Exploring Shanghai's Past and Present Culture
Visiting Shanghai in December, the weather is cold, but thick clothing is sufficient. Since it was my first time in Shanghai, I made a point to tour the city's iconic areas.
You can reach various attractions by following the metro lines. Using a map app helps in planning the routes.
Attraction 1: Nanjing Pedestrian Street. The vibrant tourist atmosphere is palpable, with many visitors around. At night, the Bund offers a magnificent experience of Shanghai's blend of Eastern and Western cultures.
Attraction 2: Wukang Mansion. It feels like stepping into a travel book scene. The crowd is lively, with people often stepping onto the road to find the perfect spot for photos. Naturally, you end up joining them. ;)
Attraction 3: Xuhui Library. A unique library with an extensive collection of books. On the top floor, you can watch nostalgic films. One of the floors features an outdoor long corridor where you can sit on the steps to enjoy the view outside. There are also small balcony-like spaces where you can step out and capture a 180-degree street view. It's truly grand. At the ground floor's small shop and café, you can savor delicious food while soaking in the library's ambiance.
Attraction 4: Great World. The interior still retains the layout of the old entertainment venue, though it has been renovated. There are performances and small attractions to enjoy.
Attraction 5: Yuyuan Road. Filled with unique shops, it's a great spot for young people.
🥰 The most delicious food: Fresh meat mooncakes. I couldn't stop thinking about them every day. On the last day of the trip, I couldn't resist and bought a box to take on the plane.
Trip is quite short and enjoy only the bund surrounding area.
Definitely a must try if you’re first time in Shanghai! A nice view of Shanghai famous skyscrapers. The trip was roughly 45-60mins. You need to change to digital tickets at the machine before entering (can pick what hour you wanna board). Queue is smooth, we boarded less than 15mins)
Well worth the money, the skyline view is fantastic. We paid another 100 Yuan to get access to the front of the cruise ship with some snacks and drinks included. You also get a nice scarf as a gift.
During the July 1st period, the Bund Light and Shadow Show was so crowded with tourists on both sides of the Huangpu River and the North Bund that it was difficult to stand by the river. So I discussed with my friends and finally decided to take the Huangpu River Night Cruise. The ticket price was 135 yuan when I booked it on Ctrip two days in advance, while the ticket price on the spot was 150 yuan. On the day of booking the boat ticket on Ctrip, you can go to the ticket office with the QR code to redeem the selected night trip, and it can be redeemed at Pier 1 and Pier 2 of Shiliupu, which is very convenient. Because the light and shadow show starts at 7:30 pm, we redeemed the <Captain No. 5> big boat at 7:20 pm at Pier 1 at 4 pm. We lined up half an hour in advance, checked the tickets 15 minutes before the boat departed, and set sail on time. The boat is large, the deck is not crowded, and the breeze blows gently. It is very pleasant to enjoy the light and shadow show on both sides of the Huangpu River.
At Shiliupu Wharf, I enjoyed the exquisite cuisine, elegant environment and service of Songhelou Restaurant with my good friend and his wife; then, in the VIP room of the "Ping An He Ying" cruise ship, I watched the bright neon light show of the Bund. This 45-minute water voyage felt like a blink of an eye. Surprisingly, among the densely packed Bund buildings, the magnificent international buildings did not seem particularly dazzling, and the most eye-catching was the Oriental Pearl Tower in red! A friend's words reminded me: We only heard that there is an Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai! Yes, in fact, this building that rose earlier in Shanghai's reform and opening up has become a symbol of this city! And it is deeply engraved in people's memories...
It's worth a visit. The Huangpu River nightscape is breathtaking. Seeing it made me realize how hard-earned our nation's prosperity, peace, and happiness are. I've promised my children this for years, and finally it happened. The service was excellent, but the buffet lacked value for money. It would have been nice to have more local specialties, more flavorful, and warmer. A clearer explanation and a more open and spacious rooftop would have been even better. Dragon boat racing should have national characteristics and promote both national and regional culture. Overall, it's well worth a visit!
My best experience was at Huangphu river & Pearl Tower activities, I really enjoyed those moments...again & again I want to go there
This is the best way to see the lights and city sights along the river. The sights of the Bund are seen best from the middle of the water. Popcorn on board was substandard, but that wasn't what I was there for. This was also the only place I was able to find a Shanghai snow globe to purchase.
