Dujiangyan fish-mouth dike is an important attraction in the Dujiangyan scenic area. The fish-mouth dike, also called" fish mouth", is the most important part of the Dujiangyan water conservancy project. This is a fish mouth-shaped dam built with pebbles. Min River is divided into inner and outer rivers, and the inner river is used for irrigation while the outer river is used for flood discharge. This water project fully refelcts the wisdom of the our ancestors.

Show More Reviews1. Engineering Miracle: The Dujiangyan Irrigation System, the first major waterway of the Minjiang River, lies across the river, dividing it into inner and outer canals. During dry seasons, 60% of the water in the inner canal and 40% in the outer canal are used for irrigation; during floods, the outer canal discharges 60% of the water. Its bend-based circulation system achieves a 20/80 sediment discharge (80% of sediment flows to the outer canal). Without high dams, relying solely on topography and water flow, it has operated continuously for over 2200 years, a feat rarely seen in the history of world water conservancy. 2. Historical and Cultural Significance: Construction began in 256 BC under the supervision of Li Bing. From ancient methods using bamboo cages and pebbles to later reinforcements with iron oxen and stone masonry, it is a core landmark of both the World Cultural Heritage and World Irrigation Engineering Heritage sites, embodying the water management philosophy of "utilizing natural forces and following the laws of nature."
