38 reviews
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, located in Muscat, the capital of Oman, is a national grand mosque commissioned by Sultan Qaboos to commemorate his 30-year reign and gifted to the nation. The entire complex is built with hundreds of thousands of tons of Indian sandstone. Its white exterior walls are elegant and solemn, and five minarets surround it, which, together with the central grand dome, form a striking city landmark in Muscat. The core of the visit is the square main prayer hall, which can accommodate thousands of worshippers. The floor is covered by a single hand-woven Persian carpet, which was woven by over 600 Iranian weavers over approx. 4 years. It blends classic patterns from Tabriz, Kashan, and Isfahan, presented in over 20 different shades of color. Looking up, you will see an Italian crystal chandelier adorned with hundreds of thousands of crystals, which complements the carpet beneath your feet. Together with the outer courtyard, corridors, and a separate women's prayer hall, the entire mosque can accommodate approx. 20,000 worshippers at one time.Oman · Muscat

Wadi Shab is located near Tiwiawi in northeastern Oman. This scenic spot, formed by the long-term erosion of seasonal river waters in an arid region, combines canyons, springs, waterfalls, and emerald pools, making it one of Oman's most beautiful natural wonders. Wadi Shab's charm lies in its richly layered natural landscape. Visitors typically first cross a shallow river mouth by small boat and then hike along the canyon. Along the way, they see steep rock walls, palm-lined riverbanks, and natural pools that gleam emerald in the sunlight. As they venture deeper into the canyon, the water becomes more intense, and the hike transforms into a swim, requiring them to navigate narrow crevices to reach cave waterfalls hidden behind the rocks—a thrilling and unforgettable experience. Today, Wadi Shab has become a paradise for hikers, swimmers, and photographers, showcasing not only the pristine beauty of Oman's nature but also offering a profound experience of the unique and tranquil natural charm of the Arabian Peninsula.Oman · Tiwi

Nizwa Fort was built in 1668 in the center of the old city of Nizwa. It was originally constructed as a sturdy defensive fortress, and it is said that seven defensive mechanisms were set inside to fend off enemies. In fact, there are many such ancient castles in Oman, and Nizwa Fort is one of the oldest and largest, having been well restored in recent years. Inside the castle, there is a museum that showcases the history of Oman and the lives of the local people. The castle features various hidden rooms, chambers, and battlements, with storage rooms, prayer rooms, dungeons, and kitchens still retaining their original appearance, reflecting a strong Arabian style. The fortress also has a tower. From the top, you can see an endless palm grove that looks like an ocean.Oman · Nizwa

It's so peaceful, natural, and relaxing to hike in this valley (wadi in Arabic) the water is beautiful and you can definitely/must swim in it The hike is 3 out of 5 when it comes to it's difficulty. And if you really want to reach the end you need to swim a bit to find the waterfall like an adventure.

Muscat Royal Opera House, a very exquisite new theater, with white exterior walls and tiles that are very noble, and there are supporting commercial areas and high-end restaurants around it. If you are lucky, you can visit the performance rehearsal, but you are not allowed to take pictures. I thought I could enter for free, but later a local brother reminded me to buy a ticket (at first he wanted us to give him cash, but later we insisted that he take us to the ticket office, 3 riyals per person)
