Genting Highlands – A Magical Journey Above the Clouds
Perched high in the Titiwangsa Mountains of Malaysia, Genting Highlands is one of the country’s most famous mountain destinations, offering breathtaking scenery, cool mountain air, lush green forests, and unforgettable experiences above the clouds.
Our journey to Genting Highlands was a beautiful experience filled with spectacular landscapes and the unique charm of Malaysia’s highlands. As we climbed higher into the mountains, the atmosphere gradually changed—the warm tropical weather gave way to a refreshing cool breeze, while magnificent hills and clouds created a truly magical setting.
A Glimpse into History
Genting Highlands was founded in the 1960s by Malaysian entrepreneur Lim Goh Tong, who envisioned creating a mountain resort that would become a major tourism destination. Despite the challenging mountainous terrain and dense rainforest, development began in the early 1960s.
The first hotel and resort facilities opened in 1971, marking the beginning of Genting Highlands as a major tourist destination. Over the decades, the area developed into a large integrated resort featuring hotels, entertainment, restaurants, shopping, attractions, and spectacular cable-car journeys through the mountains.
Today, Genting Highlands has become an important part of Malaysia’s tourism landscape and attracts visitors from Malaysia and around the world.
Nature and Mountain Beauty
One of the greatest attractions of Genting Highlands is its natural environment. Located at an elevation of around 1,800 metres above sea level, the area enjoys a significantly cooler climate than Malaysia’s lowlands.
The surrounding Titiwangsa mountain range is covered with tropical vegetation and rainforest, creating a beautiful contrast between modern development and the natural landscape. On clear days, visitors can enjoy magnificent panoramic views stretching across the surrounding mountains and valleys.
The famous cable-car journey is also an unforgettable part of the Genting experience, allowing visitors to admire the forest-covered mountains from above.
Culture and Malaysian Heritage
Genting Highlands reflects the multicultural character of Malaysia. Visitors can experience influences from Malay, Chinese, Indian, and other communities through food, architecture, festivals, hospitality, and everyday life.
The surrounding region is also connected to Malaysia’s rich mountain and rainforest heritage. The Titiwangsa Range is an important geographical feature of Peninsular Malaysia and forms part of the country’s beautiful natural landscape.
A Modern Mountain Destination
Today, Genting Highlands combines nature, entertainment, hospitality, shopping, dining, and family attractions in one spectacular mountain destination. Modern architecture rises among the clouds, while the surrounding forests and mountains preserve the feeling of being far above the busy cities below.
For travellers, Genting Highlands is more than just a resort—it is a place where Malaysia’s natural beauty, modern tourism, multicultural heritage, and adventurous spirit come together.
Our Travel Memory
Our visit to Genting Highlands was not simply a journey to a famous tourist destination; it was an opportunity to experience the beauty of Malaysia from a different perspective. The mountains, clouds, cool breeze, green forests, and spectacular views made the journey truly memorable.
Genting Highlands will always remain a special destination for travellers seeking a combination of nature, adventure, relaxation, culture, and unforgettable mountain scenery.
Genting Highlands — where the mountains meet the clouds and every journey becomes a beautiful memory.
