Krabi is located at the mouth of the Krabi River. Although the town is small, it retains a rich, authentic Southern Thai atmosphere and serves as a transit hub for popular destinations such as Ao Nang Beach, Railay Beach, Ko Lanta, and the Phi Phi Islands.
The riverside area is a notable part of the town. The river is home to vast mangrove forests inhabited by groups of monkeys and various wildlife. Walking along the wooden boardwalks, you can see fiddler crabs busy on the mudflats. At the end of the boardwalk, you will find the town's iconic landmark, the Khao Khanap Nam, two limestone mountains facing each other across the river. You can take a long-tail boat from the pier to the caves beneath the mountains, where ancient human settlement ruins and rock paintings have been discovered, along with stalactites and stalagmites.
The town features the Krabi Night Market, which is primarily known for its Southern Thai food stalls, along with handicraft vendors and live music performances, creating a lively atmosphere. A giant black crab sculpture stands by the riverbank, offering views of the Khao Khanap Nam and the mouth of the Krabi River. The Krabi Walking Street night market is held weekly and is a great place to experience local daily life, while strolling along the mangrove boardwalk is a popular way to relax in town.
