Château Comtal is located in Carcassonne, Occitanie, France, and serves as one of the core structures of the city's medieval castle defense system. The castle was initially built by the Trencavel family in the 12th century. Later, as the city became a royal domain, defensive facilities were gradually added, and a more complete castle layout was formed in the 13th century. The structure consists of palaces, towers, walls, and defensive fortifications, with its thick stone construction reflecting the characteristics of medieval military architecture. The interior of the castle preserves courtyards, historical architectural spaces, and collections of stone carvings. Upon climbing the walls and towers, you can observe the castle's interior and the surrounding city view from an elevated vantage point. In the 19th century, architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc led a large-scale restoration of the Carcassonne defense system, restoring the ancient castle to its distinct medieval appearance. In 1997, the Castle and Walls of Carcassonne were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Historic Fortified City of Carcassonne.Carcassonne · 6.8 km from Trebes

I had an excellent walk around the castle, and enjoyed reading all the info boards. It is an amazingly well restored castle. Inwould have liked to have seen some rooms that were made up to look like the medieval times.

The South Grand Canal is also a very important transportation hub in this city. The canal here was also dug out based on natural features, and it has a wide range of transportation options. It is rarely used now, and these places can also be visited.

Must book tickets a month in advance. Overall experience was great, but I feel it is a bit expensive. Once inside, there were a lot of people and everyone was so loud. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The visit was very well organized as well. Worth the visit if you are into it, but expect big crowds.
