Teatro Colón

82 reviews
Teatro Colón, located right next to the wide Av. 9 de Julio, is an eclectic-style opera house with an exterior that blends Italian, French, and German architectural elements. The theater opened in 1908 with a performance of Verdi's opera "Aida" and has since hosted numerous singers and conductors. Acoustics expert Leo Beranek once surveyed international opera and orchestra conductors, and the results showed that its main auditorium ranks among the best in the world for opera acoustics, where even a whisper on stage can be clearly heard in the upper balconies. The horseshoe-shaped main auditorium is lined with deep red velvet, features a large crystal chandelier hanging in the center, and has a dome painted with exquisite murals. The Golden Hall, inspired by the grand foyer of the Palais Garnier, uses gold finishes, mirrors, and crystal chandeliers to create a luxurious atmosphere and is now used for chamber music and receptions. The stained-glass dome refracts colorful light when illuminated. The theater also houses costume rooms, scenery workshops, and rehearsal spaces in the basement, allowing the entire production system to be completed in-house, which is rare for opera houses. After extensive renovations in 2010, the theater restored its former glory.Buenos Aires · 26.6 km from Tigre

Recoleta Cemetery, established in 1822, is a famous open-air mausoleum complex in Buenos Aires. The entire cemetery is planned with a city block layout, where wide, tree-lined main avenues branch off into narrow alleys, lined on both sides with approx. 7,000 above-ground mausoleums. Walking inside feels like navigating a labyrinthine miniature city. It brings together marble mausoleums of various architectural styles, including Neo-Gothic, Baroque, Art Deco, and Art Nouveau. Many mausoleums are adorned with exquisite statues and reliefs, and the marble and decorative materials used in their construction were mostly imported from Paris and Milan. The cemetery is the final resting place for many prominent Argentine military and political figures, as well as Nobel laureates. Among them, the tomb of Eva Perón is particularly notable. It is located deep in a narrow alley, and visitors often come specifically to pay their respects. In addition, works by renowned Argentine sculptor Lola Mora are also located here, and the uniquely designed tomb of Liliana Crociati stands out for its distinctive style.Buenos Aires · 24.9 km from Tigre

The obelisk

The obelisk stands in the Plaza de la República and is one of the city's iconic landmarks. In 1936, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Buenos Aires, Argentine modernist architect Alberto Prebisch designed this monument, using the Luxor Obelisk in Egypt as a prototype. The monument is approx. 67.5 m high, features a reinforced concrete structure, and is clad in white stone from Cordoba, with geometric lines throughout. The site it occupies has a unique historical background—it was once the location of the Church of St. Nicholas, where the Argentine flag was first raised in Buenos Aires. Inside the monument, there is a 206-step staircase leading to windows on all four sides at the top. Its surroundings are also a hub of urban vitality: the Avenida 9 de Julio is known for its width, Corrientes Avenue brings together numerous theaters and restaurants, and multiple subway lines intersect underground. Whether it is citizens celebrating after a sports victory, or street art and public gatherings, this place has always been a central point where people spontaneously gather.Buenos Aires · 26.9 km from Tigre

Barrio Chino is located in the Belgrano district of the capital and is one of the core gathering places for the Chinese community in Argentina. It formed spontaneously through the settlement and business operations of Asian immigrants, and today it extends to both sides with Arribeños Street as its axis. It is adjacent to the train station and offers convenient transportation. The iconic Chinese-style archway at the entrance features marble pillars adorned with stone lion carvings, and the "Chinatown" inscription on the lintel is very eye-catching. The core section within the archway has been designated as a pedestrian street, where Asian restaurants and supermarkets are densely distributed across just a few short streets. In addition, a Buddhist temple is located here. The shelves of the Chinese supermarkets are stocked with Asian ingredients, and with options ranging from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine to Thai food, the variety of flavors is quite rich.Buenos Aires · 18.8 km from Tigre

Plaza de Mayo

Plaza de Mayo is the main square of Buenos Aires, with a history dating back to the city's founding by the Spanish in 1580. The square was formerly the colonial-era Plaza de la Victoria and Plaza del Fuerte. In 1884, the colonnade separating the two squares was demolished, and they were merged and officially named after the May Revolution of 1810—a revolution that took place on May 25 and marked the beginning of Argentina's path to independence from Spanish colonial rule. In the center of the square stands the Pirámide de Mayo, built in 1811 to commemorate the first anniversary of the May Revolution. It is surrounded by several iconic buildings: the pink Casa Rosada at the east end, and the colonial-era Cabildo at the west end, which is now a museum displaying historical artifacts from the May Revolution; to the north is theBuenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral. These buildings, with their diverse yet harmonious architectural styles, make the square feel like an open-air history museum.Buenos Aires · 27.9 km from Tigre

La Boca

La Boca is an old neighborhood next to the port of Buenos Aires. In the late 19th century, large numbers of Italian and Spanish immigrants settled here, making a living as port stevedores and shipbuilders. They used leftover ship paint to paint their corrugated iron shacks, accidentally creating the colorful street view seen today. The heart of the neighborhood is a pedestrian street called Caminito, which has been turned into an open-air museum. The high-saturation colored houses on both sides are clustered, and the walls are covered with murals and reliefs by local artists. Tango dancers often perform impromptu shows along the street. La Boca is considered one of the important birthplaces of tango, and the name of Caminito itself is taken from a tango song of the same name. The neighborhood also carries a rich football culture. The home stadium ofArgentine football club Boca Juniors, Estadio Alberto J Armando, is nearby, where Maradona once played wearing the blue and gold jersey. A team museum is located next to the stadium, displaying collections such as trophies and jerseys from over the years.Buenos Aires · 30.6 km from Tigre

Parque Tres de Febrero

Parque Tres de Febrero is located in the Palermo district in the north of Buenos Aires and is one of the city's main urban green spaces, where artificial lakes, lawns, and stretches of tree-lined avenues are interwoven across hundreds of hectares. Over 10,000 roses spread along the artificial lake, and a small white bridge spans the water, known to locals as the Lovers' Bridge; the Andalusian Patio, a gift from Seville, is decorated with glazed tiles and features a vine-covered pergola, exuding a strong Spanish flair. You can pedal a paddle boat slowly on the lake, and birds such as herons and parrots are often seen by the lakeside, attracting enthusiasts who often visit specifically for them. The Garden of the Poets contains statues of writers such as Shakespeare and Alfonsina Storni, and the Sarmiento Monument by Rodin is also located there. The silver-domed Galileo Galilei Planetarium is supported by 3 arches, looking like a planet that has landed on the lawn. The tree-lined avenues surrounding the park are daily routes for locals to jog and cycle, and on weekends, families can be seen everywhere on the lawns, spreading out picnic blankets and drinking mate.Buenos Aires · 22 km from Tigre

We purchased the option for the VIP only show which gave us great seats and what seemed to be unlimited drinks, plus a couple of bites to eat. The show was centrally located which meant we could walk to and from our hotel, saving time on transportation. The show was well choreographed and had some excellent dancers. The passion, athleticism and skill of the dancers was evident throughout the show. It was a very well choreographed dance but also a fantastic show and definitely a must see while in Buenos Aires.

Recoleta Cemetery is one of the most prominent attractions in downtown Buenos Aires. It is the final resting place of many political figures, historical heroes, and business tycoons. The tombs, each with its own unique style, resemble a European architectural exhibition. The cemetery also contains numerous sculptures erected by the families of the deceased, evoking a sense of remembrance and mourning. Respect for death is a unique aspect of Argentine culture; they believe that only at the end of life can a person truly and completely reveal the meaning and value of their existence. The tomb of Eva Perón, the revered First Lady of Argentina, is located at number C7-88. This is arguably the most prominent spot in the entire cemetery. Although its location, scale, and appearance are not particularly special, and it can even be a little difficult to find without asking staff, it attracts a constant stream of visitors every day, demonstrating its enduring appeal.

Although there is a memorial archway, Chinatown is not very large. There are just a few restaurants, and even fewer of them serve Chinese cuisine. Most of them serve modified Argentinian cuisine.

La Boca is a very vibrant and colorful area in Buenos Aires. it is an area with colorful houses, shops and restaurants. be sure to go during the day and do not wear fancy clothing or jewelries and not to cross over to Baraccas due to safety reason. otherwise it is a nice stroll and walk through city.
