Trip Moments in Philadelphia

I usually spend my vacation leaves in Tokyo or Osaka hunting for anime merchandise, but I decided to do a quick 8-day run of the US East Coast recently. Flew out from Cebu.

If you are planning a multi-city trip covering New York, Philly, and Boston, here is a straightforward evaluation of what is actually worth your time and what you can skip.

· *New York City**
· **The Edge & Hudson Yards:** Overpriced just for a view. If you’ve seen skylines in Tokyo or Singapore, this is pretty average.
· **Central Park & Bryant Park:** Central Park is decent for a morning walk to clear your head. Bryant Park's winter market was alright, but extremely crowded and the food was overpriced.
· **The Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art):** This one is actually worth it. It is massive, so wear proper walking shoes. The rebuilt Egyptian temple inside is the highlight.

· *Philadelphia**
· **Penn Museum (UPenn):** As someone who prefers structured, historical exhibits, this was a solid stop. Excellent collection of global artifacts, much quieter and easier to appreciate than the museums in NYC.
· **Independence Hall:** Standard historical landmark. Good if you like history, skip if you don't care about US heritage.

· *Boston & Area**
· **MIT & West Point:** Visited the campuses. MIT was interesting from an engineering perspective, though it's ultimately just a campus. West Point has a very rigid, military atmosphere—decent but nothing spectacular.
· **New England Aquarium:** Skip this. It is quite basic. You can find much better aquariums in Japan or elsewhere in Asia.
· **Quincy Market:** Basically a tourist trap food court. The clam chowder was okay, but nothing to write home about.

· *A few practical tips:**
1. **Data:** Do not rely on international roaming. Buy a local US eSIM before you fly out. It’s cheaper and more reliable.
2. **Payment:** Everyone says the US is cashless, but keep some USD cash on hand. Some smaller vendors and transport services still prefer cash.
3. **Gear:** You will easily log 15,000 to 20,000 steps a day. Do not try to look fashionable; wear solid, supportive walking shoes. Bring a light windbreaker if you are going in October as the wind gets quite cold in Boston.
