Phnom Penh Night Market

110 reviews
Phnom Penh Night Market is located along the Tonle Sap River and primarily sells daily necessities and souvenirs. It is popular with locals and is a great place to spend an evening. The night market was converted from a street garden. The original grass was replaced with a concrete paved floor, covering an area of approx. 4,000–5,000 m², and it is surrounded by iron pipe railings. Two entrances have been opened along the street side, one for entry and one for exit, making the flow of people quite orderly. Inside, there are multiple rows of uniform-sized colorful stalls, offering a wide variety of goods. These include clothing, shoes, hats, flowers, food, jewelry, cosmetics, and daily necessities, as well as numerous handicrafts such as stone carvings, bamboo and wood products, and Khmer-style Buddha ornaments, making for a dazzling array of items. It may be more popular with locals than with foreigners. Foreign tourists should remember to bargain hard when shopping here, as prices are often marked up.Phnom Penh · 2 km from downtown

Tonle Sap River

Located in the heart of Cambodia, the Tonle Sap River meets the Mekong River and is the passage between the Tonle Sap Lake and the Mekong River. At the same time, it is also the fourth largest source of freshwater fish in the world. There are more than 150 kinds of fish in the river, and the freshwater resources are very rich. The main reason for the abundance of freshwater resources is due to the unique phenomenon that the Tonle Sap River can "reverse the flow". In the rainy season from June to September every year, due to the melting of snow in the Himalayas, the water level of the Mekong River suddenly increases, causing water to flow into the Tonle Sap River from the Mekong River, reversing the flow of the Tonle Sap River; from October to May the following year , the river flows back to the Mekong River. Around the Tonle Sap River, there are famous scenic spots such as the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh and the National Museum. The scenery is beautiful, and it is very pleasant to walk or rest by the river. There are also various cafes, restaurants and bars on the banks of the river and north of the Royal Palace, where you can immerse yourself in a romantic colonial-style restaurant and enjoy a delicious Western-style meal. An exotic place to go.Phnom Penh · 10.9 km from downtown

Mount Phnom is the birthplace of Phnom Penh. It is approx. 100 m high, and the summit houses a statue of Lady Penh (the "Penh" in Phnom Penh), making it one of the symbols of Phnom Penh.Wat Phnom Daun Penh is located at the summit and is approx. 30 m high. The environment is very serene, and the temple is filled with magnificent Khmer-style reliefs. Climbing to the top of the tower at the summit offers a panoramic view of the entire city. There is also a moving story about Wat Phnom Daun Penh. Legend has it that in the 14th century, a woman named "Penh" found a Buddha statue that had drifted there along the Mekong River during a flood. She built a small hill and a temple to enshrine it, which gradually developed into a bustling town. In the 15th century, the national capital was moved from Angkor to this location and was officially named "Phnom Penh", meaning "Hill of Lady Penh", which is known as "Phnom Penh" by local overseas Chinese.Phnom Penh · 2 km from downtown

Royal Palace of Cambodia (Phnom Penh) is one of the city’s most iconic attractions, praised for its stunning Khmer architecture, golden spires, and the famous Silver Pagoda. Visitors generally find it beautiful and culturally rich, though reviews note it can be crowded and parts of the complex are off-limits.

Very interesting learning about the history. We didn't do it, but if you're really wanting to get all the info, I recommend having a guide or paying the extra 5$ for the audio tour as a lot of the stops do not have info signs you can read.

I’ve been to Mekong River through Vietnam once. But this time, Mekong River is connected to Tonle Sap which it makes a wonderful experience. I’ve always wanted to go to Tonle Sap because I learnt about their history way back then in secondary school. The tour boat costs 100USdollar for the whole boat! There are only 6 of us there. If you want to try experiencing Tonle Sap, you can try Sok Chamroeun Tour Boat. Highly recommended!

The Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach) is an iconic 20-meter tall reddish-brown sandstone tower located in the heart of Phnom Penh. Built in 1958, it commemorates Cambodia's independence from French colonial rule in 1953 and honors the country's fallen heroes. The tower is shaped like a blooming lotus bud, a symbol of purity and awakening in Khmer culture.Coolest roundabout I’ve seen.

Wat Phnom is a landmark building in Phnom Penh and a place where locals pray. At the entrance of the temple, there is the same strong smell of incense smoke and the same devout believers kneeling in worship. What is different from the scenery in China is that there are vendors selling lotus flowers for worship. Clusters of beautiful lotus flowers are about to bloom.

Only stopped for about 20 mins. Definitely recommend staying longer. Outer structure is amazing and great historical artifacts inside. $10 USD Entrance fee for foreign adult guests. Cheaper for ages 17 below, unfortunately forgot the actual fee😂Stopped by the museum before heading to the Royal Palace. But I recommend doing the other way aroubd. Head to The Royal Palace then move to the Museum, afterwards, there's a cafe in the vicinity if you'd fancy some snacks/coffee.
