Nizwa Fort
Nizwa Fort was built in 1668 in the center of the old city of Nizwa. It was originally constructed as a sturdy defensive fortress, and it is said that seven defensive mechanisms were set inside to fend off enemies. In fact, there are many such ancient castles in Oman, and Nizwa Fort is one of the oldest and largest, having been well restored in recent years. Inside the castle, there is a museum that showcases the history of Oman and the lives of the local people. The castle features various hidden rooms, chambers, and battlements, with storage rooms, prayer rooms, dungeons, and kitchens still retaining their original appearance, reflecting a strong Arabian style. Nizwa Central Souq
Nizwa Central Souq is an ancient open-air market just a few steps away from Nizwa Fort. The exterior features traditional Omani architecture, while the interior is very modern and clean, selling fruits, vegetables, meat, and daily necessities. Every Friday, farmers from the surrounding areas bring their livestock, such as goats, camels, and sheep, to the souq to buy or sell. You will see men wearing robes and round caps gathered in sheds where sheep and goats are penned in circles, and bidders can take the livestock home. Here you can buy souvenirs such as gold, silver, and antiques, and you can even find frankincense. Falaj Daris Park
A falaj is a unique agricultural irrigation method that can deliver water to almost every corner of the country without using machinery. In principle, it's comparable to what we call a qanat. In Oman, there are still more than 3,000 falaj in use, woven like a spiderweb. Falaj come in several forms. The first, called Dawudiya falaj, is a channel built below the surface, several kilometers long and tens of meters deep. Its water comes from rain collected in mountain foothill soils. The second, called gail falaj, draws water from surface and near-surface flows. It is usually about 500–2,000 m long, and its source is valley streams. The third, known as spring-fed falaj, takes water directly from springs and is 200–1,000 m long. In 2006, Falaj Daris Park, together with 4 other relatively large irrigation channels, was listed as a world heritage site. It is a Dawudiya falaj, about 2 km long, and it runs from a mountain gorge to the old town center, where local residents rely on it to irrigate crops and supply household water. In the section closer to the city, there is a small Falaj Daris park that displays a short stretch of the channel and is free to enter. The channel in the park has clear, flowing water and is very refreshing. Avdiyivka, also known as Avdeyevka in Russian, is a city and administrative center of Avdiyivka Municipality in Pokrovsk District, Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine. It is 22 kilometers away from the provincial capital Donetsk. It was founded in 1778 and covers an area of 29 square kilometers. It is 212 meters above sea level and has a total population of 31,392 in 2022.
