    Unstable ground conditions close Bransty Tunnel between Corkickle and Whitehaven

    Period:Monday, December 1, 2025 to Monday, December 1, 2025

    Related Information:During pre-planned engineering work at Bransty Tunnel, between Corkickle and Whitehaven, inspections revealed unstable ground conditions which require urgent repair. As a result, the line through the tunnel is closed. Buses are replacing trains between Corkickle and Whitehaven. Disruption is expected until further notice. A visual disruption map video is available. Customer advice: Service impact Train services are running between Lancaster / Barrow-in-Furness and Corkickle, and also between Whitehaven and Carlisle. Buses will replace trains between Corkickle and Whitehaven. Journey times may be extended by up to 60 minutes whilst travelling by road transport. Ticket acceptance If the train you have a ticket for is cancelled, you can travel on any Northern or TransPennine Express service within two hours before or after your cancelled service was due to depart. This is at no extra cost, and does not require you to amend your ticket.

    Severe weather impacts Conwy Valley and Heart of Wales lines

    Related Information:The Met Office have issued an yellow and amber weather warning for parts of Wales today. As a precaution and for the safety of passengers, services will be suspended on the Conwy Valley and Heart of Wales line. This includes a suspension of train services between: Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Swansea and Shrewsbury. Rail replacement buses will be in operation across these routes.     Signalling system fault impacts routes between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour

    Related Information:A fault with the signalling system between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour means that some lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled in full or revised to terminate at / start back from Portsmouth & Southsea. This is expected until the end of the day. Additional information: Engineers are on site to investigate the fault. Great Western Railway customer advice: Great Western Railway services between Cardiff Central / Bristol Temple Meads / Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour will terminate and start their return journey from Portsmouth & Southsea or Fratton stations. A limited train service will continue to operate between Fratton, Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour stations. South Western Railway customer advice: Train services between Portsmouth Harbour - Portsmouth & Southsea have been suspended. London Waterloo - Portsmouth Harbour via Guildford services will terminate at Portsmouth & Southsea. Portsmouth Harbour - London Waterloo via Guildford services will start at Portsmouth & Southsea. Your ticket can also be used, at no extra cost, on First Bus service 2 between Cosham - Hilsea - Portsmouth stations. South Western Railway are arranging rail replacement buses and also for you to be able to use your ticket at no extra cost with other bus operators between Portsmouth and Havant / Fareham. More information will be provided when this is in place. Because your journey has been heavily disrupted, you can book your own taxi and claim the cost back through the South Western Railway website. This applies to travel between all stations served by South Western Railway. You will need to provide the following details to make a claim: Your full contact details. The time and date of your journey. The stations you travelled to and from. A detailed description of the series of events that took place. Copies of your train ticket/s and taxi receipt. Additional information: If you need any help with your journey, please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point. If you would prefer to use local buses to continue your journey please check Traveline. South Western Railway tickets are not valid on local buses unless stated above. Southern customer advice: Trains which run between London Victoria or Brighton and Portsmouth Harbour will instead run between London Victoria or Brighton and Portsmouth & Southsea until further notice. If you're travelling on this route, please allow an extra 10 minutes to complete your journey as you will need to change trains at Portsmouth & Southsea to travel on this route. Alternative services are still running between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour, and you can use your ticket on any alternative Southern or South Western services to travel between these stations.

    Heavy rain impacts West Coast Main Line services

    Related Information:There are speed restrictions in place along some parts of the West Coast Main Line today because of heavy rain. As a result, Avanti West Coast TransPennine Express will run at reduced speeds, resulting in services being cancelled or delayed on some routes. This is expected to continue until 08:30 on Tuesday 2 December. Advice for Avanti West Coast customers: Avanti West Coast services are running at a reduced speed between Motherwell and Lancaster. This may cause delays of up to 35 minutes to your journey. Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on TransPennine Express services between Glasgow Central and Preston in both directions until further notice. If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after. Advice for TransPennine Express customers: How does this affect my journey? TransPennine Express services on the following routes are subject to delay and short notice cancellations: Services between Glasgow Central and Liverpool Lime Street. Services between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh. What should I do? If the train you have a ticket for is cancelled, You can use your tickets at no extra cost on the following services in both directions: Alternative TransPennine Express services between Carlisle / Lockerbie and Preston.
