Based on 63 reviewsThe Sichuan Science and Technology Museum is located north of Tianfu Square in the center of Chengdu. It was renovated from the former Sichuan Provincial Exhibition Hall and, after a comprehensive upgrade, has become an interactive experience-oriented science museum. The four-floor museum features three themed floors—"Three questions," "Three explorations," and "Three lives"—covering over 20 permanent exhibition areas, including aerospace, the Dujiangyan irrigation system, a children's zone, a robot world, acoustics and optics, mathematics and mechanics, life sciences, and disaster prevention. Most of the hundreds of exhibits can be operated hands-on.
The aerospace hall on the first floor is particularly popular, featuring a real J-7 fighter jet and a 1:1 simulated space station. Visitors can step inside the "space station" to see facilities like a vacuum lab and a space exercise bike, as well as experience fighter jet and passenger aircraft simulation cockpits. On the same floor, the dynamic model of the Dujiangyan irrigation system vividly demonstrates the water management principles of the fish mouth, flying sand weir, and bottle-neck channel. The robot world on the second floor showcases robots that can play rock-paper-scissors, compete against three opponents simultaneously in chess, and quickly solve Rubik's cubes. A robot band also performs regularly in the robot theater. The third floor offers earthquake and fire escape simulations, along with insights into the mysteries of the human body and life. The fourth floor's Makerspace Future Academy excels in hands-on projects like robotics workshops and science shows. Notably, many exhibits in the museum are "Made in Chengdu," including the J-7 fighter jet and the WP-6 turbojet engine, both produced by Chengdu's local aviation industry.
The visit focuses on hands-on experiences. Popular attractions may have long queues during holidays, so we recommend reserving at least half a day. Families with young children can start from the first-floor children's area. Some simulated driving experiences have height requirements, so please check the on-site notices.
