Food Guide

Renowned for its distinctive flavors and meticulous preparation techniques, Guilin's culinary ranges from its traditional rice noodles to freshly made beer fish. Local specialties, like Gongcheng oil tea and sweet caramelized taro, each highlights the area’s rich cultural and culinary heritage.

Guilin noodles are a distinctive local snack celebrated for their unique flavors. This dish primarily consists of noodles, a specially seasoned brine, and various toppings such as vegetables, peanuts, and chopped green onions. Crafting Guilin noodles involves a careful process where high-grade rice is ground into a paste, shaped into dough, and then cooked. The dough is subsequently pressed into cylindrical strands or slices. These noodles are characteristically white and silky, served with a savory broth concocted from beef, pork, Sichuan pepper, licorice, and other ingredients, creating a memorable and lingering taste sensation.

Beer battered fish is a renowned dish in Yangshuo, celebrated for its tender and finely textured fish. The cooking process is meticulous, featuring distinct ingredients. Fresh carp or spinefoot from the Li River are seasoned with salt and cooking wine, then fried in a blend of peanut oil and raw tea oil from the northern Guilin mountains. Enhanced with a stir-fry of green and red peppers and tomatoes, the dish is delicious and succulent.

Gongcheng Oil Tea: For breakfast, long-time residents of Guilin like Gongcheng oil tea, a regional variation renowned for its distinct flavor. These days, several local eateries offer oil tea as a complimentary appetizer. The preparation of oil tea is somewhat intricate, involving a process of simmering lard or bone broth, and thereafter infusing it with scallions. It's customarily served with stir-fried puffed rice, crispy fried snacks, peanuts, and roasted soybeans for a uniquely satisfying taste.

Caramelized sweet potato: Taro is bountiful in Guilin, known for its delightfully sweet and tender texture. This makes caramelized sweet potato a local favorite. The dish is best enjoyed hot, allowing for the sugar to be drawn into strands. Upon immersing in cold water, these strands snap, leaving behind a delicately sweet flavor with a crunchy sugar shell.

Bikes can be rented from hotels, shops, or via mobile apps, with rates varying based on rental duration and bike type. Recommended cycling routes are available for tourists to enjoy the scenic beauty at their own pace.

Where to Stay

Guilin, known for its stunning karst landscapes, is a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists. The city's accommodation options cover several key areas, each offering unique experiences and conveniences for travelers.

West Street, located in the heart of Yangshuo County, is a hub of cultural exchange and a magnet for international visitors. Known as the oldest street in Yangshuo, it is famous for the blend of traditional Chinese architecture and modern amenities. The street is lined with a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants, offering everything from local crafts to international cuisine. At night, West Street becomes a lively spot where tourists can experience the local nightlife, including bars and cafes with unique decorations. The street's proximity to the Li River adds to its charm, making it an ideal place for those expecting to feel a vibrant cultural atmosphere and enjoy the convenience of having numerous dining and entertainment options right at their doorstep.

The Two Rivers and Four Lakes area is a picturesque part of Guilin that includes the Li River, Taohua River, and the interconnected lakes of Mulong, Gui, Rong, and Shan. This area is perfect for travelers who want to seek a serene environment with easy access to cultural landmarks. Accommodations here offer views of tranquil waters and lush landscapes. Visitors can enjoy strolls along the lakeshores or take a boat cruise to admire the illuminated scenery at night. There are many cultural heritages in this area such as the Sun and Moon Pagodas and the Ancient South Gate. Travelers can have a peaceful stay here while still being close to Guilin's natural and historical sites.

Shili Scenery Gallery, stretching from the outskirts of Yangshuo to Moon Hill, is a corridor of natural beauty that resembles a landscape painting. This region is ideal for travelers who prefer a tranquil rural setting and wish to be surrounded by picturesque countryside. The area is suitable for tours, with cycling being a popular way to explore the scenic spots along the road. Visitors can experience the local culture at attractions like the Totem Ancient Trail and Butterfly Spring Park. The proximity to the Yulong River also offers opportunities for bamboo raft tours. Accommodations in Shili Gallery cater to those looking to escape the city's hustle and enjoy the simplicity and charm of rural Guilin.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Guilin is from April to October, as this period offers a blend of warm sunshine, gentle breezes, and the most comfortable weather for exploring the enchanting natural scenery. April and May provide the opportunity to experience the Li River's beauty after the drizzle, while July and August are perfect for hiking and capturing the lush greenery. September and October are ideal for witnessing the golden terraced fields at sunset, and the autumn months offer less rain with hot-to-mild weather, perfect for outdoor activities and enjoying the golden autumn paddy fields. However, it is advisable to avoid Chinese public holidays due to large crowds and higher costs.

Useful Guide

Guilin, a city in China, predominantly speaks Mandarin Chinese, the official language of the country. Travelers to Guilin are encouraged to learn basic Chinese phrases to enhance their experience, as English is not widely spoken outside major cities. Translation apps and carrying hotel business cards with Chinese instructions can aid in communication. Guilin's multilingualism is limited, but some locals in tourist areas may speak English. To overcome language barriers, use gestures, maps, and facial expressions.

Alipay: Widely used for convenient payment and transport options, supporting integration with other services like Didi for efficient travel.

WeChat: Essential for communication, and social networking, and also acts as a digital wallet, allowing for various transactions and services accessibly.

Didi Chuxing: Popular for ride-hailing, offers integrated payment through Alipay, ensuring ease of transport without a local number.

MetroMan: Useful for navigating metro systems across major cities, helps plan routes and calculates travel costs effectively.

Baidu Maps: The primary choice for accurate, real-time navigation within China, surpassing other map applications.

Mobile data packages for immigrants in China are available through local carriers such as China Mobile and Unicom. China Mobile offers prepaid data SIM cards with unlimited text messages and calls within China, and high-speed connections, sometimes even 5G. Unicom provides SIM cards with data packs that include unlimited music applications, and both do not require long-term contracts. Prices for eSIMs with unlimited data start at just $6 for China.

Public WiFi in China is widely available in places like airports, restaurants, coffee shops, and malls. However, connecting to these networks often requires a Chinese phone number for text verification, which can be a challenge for travelers without a local SIM card. Global WiFi devices like Skyroam can be a convenient alternative, offering the ability to connect multiple devices and requiring no additional setup upon arrival in China.

Guilin features a monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate, with mild winters and long, hot, humid summers. The city experiences significant rainfall, particularly from April to June, and is prone to occasional heavy rains and typhoons. Travelers should pack light, breathable clothing for the summer, with rain gear such as umbrellas or waterproof jackets. During winter, warm layers including sweaters and coats are advisable. Due to the varied weather, it is recommended to wear comfortable footwear suitable for walking in all seasons. For protection against the sun and insects, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent are essential, especially during the summer months.

In Guilin, popular payment methods include wire transfer, credit card, PayPal, and WeChat Pay.

Wire transfers are commonly used, but be aware it may take up to 2 weeks for funds to reach the account, with a recommendation to use the Bank of China for faster processing. Credit card payments are accepted with an additional service fee of approximately 3%, and major cards like Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted. PayPal is also an option, with an extra service fee of around 3.5% to 4%. WeChat Pay is suggested for expats in China and now allows foreign travelers to link their credit cards for mobile payments.

When making payments, always confirm bank details and transaction fees, and notify your travel consultant of the payment to secure your booking.

Guilin travel guide and discussion

Signature experiences: Many travelers center their trip on the Li River cruise into Yangshuo and a hand‑poled bamboo‑raft on the Yulong River, calling the former “a destination in itself” and the latter a quieter, closer‑to‑water glide. In the city, the landmark Elephant Trunk Hill offers an easy riverside loop and photo‑friendly viewpoints. Pacing a short trip: A common 3‑day rhythm is city walk + night lakefront on Day 1, Yulong River raft with a relaxed countryside ride on Day 2, and a final day for the classic 20‑yuan banknote viewpoint or a cave/cable‑car panorama. Many suggest keeping midday hours for indoor sites or rest and using mornings/evenings for on‑water or outdoor activities. When to go & timing: August is humid and very hot with pop‑up showers, so mornings and late afternoons feel best; in heavy rain, rafts can pause service. Several visitors also note bar‑area noise at night—staying just outside the busiest strip improves sleep. Practical safeguards: Buy official bamboo‑raft tickets only and avoid roadside “private rafts,” low‑price day tours, and unlicensed cars; rent e‑bikes from legit shops and photograph the bike before riding. Common advice is to confirm beer‑fish prices by weight and agree on any photo fees with riverside “fishermen” before shooting. Getting there & around: High‑speed rail links Guilin and Yangshuo in roughly 20–30 minutes, while the one‑way Li River cruise takes about 4–4.5 hours and conveniently ends in Yangshuo. In town, most rely on Didi/taxis; buses and short walks reach Elephant Trunk Hill, and e‑bikes suit the rural corridors. Food notes: Guilin rice noodles and beer fish show up in most itineraries, with many suggesting side‑street eateries over main tourist strips and picking up souvenirs or snacks at supermarkets for better value.

Guilin! The Longji Terraces have entered their best viewing season of the year 🌾

Golden autumn in October~ The rice paddies have turned golden!! It's so beautiful, like living inside an oil painting 💛🧡 🏨 🧡We stayed at a homestay near Jinkeng Dazhai Viewpoint No. 1 (it's almost at the very top), which is also the best spot to watch the sunrise 🌅. Watching the starry sky at night is also amazing!! A sky full of stars with the sounds of insects and birds! The entire rice paddy presents different scenery at sunrise, sunset, during the day, and at night 👍 🧡Viewpoint No. 2 is the best spot for night views!! 🧡Viewpoint No. 1 is the best spot for sunrise!! You can choose where to stay based on your needs! ⚠️ 🎫CNY 80/person 💛The harvest starts on November 1!! 💛I recommend staying for one night!! Experience the different scenery! 💛I recommend hiring a car if you're a beginner! If you're not an experienced driver, I don't recommend driving on the mountain roads! (The mountain road takes an hour to drive, assuming no traffic jams.) ❌I don't recommend going during holidays; traffic jams on the mountain roads will greatly ruin the experience!!

Guilin–Yangshuo First-Timer River Planner: Li River Cruise or Yulong River Raft? — traveler post in Guilin

Guilin–Yangshuo First-Timer River Planner: Li River Cruise or Yulong River Raft?

A Li River cruise and a Yulong River raft are not two names for the same outing. Choose the southbound Guilin-area Li cruise when you want a longer sweep of karst scenery and can protect a full day. The boat journey is about four hours, but pier access and the onward transfer add to the day. Choose a Yulong segment when you want a closer-to-water countryside experience near Yangshuo, provided the exact route, total timing and your party’s eligibility fit. Do not assume every raft is a two-person, one-way trip. This guide compares the experiences, two actual Yulong routes, pickup points, luggage planning, document checks and the whole outing cost. With one usable day, choose one main water experience. If both matter and you have two usable days, give each its own day. Before paying, confirm the chosen product’s current rules, accepted identity document, operation and logistics. A beautiful river photo does not confirm a booking will fit your plans. Save this guide before booking, and share it with your travel companion. #Guilin #Yangshuo #LiRiver #YulongRiver #ChinaTravel #TravelPlanning

Autumn trip to Xanadu | Stepping into a real-life Guilin landscape secret — traveler post in Guilin

Autumn trip to Xanadu | Stepping into a real-life Guilin landscape secret

🌾 Seriously! Yangshuo is literally a real-life ink wash painting. For a getaway around Guangxi, my friends and I set our sights on Xanadu. ✨ The atmosphere here is so quiet and healing; we spent the whole day taking it slow. Chatting with friends, every casual shot is an atmospheric masterpiece. 🍃 An immersive experience of local ethnic customs, and the autumn rice paddies are super photogenic! There's also a free cormorant photo spot 📸 where I captured a "photo of a lifetime."

Stay at Banyan Tree Hangzhou and enjoy exclusive access to a sculling boat on the outer lake — traveler post in Guilin

Stay at Banyan Tree Hangzhou and enjoy exclusive access to a sculling boat on the outer lake

Banyan Tree Hangzhou is a perennial fixture on the list of Hangzhou's most expensive hotels. Opened in 2010, it has been operating for 16 years. On OTAs, base rooms start at 2,000+, and Luxury Water Villas are 3,700+ per night on the calendar. Two key highlights: the room type and the outer lake boat ride. It has always ranked on the list of Hangzhou's most expensive hotels. Today, let's break down the Banyan Tree Hangzhou package 😌 It has always ranked on the list of Hangzhou's most expensive hotels. Qiushui Villa, Amanfayun, Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou at West Lake, Banyan Tree Hangzhou, Relais & Châteaux Zi Xuan, Shangri-La... Hangzhou locals can recite these names in their sleep. Today, I'm writing about Banyan Tree Hangzhou 🌿 It is hidden deep within the Xixi National Wetland Park. Opened in 2010, it has been 16 years. Honestly, the room rates have never dropped, and it hasn't been overshadowed by newcomers. On OTAs, the rate is 2,000+ per night, even for a base room. Banyan Tree Hangzhou firmly holds its position as a top-tier resort in the Jiangnan region, thanks to something others simply cannot replicate. To put it broadly, it's the ambiance; to put it simply, it's the location. 01 First, let's look at the room type: Luxury Water Villa 🏡 This is a 130 sqm detached villa with a private courtyard, featuring a small garden and a lakeside balcony. For those seeking a completely private vacation, this is the compelling reason to choose it. You can feed fish and ducks right from the balcony—I have real photos from my stay 🦆🐟 Lying on your own lakeside balcony, with trees overhead and water outside the window. There are probably few hotels in Hangzhou that offer this experience. On the calendar, the Luxury Water Villa is 3,700+ per night. This is a high-tier room type. Let me clarify the room hierarchy: Water View Suite — Luxury Water View Suite — Wellbeing Water View Suite — Water Villa — Luxury Water Villa. 02 A rarer perk: Choose between an inner or outer lake boat ride, including afternoon tea for two 🛶🍵 This perk is extremely rare: choose between an inner or outer lake boat ride, including afternoon tea for two. The inner lake isn't rare; it's the lake inside the Banyan Tree property. What's truly rare is the outer lake boat ride—a sculling boat in an exclusive area within Xixi Wetland, where you can enjoy afternoon tea on the boat. How exclusive is it? This stretch of water belongs only to you, and no other sculling boats will appear in your view. It's true VVIP treatment 😌 So, choose the outer lake without hesitation. You can have afternoon tea on the boat: Western-style for the inner lake, and a choice of Chinese or Western-style for the outer lake. This is a truly unique Xixi Wetland experience just for you. 03 Location: Not by West Lake, not in the city center, but hidden entirely within Xixi Wetland 🌿 It's not located by West Lake or in the city center; it's hidden entirely within Xixi National Wetland Park. Retreat into seclusion, emerge into the bustle. Xixi Wetland is the first national wetland park in China, combining urban, agricultural, and cultural wetland elements, and is known as the "green lung" of Hangzhou. Banyan Tree chose this site for its water and forests. Hui-style architecture with white walls and black tiles spreads along the river. With dense rivers and lakes, and pavilions and bridges complementing each other, you see water wherever you look. Step out, and you're in a five-star wetland. It's a resort that has truly embedded itself into a classic Jiangnan water town. 04 Brand: Banyan Tree follows a path of secluded luxury ✨ The entire Banyan Tree group follows a path of secluded luxury, selecting top-tier natural and cultural locations worldwide for their properties. Lijiang, Yangshuo, Huangshan, Shangri-La, Sanya, as well as Phuket in Thailand and Bintan in Indonesia—every location is carefully chosen. This Xixi property is a masterpiece of Banyan Tree in the Jiangnan region. 05 Hardware: All rooms start at at least 120 sqm, which is quite impressive 😌 The biggest strength of this property is that all room types start at at least 120 sqm. Just think, in a place like Hangzhou where every inch of land is precious, 40+ sqm is considered generous. But at Banyan Tree Hangzhou, the entry-level Water View Suite is 120 sqm, featuring a living room, bedroom, scenic balcony, and bathtub. This "all rooms 120 sqm+" scale is something you'll hardly find in any other resort hotel at the same price point in Hangzhou. 06 Spa: Banyan Tree's signature craft 💆 Banyan Tree's spa is a signature craft of the group; they have always insisted on self-operation and even export their expertise. The massage therapists at this Hangzhou location are all graduates of the Banyan Tree Spa training academies in Lijiang or Phuket, Thailand. When staying at Banyan Tree, the spa is worth adding to your experience list. 07 Family-friendly: Feeding ducks and koi from the balcony can keep kids entertained for half a day 🦆🐟 This property does a great job with family-friendly offerings. The grounds are home to a flock of ducks and many koi. Kids can spend half a day feeding them from the balcony or by the water. Some of the koi are even bigger than the ducks. For families with kids, this is a natural resort setting that's hard to find in the city. Kids can run wild, adults can relax, and everyone gets what they want 😌 08 Breakfast: Both Chinese and Western options, with many local Hangzhou breakfast items made to order at open stations 🍜 The breakfast variety is quite rich, with both Chinese and Western options. In particular, many local Hangzhou breakfast items are made to order at open stations. There are also many exquisite snacks and breads, which was a bit unexpected. Breakfast includes the signature West Lake Osmanthus Soup, which is sweet, gentle, and rich in osmanthus fragrance. This is a Hangzhou specialty and fits perfectly with the vibe of Banyan Tree Hangzhou. You can eat outdoors, basking in the sun while watching the lake ripples. Hangzhou in this season is truly comfortable 🌞 09 Service: Banyan Tree Host Ambassador system, making transfers and ticketing worry-free 🚌 Banyan Tree has its own "Banyan Tree Host Ambassador" system, so service is reliable. Staying at Banyan Tree Hangzhou includes free shuttle buggy service, which can take you from the hotel to the Wetland Museum or the entrance of the Lotus Beach Bird Watching Area, seamlessly connecting with the free routes in the Xixi scenic area. You can explore the wetland without walking until your legs give out. The concierge desk can also offer a 10% discount on wetland tickets and electric boat tickets, and they can also book sculling boats for you. 10 Final summary: This package focuses on two key things 😌 First, the room type is high-tier: Luxury Water Villa, 130 sqm detached villa with a private courtyard, 3,700+ per night on the calendar. Second, the perks are rare: Outer lake sculling boat afternoon tea, exclusive lake surface—choose the outer lake without hesitation. Combined with the location in Xixi Wetland, the hardware with all rooms starting at 120 sqm, Banyan Tree Spa, family-friendly duck and koi feeding, open-station breakfast, and shuttle/ticketing services, when you break down the cost of this package, you'll understand why it's a good deal. Suitable for: Those wanting a private vacation, families with kids, those who love wetland water views, and those who want to experience Banyan Tree Spa and the sculling boat afternoon tea 😌

2 hours by high-speed train to Guilin, step into the golden rice terraces exclusive to October — traveler post in Guilin

2 hours by high-speed train to Guilin, step into the golden rice terraces exclusive to October

Longji during the National Day holiday is the quietest and most golden time of the year. In October, people in Guilin are still wearing short sleeves, but in the mountains, the morning temperature is already down to 7°C. Take a high-speed train to Guilin, then transfer to a 2.5-hour drive along winding mountain roads. Push open the wooden window of your guesthouse—waves of rice paddies cover the entire hillside. As the wind blows, the golden ears of rice sway back and forth. The rice in Longji is harvested on November 1 every year, and the entire month of October is the viewing period. The two weeks between the National Day holiday and the harvest are when the colors are most vibrant and the crowds are thinnest. On the first day, I went to Jinkeng Dazhai. I took the cable car from the foot of the mountain to the Golden Buddha Peak. Beneath my feet were layers of terraced fields, with the rice mostly ripe, a mix of yellow and green. At the summit viewing platform, the entire valley was covered in gold, and the stilt houses in the distance looked like tiny black dots. In the evening, I waited for the sunset at the summit. As the setting sun shone on the rice ears, the whole hillside seemed to glow in the breeze. On the second day, I got up early to watch the sunrise. At 5:30 AM, I walked in the dark to the Xishan Shaole viewing platform. Morning mist filled the valley, and the terraces emerged layer by layer from the fog. When the sun rose from behind the distant mountains, the light hit the rice waves at an angle, turning the whole mountain a warm gold. I spent a long time at the Thousand-Layer Ladder viewing platform in the morning; the curves of the ridges here are the densest, layer upon layer. In the afternoon, I headed to Ping'an Village and visited the Seven Stars Around the Moon and Nine Dragons and Five Tigers viewing platforms. The terraces in Ping'an Village are more delicate than those in Jinkeng, with S-shaped ridges winding around the mountain. The yellow of the rice, the green of the mountain, and the blue of the sky are layered together. On the third morning, I sat at the entrance of the guesthouse for a long time. The mist in the valley hadn't cleared yet, and the terraces were faintly visible in the fog as smoke rose from the neighboring guesthouse. In October, the mountain mornings are only 7–8°C. Wrapped in a thick coat, sipping a cup of hot tea while watching the waves of rice spread out below—this moment was worth more than any viewing platform. 🚄 How to get there? Take a high-speed train to Guilin Station or Guilin North Station. After exiting, transfer to a bus at Qintan Bus Station that goes directly to the Longji Rice Terraces scenic area ticket office. The fare is CNY 50, and the trip takes about 2.5 hours. For groups of three or more, hiring a private car is recommended, costing about CNY 400–500 per vehicle, which can take you directly to the entrance of the village. 🎫 Ticket information The Longji Rice Terraces pass is CNY 80/person, covering Jinkeng Dazhai, Ping'an Village, and Guzhuang Village, with unlimited entry within 3 days. The Jinkeng cable car is CNY 100 for a round trip and CNY 70 for a one-way trip. The scenic area shuttle bus is CNY 20 for a single trip and CNY 35 for a round trip. 🗺️ 3-day, 2-night itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Guilin > Transfer to Longji Jinkeng Dazhai > Take the cable car to the Golden Buddha Peak viewing platform > Watch the sunset > Overnight stay at a guesthouse on Jinkeng Mountain. Day 2: Early morning sunrise at Xishan Shaole viewing platform > Thousand-Layer Ladder viewing platform > Afternoon transfer to Ping'an Village > Seven Stars Around the Moon, Nine Dragons and Five Tigers > Overnight stay in Ping'an Village. Day 3: Morning mist in Ping'an Village > Huangluo Yao Village (Red Yao Long Hair Village) > Return to Guilin. 🏠 Accommodation reference Stilt house guesthouses on Jinkeng and Ping'an mountains: economy rooms are CNY 120–160/night, mid-range view rooms are CNY 180–260/night, and high-end panoramic homestays are CNY 300–450/night. Prices drop after the National Day holiday, but booking in advance is still recommended for weekends. 📸 Photo spots Jinkeng "Xishan Shaole" viewing platform: sunrise and morning mist over golden rice waves; Jinkeng "Thousand-Layer Ladder" viewing platform: densest curves of the ridges; Ping'an Village "Seven Stars Around the Moon": S-shaped terraces winding around the mountain; Ping'an Village "Nine Dragons and Five Tigers": overlooking the entire valley; Huangluo Yao Village: Red Yao elders with long hair framed with the terraces. 💡 A few reminders The rice is harvested on November 1. The period before the end of October is the final golden phase; confirm the harvest schedule for the current year before you depart. In October, temperatures in the mountains are only 7–12°C in the morning and evening. You must bring a thick coat; it is even colder when watching the sunrise. There may still be rain showers in early October, making mountain roads slippery; wear non-slip shoes. The winding mountain roads have many curves; if you get motion sickness, prepare medication in advance. This hidden autumn gem in Guilin is about to go viral—go before it does! — traveler post in Guilin

This hidden autumn gem in Guilin is about to go viral—go before it does!

Hey everyone! I discovered a true "autumn wilderness" hidden gem near Guilin. It's the perfect place to escape the crowds, leave your worries behind, and just relax for two days 🍃 . 🏞️ About the environment This is the real-life Peach Blossom Spring described by Tao Yuanming! With autumn-exclusive golden rice fields, distant green mountains, and quaint villages, every photo you take looks like a cinematic masterpiece. The best part is that it's truly uncrowded—no need to queue for photo spots, and just strolling around at your own pace is incredibly satisfying. . 🎭 Immersive intangible cultural heritage experience This really blew me away! I heard the legendary Dong Grand Choir—that natural, a cappella, multi-part harmony is as pure and healing as the mountain breeze. Then, I joined the locals for the Duoye dance; everyone held hands in a circle, singing and dancing, and even introverts like me had a blast! There's also an interactive embroidered ball throwing activity, so it's definitely not just a superficial sightseeing experience. . 📸 Free photo with cormorants There are super well-behaved cormorants by the water! You can actually take photos with them for free—it doesn't cost a cent! Wear a light-colored dress and stand by the bamboo raft to perfectly capture that classic Jiangnan vibe of fishing boats at dusk. . 🌾 Rice field photo shoot You must wear a light-colored dress to the rice fields. They are fully ripe right now, with golden waves of rice rolling layer upon layer. When the breeze blows, the whole field feels warm and incredibly healing. . ⚠️ Practical tips 👉 I recommend coming in the morning. The light is soft, there are fewer people, and you will get twice as many great photos 👉 Take a boat tour of Yanzi Lake and pass through the karst cave first. Emerging from it feels like stepping into a scene from an ancient poem 👉 There is a big temperature difference between morning and evening in autumn, so remember to bring a light jacket Go now before it gets overrun by crowds 📍Location: The Wonderland Scenic Area, Guilin .

Guilin Park has entered its peak viewing season. — traveler post in Guilin

Guilin Park has entered its peak viewing season.

In golden October, autumn in Shanghai is awakened by the scent of osmanthus. As soon as you step into Guilin Park, the air is filled with the sweet scent of osmanthus, and you instantly feel at ease. This century-old classical garden, which has returned after a year of renovations, paired with the osmanthus in full bloom, perfectly captures the essence of Chinese aesthetics! 📸 Osmanthus ✖️ Chinese-style lattice windows | The magic of framed scenery with every step The park features 46 vintage lattice windows with completely different designs arranged against white walls and dark tiles, ranging from circular moon gates to begonia and octagonal shapes, all beautifully spaced. When osmanthus branches laden with golden blossoms peek through the windows, casting dappled shadows on the walls, every snapshot becomes a picturesque, vintage-style masterpiece. The visual appeal is currently at its peak. 🌿 Osmanthus ✖️ Taihu stone | The classical charm of a balance of strength and softness Beside the rugged and ancient Taihu stones, clusters of pale yellow osmanthus flowers hang gracefully. The delicate golden blossoms create a striking contrast with the rough, heavy stone surface, and the Chinese elegance hidden in these details is truly enchanting. 💛 Osmanthus ✖️ Red walls and ancient architecture | Warm autumn romance Under the red walls and wooden eaves, osmanthus branches hang low, their bright yellow petals appearing exceptionally vibrant and warm against the vermilion background. As a breeze blows by, the sweet fragrance mixed with the scent of plants drifts into your collar, leaving you captivated. 🏛️ Osmanthus ✖️ White walls and dark tiles | The poetic charm of Jiangnan like an ink wash painting Looking through the moon gate, in front of the classical Chinese lattice windows and white walls, the osmanthus and light weave together into a stunning picture. Strolling along the zigzag corridor, the golden trees shimmer in the autumn sun. If you happen to encounter young women in Hanfu walking through, every step offers a new view, and you might momentarily feel as if you are in a Jiangnan garden from a thousand years ago. Due to the temperature drop, the osmanthus is blooming all at once this year, doubling the fragrance, but the peak viewing period only has about a week left. If you miss it, you'll have to wait until next year. 📍 Address: 128 Guilin Road, Xuhui District 🚉 Transportation: Metro Line 12/15, Guilin Park Station, Exit 5 🕙 Hours: 5:00 AM–9:00 PM

First stay at Longji Yunshanju Homestay (Jiulong Wuhu Viewing Platform Branch), absolutely loved it

Now is truly the most beautiful time of year at the Longji Rice Terraces! In the golden autumn of October, the rice in the terraces is ripe, covering the mountains and plains in gold. Layer upon layer, they wind from the foot of the mountain to the summit—it is truly breathtaking. The Longji Rice Terraces mainly consist of several scenic areas, each with its own unique features: · Jinkeng Dazhai Red Yao Terraces: The largest and most spectacular, with 3 viewing spots. Xishan Shaoyue is perfect for watching the sunrise, while Thousand-Layer Ladder and Panorama Building offer excellent views, perfect for taking stunning photos. · Ping'an Zhuang Village Terraces: The earliest developed and most classic, famous for the Nine Dragons and Five Tigers and Seven Stars with the Moon viewing spots. The lines are beautiful, making it suitable for a relaxing tour. · Ancient Zhuang Village Terraces: Relatively niche with fewer tourists, it is quieter and more rustic, perfect for those looking to avoid the crowds. Tips: · The best viewing period is generally from late September to mid-to-late October, before the rice harvest. · There is a large temperature difference between day and night in the mountains, so remember to bring a jacket. · If you stay overnight, the morning mist and the golden terraces illuminated by the sunrise are even more dreamlike than during the day. Staying at this homestay makes it very convenient to visit Jiulong Wuhu, the Ancient Zhuang Village, Seven Stars with the Moon, and Jinkeng. The homestay is great, and the stay was extremely comfortable.

Elephant Hill Scenic Area

The scenery was absolutely stunning. In the evening, we took a bamboo raft for a two-round cruise, enjoying the breeze – it was so relaxing! Trip.com made booking free tickets very convenient; other platforms require a mainland China phone number, which was inconvenient for me. Thumbs up! 👍

Longji Rice Terraces

I've been around China for already two weeks and this is by far the day trip I enjoyed the most. The view is fascinating, the trails around the terraces and beyond offers some captivating sceneries, especially if you decide to go away from the main terraces. Food is great also and the night illuminations are a wonder to behold.

Guilin Li River Scenic Area

The scenery is out of this world, with stunning karst mountains, calm waters, and lush greenery everywhere you look. It feels just like stepping into a traditional Chinese landscape painting. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Guilin!

Impression Sanjie Liu

One of a kind unmissable show situated in the Li river with natural karst mountains as the backdrop. Impressive display of group synchronisation, choreography, music and lights showcasing the culture of the region and directed by the same director behind the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. You will be wowed from the moment the show begins. Tickets easily redeemable at self service counters across the road.

Li River Four-star cruise ship

The travel agency upgraded us to a 5-star ship. The ship's interior was luxurious. The staff were polite and there were entertaining performances. Besides a complimentary buffet, there were also drinks and snacks available for purchase. We only received the travel agency's email around 7 PM on the day of our departure. For the 5-star ship, tickets don't need to be collected from the ticket machine. Staff at the pier's business department distribute them half an hour before departure. The exact location needs to be asked of the pier ticket staff. Overall, however, it was a very good trip and experience.

Silver Cave

Overall, Silver Cave is worth a visit, but the experience was somewhat underwhelming. I visited in the late evening hoping to avoid the crowds, but it was still quite busy. Combined with the high humidity inside the cave, the conditions made the visit somewhat uncomfortable, as I found myself sweating quite a bit. If you have visited similar caves before, I would consider Silver Cave skippable, as the experience may not offer anything particularly unique.
