Shenxianju

Shenxianju is nestled among the mountains of Xianju, Zhejiang, as a typical area of volcanic rhyolite landform. The rock masses left by ancient volcanic activity have been shaped by long-term weathering and erosion, forming clusters of peculiar peaks, deep valleys and cliffs, where every mountain, stream, rock and peak boasts its unique charm. Pan Lei, a scholar of the Hanlin Academy in the Qing dynasty, remarked after his visit, "Tiantai is serene and Yandang is precipitous, yet Xianju possesses both." This comment precisely captures the essence of this place, which combines the strengths of two renowned mountains. The signature photo spot in the attraction is Ruyi bridge—modeled after a traditional jade ruyi scepter, this two-tiered bridge with partial glass decking spans a deep gorge, creating a cloud-walking illusion on foggy days. Suspended bridges like Wolong bridge, Yuanmeng bridge, and Hongmeng bridge connect with viewing platforms along the way, forming a scenic loop between cliff walls. Nantian summit is a cantilevered glass platform overlooking mountain peaks; the lotus terrace near Foying Lianyun faces Guanyin peak, where rising mist makes visitors appear to stand amid clouds—a popular photography location. The Guanyin peak, resembling the Buddhist deity, serves as the attraction's icon, visible head-on when taking the cable car up from the south gate. Ancient tadpole-shaped inscriptions called "tadpole celestial script" on cliff walls remain undeciphered, adding mystery to the landscape. The attraction has two entrances and exits, south and north, connected by the Nantian and Beihai cableways respectively. An escalator named Nantian ladder is also built on the south gate side, allowing travelers to reach the ridge directly via cableway and escalator without climbing, and then take a gentle tour along the cliffside walkway. Many travelers choose to enter from the south gate and exit from the north gate, as the downhill route is more effortless. It takes about half a day to visit the main attractions. In early summer during the rainy season, the waterfalls are abundant and the mountain is cool. In winter when the temperature is low enough, the flying waterfall freezes into ice falls hanging in front of the cliff, each offering unique views. The outdoor sports area built along the cliff also features activities such as via ferrata climbing. Travelers who want to combine sightseeing and sports can give it a try.Xianju · 22 km from downtown

Guoqing Scenic Area

The Guoqing scenic area is located at the southern foot of Tiantai Mountain, surrounded by five peaks and flanked by two winding streams. It is the birthplace of the Tiantai school, a major Buddhist sect in China, and serves as the ancestral temple for Tiantai Buddhism in Korea, Japan, and around the world. The Guoqing scenic area was constructed in 598 AD during the Sui Dynasty under the supervision of Sima Wang Hong, based on the blueprint personally drawn by Master Zhiyi. The initial temple complex, named "Tiantai Temple," was completed in 601 AD. In 605 AD, Emperor Yang of Sui renamed it "Guoqing Temple" after a prophecy came true, personally inscribing the temple's name in seal script. During the Tang Dynasty, it was renowned as one of the "Four Great Temples of China," alongside Lingyan Temple in Qizhou, Qixia Temple in Runzhou, and Yuquan Temple in Jingzhou. Rebuilt in 851 AD, calligrapher Liu Gongquan wrote the plaque "Great China Guoqing Temple." In 1005 AD, Emperor Zhenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty funded major renovations and renamed it "Jingde Guoqing Temple." In 1130 AD, it was converted to a Chan (Zen) Buddhist temple and became one of the "Five Mountains and Ten Temples" of Chan Buddhism. The current main structures date back to the 1734 renovation during the Qing Dynasty. During the Cultural Revolution, the temple's statues and ritual objects suffered severe damage. In 1973, the State Council allocated significant funds for comprehensive restoration, reopening it to the public. Covering 72,000 square meters with a built-up area of 28,000 square meters, the temple complex features five main axes, comprising over 800 halls and rooms in a grand architectural layout. It is now listed as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.Tiantai County · 4.8 km from downtown

Xiaoruo Village

Xiaoruo Village

Xiaoruo Village was originally a small island in the East China Sea. After a dam was built to connect it to the mainland, it gradually evolved into the small fishing village surrounded by the blue sea that you see today. The stone houses in the village are built in layers along the hillside. The walls, constructed from stacked stones, were originally an architectural technique used by fishermen to withstand coastal humidity and typhoons. Later, the exterior walls were painted, with colors like pink, yellow, orange, and blue spreading across the slopes to create the village's distinctive, colorful appearance. The village's alleys are narrow and steep, with colorful steps and wall graffiti serving as popular photo spots. Follow the stone steps to the viewing platform for an overlook of the colorful houses and the fishing boats in the harbor. In the evening, the soft light and the gradually illuminating colorful houses make it perfect for photography and strolling. You can also climb the nearby Qilin Mountain viewing platform to enjoy a panoramic view of the village. The village's preserved Tianhou Temple also reflects its fishing village character, while seafood noodles and small seafood dishes showcase local flavors. Overall, the village retains a landscape where stone houses, the fishing port, and traditional fishing village life are intertwined.Wenling · 23.7 km from downtown

The attractions are fantastic. The cable car ride up and down is painless, but the journey is extremely long (southbound). I didn't go to the South Peak because I'm afraid of heights, but there were still surprises later on. All the bridges are openwork; the lower half of the Ruyi Bridge is glass—just looking at it made my legs weak! Then there's the Qingyun Ladder—wow, it scared me, but everyone else loved it. There are places to eat almost everywhere you get tired: Chaji, KFC, and Gu Ming are at different rest stops. If you have enough time, I recommend going southbound, as it covers 80% of the must-see attractions.

Changyu Caves are an excellent summer retreat, offering natural coolness without the need for air conditioning. The massive caves are masterpieces of nature, with unique play of light and shadow. A stroll through them is refreshing and pleasant, with unique scenery and not too crowded, making it a perfect summer outing and a rare natural karst cave paradise.

Tiantai Mountain Scenic Area is a combined scenic area consisting of Tiantai Mountain Waterfall Scenic Area and Qiongtan Xiangu Scenic Area, connected by a glass bridge (Guoqing Temple Scenic Area and Shiliang Scenic Area are in two other directions). If you want a less strenuous visit but want to see both the Waterfall Scenic Area and Qiongtan Xiangu, you can take a bus from the visitor center to Qiongtan Xiangu (buses depart every half hour on the hour). Then, enter from the main gate of Qiongtan Xiangu and walk up to the Heavenly Ladder (this section is flat with few steps and can be completed in half an hour). Then, take the Heavenly Ladder to the highest peak of Tiantai Mountain, which is the location of the glass bridge connecting the two scenic areas. After crossing the glass bridge, you'll find the entrance to the Waterfall Scenic Area on the mountain. The path to the exit of the Waterfall Scenic Area is all downhill (it also takes about an hour and a half to walk). If you only want to visit the Waterfall Scenic Area and don't want to climb the mountain, you can take a bus directly from the visitor center to the entrance of the Waterfall Scenic Area at the glass bridge (be sure to ask the staff at the visitor center where to take the bus, as I didn't see any signs and only realized there was a direct bus up and down the mountain when I arrived at the glass bridge). Entering the scenic area from here and walking towards the exit of the Great Waterfall is the most energy-efficient way to see all the scenery of the Great Waterfall area. It's unacceptable that such a well-developed scenic area as Tiantai Mountain has so few signs indicating how to navigate it, and several staff members I asked along the way didn't know either.

Climbing the ancient city wall of Linhai offers stunning views! The city wall winds along the mountainside, overlooking the blue waters of Donghu Lake, the ancient city houses, and the distant mountains of Lingjiang. Every step reveals a new scene, where mountains, water, and ancient city blend seamlessly, creating a soothing and relaxing Jiangnan landscape.

The Taizhou City Wall is quite fun. You can climb the stairs, walk along the wall, and look at the distant mountains. I even happened to run into a movie crew filming on the wall and saw the style of the modern Eighth Route Army.

This waterfall, with its relatively large drop, is quite rare and worth seeing. The mist spraying from below is very refreshing, and the thunderous sound is quite impressive. Don't miss the boardwalk along the mountain behind the waterfall area.

A specially booked 2-hour in-depth guided tour was well worth the wait. The guide, deeply knowledgeable about the thousand-year-old cultural heritage of Guoqing Temple, eloquently recounted the temple's founding by Master Zhiyi and the aesthetic beauty of its ancient architecture, brick by brick. The two-hour tour allowed for a leisurely walk through the entire temple grounds, away from the crowds, offering a tranquil and immersive experience. Shedding the superficiality of a rushed tour, the guide helped participants understand the profound meaning of "If the temple is established, the country will be at peace." The gentle and unhurried explanation provided a healing and Zen-like journey, highly recommended.

Taizhou Fantawild is an animation and science fiction theme park, offering attractions that cater to both thrills and family-friendly activities, making it ideal for short trips within the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai area. Its signature attraction, "Flying," features a stunning dome screen and an immersive, aerial flying experience that's definitely worth checking out. "City of Warriors" offers highly interactive 4D racing experiences, while those seeking a more adrenaline-pumping experience can challenge themselves with the "Heroes of the World" roller coaster. The park is divided into several themed areas with exquisite scenery, lively parades, and a vibrant nighttime atmosphere. Many attractions are indoors, offering shelter from the sun and rain. However, during holidays, popular attractions may have long queues, and food prices within the park tend to be high. With attractions suitable for all ages, it offers a rich and enjoyable experience for the whole family; a full day is recommended for a leisurely visit.

Xiaoruo Village is located in Shitang Town, Wenling City, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is a small fishing village on the sea full of romance and is known as China's "Five Fishing Villages". 🏷️• Transportation: It is recommended to drive there.
