The Grant Grill

We spent the night at the hotel as we were there for a birthday party and we breakfasted at the Grill. The Grill is quite dark - not what you want in the morning, but the booths are spacious and comfortable.

We loved this place! This historic hotel is gorgeous and well maintained. The dining room was very comfortable and we were pleased with the large teapot we were served at our table for our regular morning green tea. The Power Breakfast was perfect, and very flavorful and healthy. The Buttermilk Pancakes with fresh blueberries and citrus mascarpone topping were terrific, too. Can't wait to come back on our next trip to San Diego.

This was a great place for drinks/appetizers in the evening and the breakfast was awesome. We didn't have a full sit down dinner. Breakfast was excellent.

The building is beautiful. Fancy and reminiscent of an earlier era. We had a private room and the service was incredible. Friendly and attentive. A hard combination to find. Food was presented artfully and also tasty. Had the Romaine hearts salad and tenderloin with chanterelles. Both excellent.

We came for a family celebration. Place was beautiful and we got a nice round table, which is rare anymore, and was a pleasant surprise. But that was about it for the food news. We found the menu did not tempt us, so almost all of us got the filet. There were two sea bass dishes on the menu, that one was called Seabass, and the other was called "loup de mer" (french for seabass)... that was confusing ... Our steaks were a nice cut off meat, but quite forgettable. No seasoning. It was served on a teaspoon of celery root puree, with a few leaves of Brussels sprouts, and some wild mushrooms that really tasted odd. We all love mushrooms, but none of us enjoyed these. There were also some dots of some sweet dark sauce on the plate. Again, the meat was very tender and cooked well, just not worth anywhere near the price. Overall, a disappointing dining experience. Coffee was very good, though ... maybe a good place for breakfast, if they are open that early. .. :)
