We mainly came to Cebu to see whale sharks and sardine run, and stayed in the city for about half a day. Here is my itinerary. Itinerary: Airport ➡️ Lapu-Lapu Monument and Magellan's Marker ➡️ Magellan's Cross ➡️ Basilica del Santo Niño ➡️ Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral 1️⃣ Lapu-Lapu Monument and Magellan's Marker Navigation🧭Lapulapu Monument Free! Super niche! I searched online and found almost no complete guide, only a few simple shares, and no location, so I searched on the map and finally found it. It is located on Mactan Island, and since the airport is also on Mactan Island, it is recommended to take a Grab directly here after getting off the plane, which costs about 38💰, and then take a taxi from here to Magellan's Cross, which costs about 70💰. Magellan was a great man. His fleet completed a circumnavigation of the globe, proving that the earth is round. Note that it was his fleet, because Magellan himself died in a conflict with the locals on Mactan Island and never returned to Spain, and the one who fought against Magellan's fleet was the local tribal chief LapuLapu. During the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, the government built the Magellan's Marker here, and after the Philippines became independent, they erected the LapuLapu statue next to the Magellan's Marker (I don't know if it was to disgust the 🇪🇸 government). Magellan was great, but in the hearts of Filipinos, LapuLapu, who defended the territory and bravely fought against the colonizers, is the real hero. 2️⃣ Magellan's Cross Navigation🧭magellen’s cross Closes at 18:00! Free! It is the size of a pavilion, and when it is open, you can take a close-up photo with Magellan's Cross. After it is closed, because it is an iron fence, you can also put your phone in to take pictures. The lights are on inside, but you can't take a close-up photo. To the south and north of Magellan's Cross are the City Hall and Basilica del Santo Niño, respectively. 3️⃣ Basilica del Santo Niño It is right next to Magellan's Cross, with several guards guarding the gate. Walk through the enter passage, and the Basilica del Santo Niño is on the left. Open until after 8pm, open at 8pm, closed at 9pm. Free! I came here at 5pm and caught a mass, which was very solemn. No photos are allowed in the main hall, but there is a large area outside the main hall, which is also very photogenic. 4️⃣ Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral Free! Opening hours: 9:00–15:30 This church is bigger and more spectacular than the Basilica del Santo Niño, and it is very close to the Basilica del Santo Niño, so you can visit them together. Overall, you can visit almost all of them in about 4 hours.

Must-see: Visit the world’s smallest primate—the tarsier, with its big adorable eyes! Chocolate Hills: Climb the viewing deck to overlook 1,268 cone-shaped hills, resembling an alien landscape and a Harry Potter filming location! Accommodation: Recommended to stay near Alona Beach for easy island hopping the next day. DAY 4️⃣: Bohol island hopping tour What to do: This is the highlight of the trip! Dolphin watching: Set off early to chase wild dolphins at sea. Balicasag Wall snorkeling: Dive along the underwater cliff, enjoy stunning coral gardens, and spot sea turtles everywhere! Virgin Island: Step onto this pure white crescent-shaped sandbar, feeling like floating on the sea. Dinner: Alona Beach has plenty of seafood restaurants where you can pick fresh catch and have it cooked on the spot—feast to your heart’s content! DAY 5️⃣: Leisurely return, fully satisfied What to do: Enjoy the last sunshine at Alona Beach in the morning, then fly home from Bohol airport or take a ferry back to Cebu for your transfer. My days in Cebu were a perfect blend of 'rest' and 'experience.' From hopping tours across the blue sea to exploring remnants of the Spanish colonial era within the city, Cebu revealed itself as a city with many faces. First, the hopping tour. The transparent waters, the gentle breeze, and snorkeling amidst vibrant fish in the calm sea—those moments allowed me to let go of all worldly worries and immerse myself in the underwater world. The seafood meal on the boat exceeded expectations, with the fresh taste of the ocean filling my palate. In the city, I leisurely explored the Santo Niño Basilica, Fort San Pedro, and Magellan's Cross. Though not extravagant, the old walls and intricate carvings conveyed Cebu's long history, making the walk a meaningful experience. Standing before Magellan's Cross, I felt that this place was more than just a tourist spot—it was a site where one could connect with Cebu's roots. At the hotel, I enjoyed a relaxing time. The refreshing pool, warm sunlight, and the luxury of doing absolutely nothing were rejuvenating. A lone tourist walking around dark roads late at night can be an easy target for someone to make a quick buck. Being the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines, Cebu has preserved its Spanish influence as evident in the establishment of Catholicism and the remains of some Spanish structures. Some of the most interesting heritage sites that are worth visiting are Magellan's Cross, Mactan Shrine, and Fort San Pedro. Cebu has only 2 seasons and the weather remains warm and cool all year round. Similar to the rest of the Philippines, the best time to visit Cebu is between January and April.
