Ajanta is famous for its Buddhist caves, paintings and sculptures. The complex contains 30 rock-cut caves, created mainly between the 2nd century BCE and 5th–6th centuries CE.
The highlight is the beautifully preserved Buddhist murals, depicting the life of Buddha and stories from the Jataka tales.
