It's true that Hershey, PA smells like chocolate. But the exhibits at Chocolate World were not all that great. I don't think you miss much by not taking the tour. Just head for the gift shop and buy up some sweets. If you paid more, you could do extra things like make custom candies, but we didn't do that.

I usually spend my vacation leaves in Tokyo or Osaka hunting for anime merchandise, but I decided to do a quick 8-day run of the US East Coast recently. Flew out from Cebu.
If you are planning a multi-city trip covering New York, Philly, and Boston, here is a straightforward evaluation of what is actually worth your time and what you can skip.
Ā· *New York City**
Ā· **The Edge & Hudson Yards:** Overpriced just for a view. If youāve seen skylines in Tokyo or Singapore, this is pretty average.
Ā· **Central Park & Bryant Park:** Central Park is decent for a morning walk to clear your head. Bryant Park's winter market was alright, but extremely crowded and the food was overpriced.
Ā· **The Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art):** This one is actually worth it. It is massive, so wear proper walking shoes. The rebuilt Egyptian temple inside is the highlight.
Ā· *Philadelphia**
Ā· **Penn Museum (UPenn):** As someone who prefers structured, historical exhibits, this was a solid stop. Excellent collection of global artifacts, much quieter and easier to appreciate than the museums in NYC.
Ā· **Independence Hall:** Standard historical landmark. Good if you like history, skip if you don't care about US heritage.
Ā· *Boston & Area**
Ā· **MIT & West Point:** Visited the campuses. MIT was interesting from an engineering perspective, though it's ultimately just a campus. West Point has a very rigid, military atmosphereādecent but nothing spectacular.
Ā· **New England Aquarium:** Skip this. It is quite basic. You can find much better aquariums in Japan or elsewhere in Asia.
Ā· **Quincy Market:** Basically a tourist trap food court. The clam chowder was okay, but nothing to write home about.
Ā· *A few practical tips:**
1. **Data:** Do not rely on international roaming. Buy a local US eSIM before you fly out. Itās cheaper and more reliable.
2. **Payment:** Everyone says the US is cashless, but keep some USD cash on hand. Some smaller vendors and transport services still prefer cash.
3. **Gear:** You will easily log 15,000 to 20,000 steps a day. Do not try to look fashionable; wear solid, supportive walking shoes. Bring a light windbreaker if you are going in October as the wind gets quite cold in Boston.
