Champagne Pool

Champagne Pool

4.5
New Zealand sparkling wine is crisp, delicate, and unforgettable. However, the Champagne Pool located in Waiotapu is not something just anyone can enjoy. Carbon dioxide in the pool releases champagne-like bubbles. Standing and watching from afar, the striking orange mist carries a hint of mystery. Geysers, colorful hot springs, and bubbling mud pools further add a mythical touch to this geothermal world.Waiotapu · 26.9 km from Ohakuri

Lake Taupo is New Zealand's largest lake, located on a volcanic plateau in the central North Island. The upper reaches of the Waikato River (known as the Tongariro (Tongariro) River) enters from the south, and the lake flows from the northeast of the lake through the Waikato River. The lake water covers several craters. There are many geothermal hot springs around the lake, which are either used for recuperation or used to generate electricity. Kelly Tarton's Auckland is an aquarium converted from an abandoned sewage plant. It was completed by New Zealand marine archaeologist Mr. Kelly Tarton for 10 years. There are 8 major themes on display with its own characteristics. In the fascinating winter wonderland, you can take the Icefield Expedition Vehicle into the viewing area at minus 2 degrees Celsius and watch the colonies of King and Gentoo penguin walking on the artificial snow or diving underwater. You can also experience the excitement of big sharks and Stingrays swimming by in the transparent glass landscape tunnel of the underwater world, and witness how the mighty giant lobster coexists harmoniously with its neighbors. If you want to see it up close, you can put yourself in a cage into the shark viewing tank, or even dive directly into the shark viewing tank. △ Watch giant sharks up closely △ Learn more about marine life in the Southern Hemisphere △ Watch the adorable feeding process of the colonies of King and Gentoo penguinsNew Zealand · Auckland

Lake Rotorua

4.7/5

There are 16 lakes in the Rotorua region. Lake Rotorua is one of the larger lakes in the area, and the city is named after it; the city center is located on the southern side of the lake. Lake Rotorua is also the third-largest lake in New Zealand. About 200,000 years ago, a massive volcanic eruption occurred here, causing the ground to collapse and form a circular crater 16 km wide. Rainwater filled the crater, forming Lake Rotorua. It is impossible to count how many hot springs there are in Rotorua. You see plumes of steam in the air every few steps. Sometimes, two or three springs cluster together, creating a misty, ethereal scene that feels like a fairyland. The city truly lives up to its name as a geothermal city; a faint scent of sulfur drifts everywhere, and geothermal hot springs are found throughout the area, with spa pools available in hotel rooms. The area features shimmering lake waters and flocks of seagulls, and watching the boiling gray-yellow mud of the hot springs has made it a popular tourist destination. Geothermal activity continues unabated beneath and around the lake. Geothermal steam constantly lingers along the lakeshore, and the high sulfur content in the lake water creates a marvelous greenish-blue hue. Strolling along the shore, you can see the calm lake water surrounded by rolling hills with soft curves that meet the horizon. You can see large flocks of black swans gracefully swimming in the lake, and countless rainbow trout swimming beneath the vast surface. It would be wonderful if you could wake up early and head to the lakeside to watch the sunrise. Facing the morning light, blue, red, and gold colors interweave and spill across the lake, creating a magnificent sight. Accompanied by the faint light, various birds such as swans, wild ducks, and seagulls drift on the lake, sending ripples across the tranquil water. If you visit in winter, you will see a different scene. The grass is covered in frost, turning everything white, but the plants near the hot springs are flushed with fresh green from the steam, as if the city is experiencing two seasons at once—winter on one side and spring on the other. Stepping on the stone steps of the hot spring and cupping a handful of water, it feels warm and smooth. The active volcanoes in Rotorua are well worth seeing. The scheduled eruptions of the active volcanoes every morning are a spectacle that will leave you in awe of nature's power. Volcanic mud is a major feature here; the black mud bubbles and gurgles, and just looking at it makes you feel the intense heat. There are many activities available, including lakeside cruises, sailboats, kayaks, seaplanes, helicopters, and jet boats. You can take a sightseeing boat trip or participate in various activities such as fishing trips and water cruises. In the middle of the lake lies Mokoia Island (Mokoia Island), where countless water birds rest. It was once a Maori fortress and is the setting for a great New Zealand love story. There is a service center in the park in front of the Novotel Hotel where you can sign up to visit Mokoia Island. Enjoy a hot spring bath at Waikimihia (now renamed Hinemoa Pool) while taking in the timeless beauty of the lake. If you have enough time, a visit to the nearby Te Puia - Rotorua, NZ is also a great choice, just a 5-minute drive from downtown Rotorua. In addition to enjoying Maori song and dance performances, the Puhutu Geyser is a spectacle not to be missed.Rotorua · 45.1 km from Ohakuri

Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve

4.8
4.7/5
65 reviews
Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve is located in the Taupo Volcanic Zone, where hundreds of hot springs and bubbling mud pools spread along the valley. The sinter deposited by the spring water forms layers of white terraces around the vents, with steam rising year-round and the air filled with the signature scent of sulfur. The signature attraction in the reserve is the Pohutu Geyser, whose name means "splashing water" in Māori. During an eruption, the water column can shoot up to approx. 30m. It typically erupts one to two times per hour and is one of the largest active geysers in the Southern Hemisphere. The Prince of Wales Feathers Geyser beside it often releases steam first; seeing the smaller geyser erupt often signals that the larger one is about to follow. This valley is also the ancestral home of the Māori people, who still use natural geothermal steam to cook food and heat water for bathing. The area also preserves traditional craft displays such as wood carving and weaving, as well as Māori song and dance performances. Please stay on the designated paths throughout your visit and do not approach the hot springs or mud pools. The sulfur scent is strong, so visitors sensitive to odors may want to prepare accordingly.Rotorua · 35.1 km from Ohakuri

Lake Taupo is so big that it looks like a sea. It is a must-see attraction when traveling to the South Island of New Zealand! If you live in the city, you can walk to the lake. There are many sailboats and yachts, and you can play golf directly in the lake. New Zealanders are really good at playing. It is also very comfortable to lie in the green space by the lake and bask in the sun. All hotels are fully booked during the peak travel season, so you must book in advance. There is also a Huka Falls nearby to check in.

Fiery Craftsmanship: Our Visual Feast at LAVA Glass Art Studio When we stepped into the LAVA Glass Art Studio on the North Island of New Zealand, a fiery and creative atmosphere immediately surrounded us. This is not only a place to display glass artworks, but also a wonderful space to experience the charm of glass making on the spot. We are full of anticipation and curiosity about the upcoming exploration journey. The interior of the studio is colorful, and the light shines through a variety of glass works, reflecting dreamy light and shadow. We saw many exquisite glass artworks here, from exquisite ornaments to large-scale installation art, each work embodies the infinite creativity and superb skills of the artists. We shuttled between these works, and every step could feel the unique charm and infinite possibilities of glass art. What fascinated us most was the on-site glass making performance. Next to the high-temperature furnace, the artists wore professional protective clothing and used long-pole tools to skillfully shape the molten glass. We saw the birth process of a glass work from scratch, which was a magical experience of transforming fire and sand into art. In this process, we not only witnessed the artists' mastery of materials, but also felt their persistent pursuit of beauty. In the studio shop, we also have the opportunity to buy these unique glass artworks. Each piece is handmade and carries the artists' hard work and soul. We carefully selected them and hoped to take these New Zealand-style artworks home as unforgettable souvenirs of our journey. As the visit came to an end, our impression of LAVA Glass Art Studio became more and more profound. This is not only a place to display and sell glass artworks, but also a vivid classroom for people to understand glass art and experience the creative process. Our journey has added a special cultural experience because of this visit, and the fiery ingenuity and creativity will shine in our memory for a long time.

The scenic spot is not crowded, but it is very interesting. It takes about an hour to walk around. As long as you look at the geothermal features, it is a bit hot to walk in the summer, and you must wear sunscreen, but it is worth it.

Downstream of Lake Topo is the longest river in New Zealand's North Island, the Waikato River. The Hoyato and the river pass through a narrow strip of land called the Shikaka Falls, and then are blocked by a dam. The dam releases water every afternoon, three times at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. During the peak tourist season in summer, it seems that it will release water again at 12pm. When the water is released, you can see the dry river valley. Gradually, the water rises, and the clear pool bottom becomes a white torrent. It is very spectacular and worth seeing. And all of this is free, which is really a capitalist welfare.

It was so much fun! There were so many animals, especially the kiwi, New Zealand's national bird, which is as rare as the giant panda. I got a really clear picture of it, and I was so happy! Actually, this zoo is one of the most interesting and beautiful zoos I've ever been to. The animals were incredibly energetic and visibly healthy. The park is huge and all green, and there are many entertaining shows.
