Xiaozhuang Manor Cultural Tourism Zone, located in Horqin Zuoyizhongqi, Tongliao City, takes Prince Darhan's Mansion, the former residence of Empress Borzijit of Xiaozhuangwen in Qing Dynasty (the grandmother of Emperor Kangxi) as the core attraction. It consists of more than a dozen scenic spots, such as the Gadamelin Memorial Hall, Darhan Barracks, Baita Temple, Bailong Lake, Horqin and the Oath of Houjinmeng. Here, tourists can learn more about the life of the mother of the Qing Dynasty and her little-known story. The core attraction of Xiaozhuang Manor, "the former residence of Xiaozhuang - Prince Darhan's Mansion", was built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years. This is the birthplace of Queen Wen of Xiaozhuang. Emperor Kangxi visited Horqin three times in his life to pay homage to his grandmother, and feasted all Mongolian villagers here, and wrote the famous poem "To Horqin Department and All Mongolian Banquets". The original palace was completely destroyed during the land reform in the last century. The palace that tourists see today was rebuilt in 2008. The entire building is made of blue bricks, gray tiles and wood, using ancient grinding bricks with seams, painting, gold sticking, and ground poles. and other traditional crafts. The palace adopts a traditional central axis-symmetric architectural style. When tourists are playing, they can walk forward along the axis. If you want to know more historical facts and the stories behind, you can also hire an interpreter. Reference fee: 100 yuan/batch (within 10 people).Horqin Left Middle Banner · >100 km from downtown

Horqin Grassland

Horqin Grassland is not a single enclosed scenic area, but a vast grassland stretching across the eastern part of Inner Mongolia. It mainly covers Tongliao and Hinggan League, bordering Hulunbuir Grassland to the north and Xilin Gol to the west, and is located at the northwest end of the Songliao Plain. "Horqin" comes from the Mongolian language, meaning "archer," and is named after the Horqin tribe that has lived and herded here for generations. This is also the place of birth of Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang of the Qing Dynasty (grandmother of Emperor Kangxi) and the hometown of the national hero Gada Meilin. The Andai dance and Horqin folk songs, which originated in the Hure Banner area, are still sung on the grassland today. Unlike endless pure meadows, the charm of Horqin lies in the interlacing of grasslands, sandy lands, sparse forests, and rivers. The Horqin Sandy Land, one of the four major sandy lands in China, is embedded among the pastures, with oases and sand dunes appearing alternately. The Zhurihe Grassland on the Tongliao side is located in the hinterland, where herds of horses and sheep are scattered under the blue sky and white clouds. You can ride Mongolian horses, stay in yurts, and at night, gather around a bonfire to drink mare's milk wine and eat roasted whole lamb, living a day of authentic nomadic life. Daqinggou in Horqin Left Rear Banner is a green, deep gully stretching over 20 km in the sandy land, where spring water at the bottom of the gully gathers into clear streams; you can hike along the forest paths to Sanchakou and Xiaoqing Lake. Heading north into Hinggan League, the Greater Khingan Range forest area has patches of larch, and historical sites such as the Genghis Khan Temple in Ulanhot and the Senggelinqin Prince Mansion (Bo Prince Mansion) in Horqin Left Rear Banner are also scattered along this route. This grassland consists of multiple scattered pastures and tourist spots that are far apart from each other. Public transportation is limited, so visitors from other places often use Tongliao or Ulanhot as a hub and then take a car charter to various locations. Summer is the season when the water and grass are lush, making it the perfect time for horseback riding, watching horse racing, and attending bonfire parties. The temperature difference between day and night on the grassland is large, so it is advisable to bring a jacket even when traveling in midsummer.Horqin Left Rear Banner · 20 km from downtown

Khan Mountain is located at the foot of Guanyin Mountain in Huolinguole City. It is a mountain sculpture scenic area themed around Mongol-Yuan culture, and the entire mountain is planned as a scroll of grassland history that you can read as you walk. From bottom to top, the scenic area consists of the mountain gate, The Road of the Blue Wolf, the Mongol-Yuan army formation, and the Mongol-Yuan emperor sculpture group. Not far from the entrance, statues of the Blue Wolf and the White Deer greet visitors first, which, according to legend, are the ancestors of the Mongol people; statues of historical figures from the Golden Family line both sides of The Road of the Blue Wolf, leading all the way to the foot of the mountain. Hundreds of warrior statues are arrayed at the foot of the mountain with an imposing presence reminiscent of the Terracotta Warriors, making it an iconic scene of the entire scenic area. Walking slowly up the plank road, the view gradually opens up, and more than 10 statues of Mongol-Yuan emperors are scattered along the mountainside. Upon reaching the summit, giant statues of Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan stand side by side, reaching tens of meters in height. They can be seen from afar and are even more awe-inspiring when viewed from below. From the summit, you can overlook the rolling green waves of the surrounding grassland, and taking photos with the sculpture group in the frame makes for excellent pictures. On the grassland around the scenic area, there are often experience activities such as horseback riding, archery, and taking photos in Mongolian robes, which interested visitors can try while they are there.Holingol · 9.9 km from downtown

Worth going, beautiful. I can't miss it, haha. The blue sky and white clouds are indeed beautiful, and the desert is beautiful. The service is also good. You can't see such a blue sky and such beautiful scenery in the city. The off-road racing is so exciting that I feel like I'm going to fly to the sky, hahaha. The sand sliding is indeed enough for three or five times, and it's too tiring to climb up haha. Summary: The sand is really fine and the scenery is really beautiful

While the buildings are mostly reconstructed, it's still quite enjoyable to visit, especially with kids. It took us almost three hours to see everything. The Korqin wool felt products were quite interesting, and I bought my child a hat. The jade workshop in the back made realistic dishes from various stones, which made us hungry. One of the young craftsmen is hearing-impaired and has no upper limbs. When we walked by, he was carving with his feet, which was truly awe-inspiring.

Khan Mountain is 11 kilometers away from the city of Holingol. It was built in 2011, covers an area of more than 13,000 square meters, and the sculpture height is 50 meters. It is the largest sculpture group of figures in my country, with an investment of 55 million yuan. The head of Genghis Khan on the top of the mountain is 50 meters high, and the head of Kublai Khan is 30 meters high. The 800 sculptures of the Mongolian soldiers are lifelike and majestic, very spectacular and shocking. The three characters "Khan Mountain" on the mountain gate were written by Buhe, the former vice chairman of the National People's Congress. Looking up at the tall image on the top of the mountain, I think of Chairman Mao's poem: Genghis Khan, a great hero, just bends his bow and shoots an eagle.

Located in the center of Kulun town, there is free parking in front of the temple. It's a very quiet ancient temple with minimal commercial activity. It's a good idea to do some research online before visiting, or hire a guided tour; having some prior knowledge will make the visit much more enjoyable.

After a day of city exploration, dragging myself back to Antu Manxi, exhausted, I truly understood what a healing haven on a journey feels like. The most delightful surprise of this trip to Tongliao was choosing the right hotel. Having seen countless generic, minimalist business-style hotels, this one's British retro ambiance was truly captivating. Stepping into the lobby, the hustle and bustle of the surrounding commercial district instantly disappeared. Warm, vintage lighting gently bathed the room, complemented by tasteful soft furnishings and artistic paintings, with exquisite trinkets scattered throughout. There was no overly flashy, trendy embellishment; instead, it was serene and gentle, like stepping into a low-key British private residence deep within the city. Walking through the corridors, the soft light and shadows on the wall decorations helped my tense nerves relax after a long day. The impeccable service was a huge plus. The staff were gentle and polite, never overly enthusiastic or intimidating, yet always quick and appropriate to address any needs. The front desk staff were efficient and quick during check-in, clearly explaining the usage guidelines for the underground parking, gym, and laundry room. They also generously shared recommendations for local favorites and eateries. The communication was relaxed and natural, without any mechanical pleasantries. After check-in, any minor issues were quickly resolved with a single phone call. In an unfamiliar city, this reassuring approach was incredibly comforting. Stepping into the guest room, a rich British vintage atmosphere greeted me. Vintage floor lamps, flowing fabric curtains, and artistic artwork on the walls created a warm and sophisticated color scheme. The room was spacious and bright, with excellent natural light, making it feel open and airy. The cleanliness was impeccable. Tables, windowsills, and even the nooks and crannies of the bathroom were spotless. The air was fresh and free of any unpleasant odors. The bedding was soft and supple, and the mattress was perfectly firm. After a long day of walking, lying down on the bed allowed all the aches and pains to slowly disappear. Beneath its retro exterior, the hotel boasts a full suite of modern smart features. Smart lighting and electric curtains are easy to operate, striking a perfect balance between retro aesthetics and modern comfort. Located next to a bustling commercial district, the hotel enjoys a vibrant atmosphere downstairs, but the soundproofing in the rooms is excellent. Closing the door completely shuts out the outside noise, ensuring a restful night's sleep. Housekeeping is exceptionally meticulous, with daily visits ensuring your belongings are neatly organized and that drinking water and toiletries are replenished proactively. Many details don't require specific reminders. The amenities are also comprehensive: a clean self-service laundry room makes changing clothes a breeze; the gym is fully equipped, allowing you to exercise in your spare time; the underground parking is ample, making it easy to get there by car; and the lobby offers complimentary tea, a perfect place to relax after shopping. It's suitable for both leisurely travel and business trips. The breakfast area continues this British elegance in a quiet and pleasant environment. The food selection is extensive, with a full range of Chinese and Western dishes, including hot dishes, porridge, pastries, fruits, and drinks, incorporating many local specialties. The ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are authentic. Enjoy a leisurely and hearty breakfast in the morning, and you'll be full of energy for the whole day. The location is superb, right next to a shopping district, making dining, shopping, and leisure incredibly convenient. Step outside to embrace the vibrant local life, and return to the hotel to enjoy tranquility and peace. Having traveled to many places and stayed in countless hotels, it's rare to find one that balances atmosphere, cleanliness, and service so perfectly.

Overall, it's pretty good value for money. The package that includes camel riding and a two-person ATV ride is quite reasonable. My child was very happy playing in the sand and on the swings… Since it was a bit crowded during the May Day holiday, we'll try the night session next time…

Tongliao Museum currently has two exhibition areas open, the first and second exhibition halls! With time as the axis, from the Stone Age to the late Qing Dynasty, it shows the changes in regional life and culture! Looking at these objects, I feel like I have traveled through time!
