MGM Grand Detroit Hotel and Casino

The staff were so friendly. It was our 6 year anniversary and we had to book this hotel after leaving an air bnb nightmare. We ended up in a beautiful room.

Nice room with great view. Had a cool shower. The house won 🥲

Left me bleeding and would not help! I hit my head on my closet door, bleeding for 20 min, I went to the front desk to get a band aid. They said go to security to get a band aid. Security said they could not help me until we filled out a report. I am bleeding in my head in their lobby. I told them that I had to leave for my meeting and my car was here. She told me that someone would be down in five minutes and then we could fill out the form and then she could give me a band aid. Wow-thanks for the help guys, went to my meeting with a bloody head. My meeting was with a very influential Private Equity firm in Detroit. The room was full of local businesses, I shared my story. Needless to say nobody in that room will be putting their clients up in the MGM going forward.

Nice place to stay if you are willing or of age to be up all night long. The rooms are well put together and our bed was comfortable. Staff is hit or miss but honestly you get that everywhere now so somewhat to be expected. But checking in and out and time for our room to be ready was on point. Hoping for a better future because we love MGM but I would not hold my breath.

​As a loyal Marriott Titanium Elite member with stays around the world, I chose the MGM Grand Detroit for a three-day local stay primarily for its location, dining options, and most importantly, the hot tub amenity. ​To my significant disappointment, the hot tub was non-operational for the entire duration of my three-day stay. I checked daily, and each time it was unavailable. This was a major letdown as it was a key reason for selecting this hotel for my temporary accommodation. ​Furthermore, the service regarding my elite status was unfavorable. When I called the front desk to request a standard late checkout, which is a core benefit for Titanium status, I was initially and instantly told it was not possible. After mentioning my status again, the associate was still adamant and even stated I would be charged $100 for the privilege. Only after I insisted that she check the policy was I granted a 2:00 PM checkout at no charge. While this was resolved, it was still a reduction from the typical 4:00 PM benefit I usually receive, and the initial resistance and incorrect information were extremely poor for a guest of my loyalty level. ​This was, unfortunately, the most unfavorable Marriott stay I have had, made worse by the fact that it was in my own hometown. While the location and restaurants were as expected, the lack of an operational key amenity and the unnecessary friction in securing a basic elite benefit severely marred the experience. The hotel needs to ensure its advertised amenities are functional and its staff is properly trained on recognizing and honoring elite loyalty benefits.
