National Museum, New Delhi is a comprehensive museum in India. It houses over 200,000 artifacts, spanning from the Indus Valley Civilization to the modern era. The collection includes stone sculptures, Buddha statues, miniature paintings, textiles, coins, weapons, and more, with the three-story exhibition halls generally arranged by era and category. Highlights worth prioritizing: The "Dancing Girl" bronze figurine unearthed from Mohenjo-daro in the Harappa Gallery is about 4,500 years old and measures only about 10 cm, making it one of the iconic artifacts of the Indus Valley Civilization. The Buddhist Art Gallery displays relics unearthed from the Piprahwa Stupa, some of which are now housed in this museum, and are frequently visited by Buddhist devotees and tourists. Gandhara sculptures depict the Buddha using Hellenistic realistic techniques, contrasting with the soft and restrained indigenous style of the Gupta period. Mughal court miniature paintings and South Indian temple bronze sculptures are also rich in highlights. Among them, the Central Asian Gallery is particularly worth seeing—it displays Silk Road artifacts obtained by British archaeologist Aurel Stein during his three expeditions to Central Asia in the early 20th century: silk and hemp banners from theDunhuang Library Cave, murals from Turpan's Tuyugou and Bezeklik Caves, pottery figurines and "Fuxi and Nuwa" silk paintings unearthed from the Astana Tombs, etc. These were transported to New Delhi in 1918 and later incorporated into the museum's collection, where they remain today. The gallery is extensive with a long walking route, so you can use the audio guide to help understand the numerous mythological and Buddhist images.New Delhi · 2.7 km from downtown

The India Gate is located in the city of Delhi. It commemorates the Indian soldiers who died in the First World War and the Third Anglo-Afghan War, and is also the dividing line between the old and the new Delhi. Under the India Gate flag is the monument to the Unknown Soldier. The monument is made of black marble and has a model of a gun standing on it to commemorate the soldiers. Usually there are many soldiers around the gate of India, tourists can take pictures with the soldiers, but the consent of the soldiers is required. There will also be many small vendors nearby, where you can pick up some small souvenirs. There is also the Parliament Building near India Gate where you can visit and take pictures. If you have more time, you can come back to enjoy the night view. The lights on the white building are very shocking.New Delhi · 2.5 km from downtown

Bangora Sahibi is near Connaught Place. It is the largest Sikh temple in Delhi. The white building is made of white marble, and the dome is covered with gold leaf, which is very luxurious and eye-catching. The interior of the temple is also dominated by white and gold colors. The clergy chanted scriptures, the believers sat on the carpet and prayed devoutly. The music echoed in the temple, and the whole scene was pious and holy. The pool water here is regarded as holy water by Sikhs, and many believers will come to fetch water specially.New Delhi · 1.9 km from downtown

Hisganji Guru, located in New Delhi, India, is a very famous local religious site. According to legend, the ninth master of Sikhism, Deg Bahadur, was beheaded here by the order of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb because he refused to convert to Islam. Before his body was dismembered and displayed to the public, he was stolen by one of his disciples at night and set fire to his own house to cremate Bahadur's body. In this place, another monastery, GurdwaraRakabGanjSahib, was built. Bahadur's severed head was taken to Anandpur Sahib by another of his disciples to be cremated by Bahadur's son, the tenth generation of Sikhs. This place is also the Hiskanji Guru.New Delhi · 2.4 km from downtown

Located in the southeast of Delhi, the Lotus Temple was built in 1986 and named after its shape resembling a blooming lotus flower. Although it is a Ha'i chapel, people of any race and religion can pray here, showing great inclusiveness. The temple is built with white marble, which looks like three layers of white petals from a distance, and the "lotus" is supported by nine clear water pools. The tall and empty temple has neither statues nor decorations such as carvings and murals. Rows of white marble benches and a podium for the chair were set on the smooth floor. There is no special ceremony required to enter the temple, and no matter what religion you have, anyone only needs to take off their shoes and enter the temple, sit down and meditate and pray.New Delhi · 9.7 km from downtown

What travelers say about New Delhi

The National Museum in New Delhi, established in 1949, houses more than 200,000 art objects spanning over 5,000 years of Indian art, history, and craftsmanship, making it one of the most significant cultural institutions in the country. Its collection covers an extraordinary range: Indus Valley Civilization artifacts from Harappa and Mohenjo Daro, Buddhist relics, miniature paintings (one of the largest such collections in the world), sculpture, jewellery, textiles, coins, and decorative arts from across the subcontinent. Many visitors describe the Harappa and Mohenjo Daro galleries as a particular highlight, and the museum is genuinely vast, large enough that serious history enthusiasts could easily spend a full day exploring it rather than the typical 90 minute to 3 hour visit most people manage. Entry is inexpensive for locals (around Rs. 20 to 50) and more for foreign visitors (roughly Rs. 500), and an audio guide, widely recommended by reviewers for the depth it adds, is available for a small additional fee. That said, recent reviews paint a mixed and somewhat inconsistent picture of the visitor experience. Several travelers in 2024 and 2025 reported the museum "in transition," with large sections, sometimes cited as 60 percent or more, closed for renovation or packed away ahead of a planned move to a new building, meaning some of the most famous pieces may simply not be on view depending on when you visit. Complaints about weak or absent air conditioning, poor signage and wayfinding between galleries, inconsistent availability of the audio guide and highlights tours, and notably unhygienic restrooms in the older sections come up repeatedly, alongside criticism that newer galleries (such as the upgraded Tribal and Colombian art sections) are far better maintained than the aging ground floor and main Harappan displays.

I appreciate the windows of India Gate the most. They are perfect stone carvings! They are shocking. The windows are carved at equal distances. Even if they are processed by modern machines, there will be a large error. But you know, these windows are so exquisite, at least visually, without any difference. It is really shocking.

Qutb Minar is one of India’s most remarkable historical landmarks, rising majestically above the ancient ruins of Delhi. Built in the early 13th century, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its towering red sandstone structure, intricate carvings, and centuries of history. Every detail tells a story of art, architecture, and the rise of the Delhi Sultanate.

A truly serene and beautiful spiritual gem in the heart of Delhi! The Bangla Sahib Gurudwara is stunning with its pristine white marble architecture, golden domes, and the peaceful Sarovar (holy pond) that reflects the entire complex beautifully. The entire place is exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which adds to the calm and devotional atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, history, or a spiritual visit in Delhi. Must-visit! The only minor downside is that it can get quite crowded, especially on weekends and evenings, but that’s understandable given its popularity.

It is a historic Gurudwara and is located in Old Delhi near Chandni Chowk. Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib is located near the Delhi metro and is next to a Mosque and a Temple. Don’t forget to have the ‘langar’ when you visit this place. As a tourist, you must visit Old Delhi and explore the bits you won’t see anywhere else in the world.

The Lotus Temple is really a huge lotus-shaped building with a very rough design style. I don’t know the characteristics of this building. I have not entered the temple, but have only seen it from a distance. It is in line with the rough design style of Indians and is very representative.

An ancient and vicissitudes of life temple that must be visited. The kindness of ordinary people is insignificant but warms people's hearts. I bought a bag of 6 breads for 1.8 yuan, and deliberately picked the hard ones that I like the most. The boss picked a bag of soft white ones and asked me to change. He pinched them with his hands to show that they were soft, and he gave up only after I insisted. The milk tea uncle finally let me know that milk tea generally only costs 50 cents. In the past, I paid 1 yuan and never got a return. He took the initiative to return 50 cents.
