South Seas Resort

Our daughter invited us to join their family for the Columbus Day weekend. Upon arrival, the room we had chosen was too small for us, and at 9:00 at night, Marisa found us a larger room and helped us move. We were too far from our family who were at the north end of the resort, so moved again the next day to be near them. Tatiana found us a lovely unit and gave us a discount on the upgrade charge. As to the resort, it’s much bigger than we realized, so we were glad we had rented a golf cart to get around. All 3 units we rented were clean and well appointed, but they are rentals so the kitchens don’t have more than utensils so keep that in mind when shopping. We used Instacart to get groceries from Publix delivered. They also have a small provisions store. Be aware, they do not provide daily maid service, you have to request it in advance. We didn’t need it, but it’s something others have commented about the lack of, so I’m mentioning it. The pool areas are great, we rented a cabana each day as we wanted a place to get out of the sun and for our youngest to nap. With the cabanas, they provide snacks and non alcoholic drinks, and someone comes around so you can order drinks and food from the Redfish grill which was delicious. The beaches: there has been an ongoing replenishment for quite awhile. The sand is not the sugar sand of the past, and when we were there, there were no shells to speak of. However, they have staff at the beaches (there are two - at the north and south ends of the resort) and they were great. Loungers, towels and umbrellas which they set up for you. We had a great time.

Dinner at newly opened Harborside. My wife and I went for dinner last night to celebrate our 10th anniversary having got married on the tip of Sunset beach in 2016. I have to say the restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and laid out, all the staff were welcoming friendly and polite. The view over the marina is absolutely stunning with manatees in the marina as we entered. Our waitress Lateavia was truly a wonderful lady so happy in her work and helpful at every point. The food was just a wow, whilst there are quite a few beachy type restaurants on Captiva there are little in the way of fine dining well you will be pleased to know it has arrived with the newly opened Harborside at South Seas a huge improvement I must say on the old one. The food was beautifully presented and the taste and quality truly outstanding.The portions are quite large but the quality is there, my wife had the wrack of lamb and said it was the best she ever had my ribeye was a wonderful quality piece of steak cooked to perfection. Well done all.

Great location, the Resort is under construction and some parts are very dated. 1. Yes these are first world problems. 2. Stayed in the 2600 buildings - Interior is dated, they don’t do room service or pick up garbage every day. You have to request and they send someone. 3. Internet did not work so they told us to connect to any room next to us…Water pressure is very weak… 4. Pool area is great for kids and families. Only 2 waiters for the entire pool the 5 days we were there. Just walk to the bar and order or else you might wait 40 minutes. 5. A LOT of birds by the pool (crows, seagulls) ready to pounce on your food. This means bird droppings around the pool and sometimes on you while you’re laying by the pool. 6. You probably need to rent a golf cart as it’s a big resort ~ $180/day. 7. We made the best of it as we went mostly for fishing and it’s a great area for that.
