Guizhou Provincial Museum

4.5/5
479 reviews
The Guizhou Provincial Museum is a comprehensive museum showcasing the history and ethnic culture of Guizhou. The new building, completed and opened in 2017, is a brown rhombus-shaped structure adorned with colorful accents on its exterior, symbolizing "though small as a rhombus stone, it embodies the thousand mountains and islands of Guizhou's culture." The museum features three permanent exhibitions: "Ethnic Guizhou," "Kingdom of Paleontology," and "Historical Guizhou," along with functional areas such as a digital experience hall, intangible cultural heritage theater, and 4D cinema. "Historical Guizhou" unfolds along themes such as the exploration of Guanyin Cave, the traces of Yelang, and the path to provincial establishment: the large number of chipped stone tools unearthed at the Qianxi Guanyin Cave site push back the history of human activity in Guizhou to the early Paleolithic era. The restored scene of "head-covered burials" in Hezhang Kele, the early-known Shizhaishan-type bronze drum of Guizhou, and the weapon molds excavated from the Puan Bronze Drum Mountain site together outline the mysterious bronze culture of Yelang. The Eastern Han bronze chariot and horse unearthed from the Wantu Han tomb in Xingyi is widely recognized as the museum's crown jewel, with the bronze horse raising its head in a neigh and the chariot canopy's bronze as thin as paper. The Ming Dynasty golden phoenix crown excavated from the Yang family chieftain's tomb in Zunyi is inlaid with hundreds of rubies and sapphires, while the sets of glazed pottery figurines in ceremonial procession are equally striking. The "Kingdom of Paleontology" takes visitors back to the oceans of hundreds of millions of years ago in Guizhou: The Guizhouosaurus hui measures only 20-30 cm in length, discovered in Xingyi in 1957, and was the first marine reptile found and named by Chinese scholars. The ichthyosaur and crinoid fossils of the Guanling biota, as well as the Orientognathus from the Panxian biota with its neck accounting for nearly half its body length, are all worth a closer look. "Ethnic Guizhou" highlights the museum's collection: the first floor recreates village scenes with stilt houses and covered bridges, while the second floor showcases ethnic costumes such as Miao ceremonial attire, silver horn headdresses, and Shui horse-tail embroidery baby carriers, with the Miao clothing and silver adornments ranking among the finest in China. The rare Song Dynasty egret-patterned wax-dyed women's outfit unearthed in Pingba and the century-old Qing Dynasty dragon boat collected from the banks of the Qingshui River each carry their own stories. Each of the three exhibitions offers a distinct focus, and a full tour takes you from Guizhou's ancient oceanic past to its present-day multi-ethnic culture, so ample time is recommended for a thorough visit.Guiyang · 19.9 km from Qingzhen

The scenery is nice, but it's very crowded. It's not worth queuing for two hours just to take a boat to that cave, where artificial lights illuminate the rock walls and tell mythological stories. Also, this scenic area is far from the city center; the subway ride there and back takes two hours, so half a day is enough to explore it.

Very fun! Highly recommended. The arrangements were good. A safety briefing was given before the activities began, and hot showers followed – the water pressure was great and comfortable! Some details could be improved, such as the lockers. Is it too much trouble to collect and refund the deposit? Also, the 30 yuan for the "Liberation Shoes" (a type of traditional Chinese shoe) is better included in the total cost; charging 30 yuan on-site is inconvenient. The shower facilities were excellent, and the staff were very friendly!

Definitely worth the experience; the excitement begins the moment you board the inflatable raft and paddle into the canyon. Thrilling and exciting yet extremely safe, the accompanying safety instructors were very professional and responsible. The facilities along the route are thoughtfully designed and impressive. The coffee and hot soup noodles in the cave at the end of the route were a delightful surprise. It would be even better if there were two or three more camera spots along the route. Highly recommended.

I arrived 5 minutes early, and the lecturer, Keju, immediately started and continued until 3:05 PM without a break. He covered everything from ancient Guizhou to Qing Dynasty Guizhou, and the lecture was quite comprehensive. It seemed that Keju really enjoys reading and has a rich knowledge base. He was also quite experienced in interacting with children, and the kids listened with great interest. It was very good.

The oddly shaped stones were quite interesting. There weren't many people during the Chinese New Year, so the experience was good. However, many small shops were closed, and transportation wasn't very convenient. It was rather quiet due to the holiday.

It is divided into four lakes: North, Middle, South and Back. More than 190 islands and peninsulas are scattered in between. It forms a wonderful landscape with water outside the mountains and islands in the lake. There are Miao Village, Dong Village and Buyi Village in the scenic area, with hanging corner buildings, drum towers, wind and rain bridges, stone houses, "climbing the knife mountain and going down the sea of fire", ditch fire, toasting songs, road-blocking wine, long table banquets, ethnic songs and dances and performances. It is now a national 5A scenic spot.

Visiting on a weekday is relatively easy, and there are no lines for any of the attractions. Some popular attractions only have a 3-5 minute wait time, making the experience much better than the crowded weekends and holidays. It's recommended to bring some basic food and a raincoat (for water activities), as the park is quite expensive.

Located at No. 187 Zaoshan Road, Yunyan District, Guiyang City, only 1.5 kilometers from the city center, the park was established in 1957 and is a national 4A-level scenic spot. Admission is free (reservations required), Hongfu Temple incense and flower tickets cost 2 yuan, and cable car/zoo services are charged separately. It integrates mountains, forests, springs, lakes, caves, temples, and monkeys, and is known for its "premium location in the city, beautiful in nature." 🌟Highlights & Must-Visit Spots 1. Wild Macaque Troops: A rare semi-wild urban macaque troop (over a thousand individuals) concentrated around the Jiuqu Path and Hongfu Temple. Great for photos, but please do not feed them and keep an eye on your belongings. 2. Hongfu Temple + Jiuqu Path: Guizhou's first temple (during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty). Climb the 383 stone steps of the Jiuqu Path, accompanied by cliff carvings and ancient pavilions; the temple features ancient Buddha caves and Buddhist scriptures, and is a popular place of worship. 3. Qilin Cave: A karst cave where Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng were once under house arrest; it combines natural scenery with revolutionary history. 4. Qianling Lake + Kanzhu Pavilion: The lake is wide enough for boating; Kanzhu Pavilion on Daluo Ridge offers panoramic views of Guiyang city, with stunning sunsets. Visitors can hike or take a cable car up the mountain. 5. Zoo/Panda House: A long-established city zoo with a South China tiger breeding base, suitable for family-friendly educational activities; high vegetation coverage and abundant negative oxygen ions.

The Gui'an Cherry Blossom Garden lives up to its reputation as "the most beautiful cherry blossom garden on the blue planet." 700,000 cherry trees are in full bloom across 24,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of land. The vibrant sea of pink and white blossoms, set against the backdrop of emerald green tea fields and sparkling lakes, creates a breathtaking spring scene. Strolling through it feels like stepping into a dreamlike fairytale.

The park is quite large, with a wide variety of attractions. I guess not many people know about it, so there are relatively few visitors. There's no queue for each attraction; the staff will help anyone who wants to try it, whether it's just one or two people, start it. This is a great touch. The staff were friendly and patient with reminders, even with relatively few people. A great place to take the kids out, highly recommended.
