Food Guide

Anji's culinary delights showcase the region's uniqueness through the use of authentic raw materials and straightforward cooking techniques. Signature dishes such as aromatic dried bamboo shoot pork, succulent local chicken casserole, vibrant oil-braised bamboo shoots, and delectable chestnut pork, each emphasize the natural flavors and distinct local taste profiles of the ingredients.

Braised pork with dried bamboo shoots is a delectable dish made by stir-frying streaky pork with high-quality wild hairy bamboo shoots from Anji. The pork captures the subtle aroma of the bamboo shoots, while the bamboo shoots soak up the savory flavors of the pork, creating a wonderfully fragrant combination. As a high-fiber vegetable, hairy bamboo shoots also add a nutritious boost to this flavorful meal.

Chicken hotpot stands out as a signature dish in Anji, made with chickens that roam freely in bamboo forests. This method results in a broth that is not only crystal clear but also intensely flavorful and rich. The chicken, once stewed, sports a golden skin and offers a satisfying chewiness. Atop the broth, a thin layer of yellow oil adds a touch of richness without being greasy. The dish is a staple in many of the area's farmhouse-style restaurants.

Anji stewed bamboo shoots is a renowned dish from Anji, primarily prepared using fresh local bamboo shoots and a generous amount of oil, with minimal seasoning. After a brief stir-fry, the bamboo shoots are left to simmer in the pot, resulting in a dish with a bright appearance as well as a savory and fresh flavor that is simply delightful.

Anji's locally produced chestnuts are known for their soft, sticky texture and sweet flavor, making them an excellent choice for culinary dishes. This dish primarily involves cooking large chunks of pork alongside peeled chestnuts, employing the braising method typical of braised pork. The result is succulent, tender meat that is rich without being greasy. The chestnuts are then simmered with the meat until fully cooked, allowing the savory flavors of the pork to meld perfectly with the delicate sweetness of the chestnuts, resulting in an irresistibly tasty dish.

Anji travel guide and discussion

Heat-beating choices: Many visitors compare two flagship experiences—Sky Land (Yunshang Caoyuan/雲上草原) for cool high-altitude breezes and cliff‑edge thrills, versus Glory Sky City (榮耀天空之城) for glass drift, white‑sand beach vibes and all‑day water play. A common pick is mountain chill by day and sunset views at Sky Land, while groups and families who love getting soaked lean toward Glory Sky City. Bamboo therapy: The Anji Bamboo Sea (中國大竹海) is repeatedly praised for misty early mornings, shaded boardwalks and panoramic lookouts, delivering a calm, photogenic “green ocean” that stays noticeably cooler. For an easy cool-down hike, many also mention Canglong Baipu (藏龍百瀑), where creekside steps and cascading falls make a relaxed summer route. Queue-light family fun: The Panda Tribe Adventure Park (熊貓部落探險樂園) stands out for short lines and a one‑ticket, unlimited‑rides model, combining a 1,314‑meter mountain coaster, bamboo‑shaded drift, canopy trampolines and a gentle petting zone. Parents highlight it as a low‑stress alternative to big-name theme parks, especially on weekdays or early mornings. Practical basics: Most travelers self‑drive from Hangzhou in about 1–1.5 hours (Shanghai about 2–2.5), or take high‑speed rail to Anji/Huzhou then taxi, noting sites are spread out and mountain roads require unhurried driving. Common tips include going early or on weekdays to avoid queues, packing a light jacket for cool mountain nights, and bringing insect repellent; many also favor design‑led mountain minsu with private soaking tubs and simple local staples like bamboo chicken pot and Anji white tea.

Anji hidden gem homestay photo spots — traveler post in Anji

Anji hidden gem homestay photo spots

Drove from Shanghai to Anji for a weekend getaway. I originally just wanted a place to sleep for two days, but I was completely won over by ChillMont. What moved me most wasn't the luxury, but the perfect sense of relaxation: mountain views right in front of you, a courtyard with a lawn, shade, and the sound of shallow flowing water. Opening the window in the room feels like bringing the whole mountain inside. I suggest arriving Friday night or early Saturday morning to avoid peak crowds; the afternoon is the most comfortable time to take photos at the homestay. Highlights: Mountain view courtyard, terrace lounging, walking by the stream, afternoon tea on the terrace, and stargazing at night. The homestay is perfect for a slow stay, so I don't recommend packing your schedule too full. Two days and one night is just right: shoot the courtyard and room on the first day, and head to nearby scenic spots on the second morning. Photo spots: 1. By the room window: get close to the floor-to-ceiling window with the mountain view in the background. 2. Terrace rattan chair area: the backlight is very soft after 4:00 PM. 3. Stone path by the stream: use a low angle to capture someone walking by. 4. Under the lawn shade: use tree shadows as a foreground. 5. Corridor outside the restaurant: great for back-view shots. 6. Top-floor viewing platform: capture the person with the distant mountains. 7. By the pool/water feature: wearing white or light-colored clothing looks cleaner. 8. Night warm light area: perfect for atmospheric portraits. Travel tips: Don't just look at sunny photos—the weather in the Anji mountains changes quickly, so bring a thin jacket and mosquito repellent. Don't pack your schedule with too many nearby attractions; the homestay itself is worth spending half a day at. Avoid strong noon light for photos. Driving is more convenient. I recommend booking meals in advance. Weekend rooms fill up fast, so book early to secure your preferred room type. Overall, ChillMont is perfect for those looking to escape the city, take nature-inspired photos, and spend a quiet weekend. It’s not the kind of bustling, trendy hotspot, but rather the type of place you grow to love the longer you stay.

Anji Hidden Gem Homestay Recommendation | Slow Living in the Bamboo Sea and Valley — traveler post in Anji

Anji Hidden Gem Homestay Recommendation | Slow Living in the Bamboo Sea and Valley

On this trip to Anji, I specifically avoided the crowded, popular tourist spots and chose a homestay hidden in the valley—ChillMont Anji. As soon as I arrived at the entrance, I felt like I could finally quiet down. The white-walled architecture, wooden textures, terrace, courtyard, and the distant bamboo sea all blend together. It is not that over-the-top influencer style, but a place truly suitable for zoning out, taking photos, and relaxing. Highlights 1. The morning mist in the valley is beautiful In the morning, you can see the mountain mist as soon as you open the window, especially around sunrise. The distant bamboo sea is wrapped in layers of thin mist, like walking into a landscape painting. 2. The terrace has a strong vacation vibe Sitting on the terrace drinking coffee is incredibly comfortable. With mountains above and the courtyard below, it is the perfect place to do nothing but soak up the sun, listen to the breeze, and chat. 3. The public areas are photogenic and visually appealing The homestay's white walls, wooden boardwalks, stone paths, greenery, and night lighting all have great texture. You do not need complex props to get great shots. 4. The surrounding bamboo forest has a fresh atmosphere There are quiet mountain roads and bamboo forests near the homestay. Taking a walk there in the morning, the air is filled with the scent of bamboo leaves and earth, which is incredibly healing. Photo spots · Courtyard curved stone path: Great for back-view or full-body shots. Have the subject stand in the middle of the path and shoot from the entrance for great depth. · Terrace dining area: The light is softest in the afternoon. Include coffee, desserts, and the sunset in the frame for atmospheric lifestyle shots. · Mountain-view guest room window: Sit by the window or stand in front of the floor-to-ceiling window with the bamboo sea as the background for clean, quiet portraits. · Bamboo forest path: I recommend taking shots of yourself walking away from the camera. Let the sunlight filter through the bamboo leaves for a cinematic feel. · Nighttime terrace: Once the warm lights are on, it is perfect for close-ups and atmospheric shots. Use a steady light source to avoid blur. Tips · Book in advance for weekends: This homestay does not have many rooms, so it fills up quickly during peak seasons and weekends. If you want a mountain-view room, try to book early. · Don't just photograph the front of the building: It is better to capture details of the courtyard, terrace, window views, and bamboo forest to make your photo collection more diverse. · Morning photos turn out better than midday ones: Midday light is harsh and can easily lead to overexposure. Morning and evening light is softer, and the valley's layers are more distinct. · Significant temperature difference in the mountains: It gets chilly in the Anji mountains in the morning and evening, so I recommend bringing a light jacket, even in summer. · Driving yourself is more convenient: The homestay is in a quiet location, so driving makes the trip easier and luggage transport more convenient. · Confirm room type in advance: Views and room sizes vary, so check if your booking includes breakfast, a terrace, or a mountain view. Overall, ChillMont Anji is perfect for those looking to briefly escape the city. It is not a bustling resort, but rather a place to slow down for a couple of days: watching the mountains in the morning, drinking coffee in the afternoon, and listening to the insects at night—letting time pass a little more lightly.

Tried and tested: I covered Punch Land in one day! Here is my guide to the best photo spots. — traveler post in Anji

Tried and tested: I covered Punch Land in one day! Here is my guide to the best photo spots.

I finally checked Punch Land off my wishlist! I thought it was just a regular family park, but once I arrived, I realized how eye-catching the colors are. The Ferris wheel, flower wall, lakeside path, and rounded cartoon buildings are all so photogenic—perfect for a relaxing weekend, a date, or letting the kids burn off some energy. We arrived around 10:00 AM, started with a panoramic shot at the entrance plaza, and then walked along the lake toward the main amusement area. The pace was relaxed, which made for the best experience. For highlights, I highly recommend the Ferris wheel view, the lakeside reflection, and the flower wall photo spot. For the Ferris wheel, I suggest going in the morning or evening when the light is soft, so your face won't be underexposed. For the lakeside reflection, stand near the railing on the viewing path and use portrait orientation to frame the Ferris wheel, the lake, and yourself together. The flower wall area can get crowded, so I suggest avoiding the center and choosing a spot slightly to the side for a cleaner background. The family interaction area has cute colors, perfect for candid shots. For the parade and the evening light show, I recommend grabbing a spot on the side of the path early for a better view. As for photo spots, the entrance plaza is great for that first "I was here" panoramic shot. I suggest standing a bit further back on the central axis, using the buildings and the Ferris wheel as a background. At the flower wall, use portrait mode and have the subject stand one-third of the way in front of the wall; holding the camera slightly lower will make you look taller. For the lakeside spots, I recommend going in the afternoon. If you're shooting backlit, remember to turn on your phone's HDR, or the sky will be overexposed. The amusement area is great for candid shots while walking—no need to pose too much. The evening parade is perfect for atmospheric shots of people from behind. For the night light show, use your phone's night mode, keep it steady, and avoid zooming in and out too much. I've also put together some tips to help you avoid common pitfalls: First, don't rush to line up for popular attractions as soon as you enter. Check the park map for opening times first, and note down the times for the Ferris wheel, parade, and light show. Second, it's crowded on weekends, so I suggest arriving early. Take photos in the morning when it's less crowded, rest in the afternoon to avoid the harsh sun, and shoot the night scenes in the evening. Third, if it's windy by the lake, don't wear light, flowy skirts, as they can get messy in photos. Fourth, some areas in the family zone have soft ground, so I recommend wearing comfortable sneakers. Fifth, the night light show gets crowded, so don't squeeze into the front row. The sides actually make it easier to capture the full Ferris wheel and the light reflections. Overall, Punch Land is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, so I don't recommend packing your schedule too full. We followed the order of "entrance panorama—lakeside reflection—flower wall—family zone—parade—night light show," which balanced photo-taking and resting perfectly. If you want clean photos, try to visit on a weekday or arrive early. If you want dreamy night shots, wait until the lights come on in the evening.

Sky Land International Mountain Tourism Resort

Going on a sunny day is a great idea. When I went, it happened to be raining and foggy. The mountain was covered in white, and I couldn't see anything. It had a mysterious, unknown feel to it.

Hello Kitty Park

This miniature version of Disneyland, while lacking the cultural depth and the unique themed movies of Disneyland, includes all the essential attractions, and its parade performances are also distinctive.

The zoo + amusement park experience wasn't as good as Cloud Grassland. The park is quite large, and a day there was pretty fulfilling, so it was a good choice. The highlight was the close-up animal viewing, and at the end, you could feed the black swans on the lawn, which the kids enjoyed.

China Bamboo Expo Park

It's perfect for families with elderly members. The air is fresh, the paths are gentle, and the environment is wonderful. There are sightseeing buses available so you can get around if you get tired. The museum itself is also a great place to escape the heat, and both the indoor and outdoor areas are fun.

Dazhuhai Tourist Area of China

This scenic area is definitely worth seeing. The surrounding bamboo is indeed very lush. Standing on the viewing platform at the top of the mountain, the surrounding bamboo forest is refreshing and makes you wonder if you would live a long life if you lived here for a long time.

We stayed at the resort for two days. The hotel consisted of individual villas, creating a charming atmosphere. Our butler, Xingzi, was incredibly attentive and helpful. Upon arrival, she escorted us to our room and meticulously explained the surrounding attractions and the resort as a whole. She responded to messages almost instantly whenever we needed anything and quickly resolved any issues. The rooms were clean and tidy, and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip – a truly pleasant vacation.

Sky Land Ski Slope

This was my first time at an outdoor ski resort, and it was quite beginner-friendly. There were many slopes, and if you go during off-peak hours, it won't be crowded even without using the VIP access. Instructors are relatively expensive. If you need photos or videos taken, be sure to remind the instructor beforehand, otherwise they won't help. We hired a snowboard instructor for 2 hours (1-on-2), and my child learned basic skiing on the intermediate slope, but they didn't take a single photo. Another instructor taught skiing, and they helped take videos after I reminded them to do so. It's best to choose your preferred instructor in advance.
