The hot white sand made a crackling sound when I stepped on it, and the waves filled my swimsuit with sand. I went to the night market to eat grilled squid as soon as the stalls were set up, and ate banana pancakes while walking in the smoke and fire. Tiger prawns as big as my palm were lying on the ice at the seafood stall, and they were bright red under the charcoal fire. I didn't care about the prickly shells. When I squatted on the plastic stool to eat the skewers, the sand hurt my teeth, but the pineapple chunks dipped in hot sauce were so sweet that it saved my life. On the way back to the hotel, I carried a half-melted mango smoothie with my hands full of sticky sugar water.
