends over the sea, allowing worshippers to pray facing the ocean—a design inspired by the Quranic imagery of "the throne upon the water." Standing beside the mosque is its approx. 210 m tall minaret, topped with a laser beam pointing toward Mecca, visible from many parts of the city and even the sea. The mosque can accommodate over 100,000 worshippers simultaneously, both inside and outside, ranking among the largest in the world. Visitors must join guided tours to explore the mosque, which includes access to the prayer hall—a rare opportunity. The hall features polished marble floors, cedar wood carvings from the Middle Atlas Mountains, hand-cut glazed mosaics, and smooth plaster walls, all illuminated by Murano glass chandeliers. The central roof can open, allowing the hall to bask in sunlight on clear days. Outside, the seaside plaza and seawall offer iconic views, with white stone walls reflecting the Atlantic's blue hues and waves crashing nearby. Visitors are reminded to observe religious etiquette: shoes must be removed before entering, shoulders and knees should be covered, and women are advised to cover their hair (scarves are often available at the entrance). Photography is permitted during tours, but avoid pointing cameras at worshippers. In the morning, sunlight streams into the hall, highlighting the intricate mosaics and stonework. At dusk, the minaret framed against the sunset is a quintessential image of Casablanca.Morocco · Casablanca

Kasbah of the Udayas

4.8/5
106 reviews
Kasbah of the Udayas is a fortress complex in the capital of Morocco, situated on a promontory at the edge of the old city of Rabat, where the Bou Regreg River meets the Atlantic Ocean. In the mid-12th century, the Almohad dynasty built this fortress on the site of an existing military outpost, which was later expanded and used by the Alaouite dynasty. In the early 17th century, Moorish refugees expelled from Spain flocked here, using the fortress as a base to form a maritime armed force. As part of the historic district of Rabat, the fortress was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2012. The entrance to the fortress is the Bab Oudaia gate, built in the late 12th century, with its facade covered in geometric reliefs and Quranic inscriptions. Passing through the gate into the interior of the fortress, the walls on both sides of the streets are painted in blue and white. The Old Mosque is located next to the main street and was built in approx. 1150. In the southern part of the fortress lies an Andalusian Garden, designed in the style of Moorish gardens from the Al-Andalus period, shaded by orange and lemon trees. Adjacent to the garden is the National Jewelry Museum, housed in a palace built by Sultan Ismail of the Alaouite dynasty in the 17th century, which displays traditional jewelry, costumes, and handicrafts from across Morocco. The blue and white streets and alleys of the Kasbah of the Udayas also served as a filming location for the movie "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation".Morocco · Rabat

Sahara Desert spans across multiple North African countries and is one of the world's largest sandy deserts. Rolling sand dunes create wave-like patterns, with black volcanic rock formations scattered throughout. The rock walls preserve prehistoric hunting murals and petroglyphs, documenting ecological changes and human activity from thousands of years ago. The unique climate has shaped a distinct ecosystem, where drought-resistant plants, fennec foxes, desert lizards, and other animals thrive. Oases, sustained by underground water veins, are scattered along the desert's edge, where villages surrounded by palm groves preserve traditional mud-brick architecture, and nomadic peoples maintain their traditional way of life alongside camels. Travelers can experience desert camping, observe the Milky Way under a night sky with minimal light pollution, or explore desert fossils and geological views.Morocco · Errachidia Province

Boulevard de la Corniche is a coastal scenic road in Casablanca bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Located in the western coastal area of the city, it stretches for several km. The boulevard consists of a wide roadway and a wooden boardwalk on the seaside, where you can overlook the blue Atlantic Ocean by leaning on the railing. The area below the boardwalk railing that extends toward the beach is lined with leisure facilities such as cafes, bars, and swimming pools. A locally famous "Miami" cafe is located at the turn at the southern end of the boulevard, and the boulevard is named after it. The cafe is built on a high embankment with water on both sides. Sitting in the outdoor seating area, you have a view of the open Atlantic Ocean. Evening is the main time to visit. As the sun sets, the coastal boardwalk is filled with residents and tourists taking a walk, and the cafe terraces gradually become lively. Along the boulevard, there are also cultural exhibits and photo spots related to the film "Casablanca".Morocco · Casablanca

Marrakesh is located in southern Morocco and is known as the "Red City" due to the ochre-red earth used in most of its architecture. The heart of the city is the Medina, a World Heritage site densely packed with winding alleys and open-air markets. Souk Semmarine is one of the larger markets in the old city, offering everything from handmade carpets and leather goods to spices and copper lamps. Wandering through it is a cultural experience in itself. The center of the old city is Jemaa el-Fnaa. During the day, the square is filled with fruit juice stalls and handicraft booths, while at night it transforms into an open-air food street where snake charmers, storytellers, and traditional musicians take turns performing. Near the square stands the 12th-century Koutoubia. Its towering minaret is the city's landmark, and the gardens surrounding the mosque are also worth a visit. Bahia Palace showcases the craftsmanship of traditional Moroccan architecture, with its exquisite courtyards, carved wooden doors, and inlaid tiles. Outside the old city, the Majorelle Garden is famous for its unique "Majorelle Blue" architecture and exotic plants. It was created by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored and preserved by fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. At sunset, find a rooftop café in the old city, order a pot of mint tea, and watch the sunset cast an even richer glow on the ochre-red walls—this is one of the quintessential Marrakesh experiences.Morocco · Marrakech

Todgha Gorge

23 reviews
Todgha Gorge is located near Tinerhir in the eastern part of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, formed by the Todgha and Dades rivers cutting through limestone over a long period. Starting from Tinerhir, a road winds into the gorge, passing mud-brick villages and ancient kasbahs along the way. As you go deeper, the rock walls on both sides gradually rise and narrow, reaching a width of only approx. 10m at the narrowest point, while the cliffs tower hundreds of meters high. Standing at the bottom of the valley and looking up, the steep, smooth rock walls look like a split in the earth that blocks out most of the sky. The rock walls in the core section of the gorge are nearly vertical and smooth, with limestone walls displaying a blend of brownish-red and golden hues that show distinct layers under the sunlight. During the dry season, the riverbed is mostly dry and can be traversed on foot, while water levels rise significantly during the rainy season. You can traverse this section by car or on foot. Walking offers a more direct experience of the gorge's imposing and magnificent scale without the obstruction of a car roof. Hundreds of rock climbing routes have been established on the cliff walls, ranging from beginner to advanced levels, making it a popular destination for climbers in Morocco. You can hike a loop along the trail, which offers panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains highlands and passes through Berber villages.Morocco · Tinerhir

Aït Benhaddou is an ancient earthen settlement in the heart of the Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco, situated on the ancient trade route connecting the Sahara Desert and Marrakech. It was once an important transfer station for the transport of gold, salt, and spices in trans-Saharan trade. It is said that the village was founded in the 8th century. Although most of the existing buildings were constructed after the 17th century, they use earthen construction techniques that have been passed down for hundreds of years, making it a representative relic of earthen architecture in southern Morocco. The entire settlement is built along the hillside, with layers of red earthen walls, corner towers, and kasbahs connected to each other, forming a spatial pattern enclosed by narrow alleys and high walls. The towering defensive walls and corner towers were used to fend off raids in the past, while the layout of residential houses, mosques, and public spaces in close proximity reflects the lifestyle of the Berber community. At the higher part of the village is the former hilltop granary; climbing up here offers a panoramic view of the entire settlement and the valley. While walking through the alleys, you can also see small handicraft shops opened by local residents, and a few families still live in the old village today. Due to its unique ancient city view, this settlement has become a filming location for numerous film and television works. Films such as "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Jewel of the Nile," "The Mummy," and "Gladiator" were all shot here, and it also served as a filming location for the city of Yunkai in "Game of Thrones."Morocco · Ait Ben Haddou

Hercules Caves

7.4
4.6/5
93 reviews
Hercules Caves are located on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean near the outskirts of Tangier, serving as a sea cave that combines natural wonder with mythological significance. The interior space of the cave is not large; after walking a few dozen meters from the entrance and turning a corner, you reach the end—where there is an opening facing the sea, slightly above sea level. What makes this opening remarkable is that its outline resembles the map of the African continent, which is why it is also known as the "Hercules Caves." Looking out from inside the cave against the light, you can see the vast Atlantic Ocean through this uniquely shaped opening, with seagulls circling in the air and waves crashing against the cliffs. The formation of the cave opening is the result of both natural forces and human activity. Millennia of wave erosion initially carved out the sea cave, while people once mined raw materials here for making millstones; the circular mining marks remain on the cave walls to this day, unintentionally contributing to the shape of the opening that resembles the map of Africa. It is also one of the oldest known human habitation sites in Morocco, with carvings and paintings from different eras left on the rock walls.Morocco · Tangier

Chefchaouen

4.8/5
78 reviews
Chefchaouen is nestled in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco. Founded in 1471, it was originally a defensive mountain town. It is famous for the extensive use of blue on the walls of the old town's buildings—ranging from sky blue and indigo to lavender, in various shades—earning it the nickname "Blue Pearl." Regarding the origin of the blue color, a widely circulated theory is that Jewish residents who moved here in the early 20th century introduced the blue paint to the buildings, believing that blue symbolizes the sky and the spiritual world. The heart of the old town is the cobblestone Plaza Uta el-Hammam, surrounded by cafes and shops. Standing nearby are the 15th-century Kasbah fortress and the Grand Mosque of Chefchaouen with its octagonal minaret. The Kasbah houses an ethnographic museum, and its courtyard is also a great vantage point for overlooking the entire blue old town. Walking uphill from the old town along the mountain path, you can reach the site of the Spanish Mosque on the hill, which is a classic location for viewing the panorama of Chefchaouen and the sunset. The alleys within the old town are winding and intricate. The blue walls and stone steps form a natural photographic backdrop. Shops along the street sell specialty items such as Berber hand-woven goods, natural dyes, leather products, and local oil paintings. Not far outside the northeast gate of the old town is the Ras El Maa spring, where mountain spring water gushes from the rock wall and forms a small stream. Cats are often seen resting on steps and in doorways throughout the city, adding a touch of relaxed atmosphere to the blue streets and alleys.Morocco · Chefchaouen

Visiting the Hassan II Mosque was the absolute highlight of my time in Casablanca. From the moment I stepped onto the oceanfront esplanade, I was struck by its sheer scale—the intricate zellij tilework, carved cedar ceilings, and the towering 210-meter minaret are breathtaking in person. The guided tour was well-organized and gave fascinating insight into Moroccan craftsmanship and Islamic tradition, but the most unforgettable moment was standing in the glass-floored prayer hall, watching the Atlantic waves roll directly beneath my feet. Even if you're not religious, this is a masterpiece of art and engineering that deserves a spot on any traveler's itinerary. Just be sure to arrive early for the best light and fewer crowds—it's an experience that will stay with me forever.

【Ait Ben Haddou】The ancient city is located in Ouarzazate, Morocco, in an oasis on the edge of the Sahara Desert. The entire castle is composed of traditional Moroccan mud houses, mostly built with a mixture of licorice and terracotta. The appearance is slightly rough, but at a glance outside the ancient city, you can be shocked by its spectacular and sacred pattern. As early as 1987, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage. Walking into the ancient city, you will find that these golden red adobe castles and turrets seem to have drilled out from the ground, which are stunning and dramatic. People can't help but admire the local construction technology, especially under the sunlight, these castles are even more charming. This place not only attracts tourists from all over the world, but also Hollywood directors favor this charming ancient city. Many movies that are popular with movie fans around the world have been filmed here, including "The Lost Tomb", "Star Wars Prequel", "Mission Impossible V", etc., so the ancient city of Haddou has also won the title of Hollywood in North Africa and has become a holy place for many movie lovers.
