With hundreds of resorts in Cancun, one might wonder what brings us back, time and again, to Finest. The answer is simple. Finest checks all of the boxes with what is expected of an all-inclusive resort. The resort and grounds are beautiful, with one of the most pristine beaches I have ever encountered, in Cancun, and elsewhere. With 11 restaurants serving various cuisines, your taste buds are taken on a culinary tour each night. They also have several bars to relax and enjoy cocktails at. But, what sets Finest apart from other resorts is the incredible staff that caters to your every need during your stay. This was our 30th visit to the resort, since it opened in 2015. Arriving at Finest always feels like coming home. From the first “welcome home” to the final “see you soon”, I am simply overwhelmed by the love and kindness encountered each and every day. The Excellence Club beach is our daily, 9-5 home, and the team there is second to none. Eduardo, Fernando, Angel, Pita, Riccardo, Carlos, Vick, Victor, Isabel, Cristian, and Cornelio are wonderful. They all have become part of our family, and we are so very blessed to spend our days with them. In the evenings, we spend our pre-dinner time between the Excellence Club Lounge, the Golden Bar, and Legends (when watching sports is on our agenda). Julio, Manuel, Luis, Alan, Gabriel, Wilberth, Ovidio, and Giovany are so much fun to spend time with, and they always mix up delicious cocktails that are often as beautiful as they are tasty. At dinner, we love to spend time with Andres, who is the best server around, and such a great person. He exudes joy, making every dining experience exceptional. Speaking of dinner, be sure to dine at Shoji, as Chef Nico is fabulous! Adrien, the general manager, took the time every day to say hello, and assure that our stay was perfect. Dalel, from Guest Services is a dear friend, who takes the time every day, to stop and chat, and help arrange any dinners for us. Getting to know her over the years has been a blessing, and she truly is the best. Stephany, also from Guest Relations, is an absolute doll. We shared many conversations, and laughs, with her on this visit. Javier, from the Food and Beverage team, is also wonderful. We look forward to his beach visits, and conversations. He arranged such a lovely lunch for us, on the beach, on our last full day. And then there is Munther, who is one of the kindest people I have ever met. Spending time with him is always one of the highlights of our visit. I am not sure how we ever got so lucky, to meet such amazing people, but I am thankful every day for their presence in my life. I am already planning my next trip, #31!

Steep Decline from Previous Visit Three years ago, Finest Playa Mujeres delivered an upscale experience that justified its premium pricing. This 11-night stay revealed a property in serious decline—undermaintained facilities, unreliable services, and management that deflects accountability rather than addressing problems. At $1,000 per night, guests should expect operational competence and basic security. We received neither. We approached each issue with patience and humor, smiling through the absurdity rather than escalating. We weren't looking to complain—we genuinely tried to roll with the problems. But the accumulated failures became impossible to overlook. Several hundred dollars in pesos disappeared from our in-room safe during our stay. We are meticulous about safe use and locking procedures. We discovered the theft on night five and reported it immediately. The hotel conducted an investigation analyzing key card records and safe access logs, which they claimed showed nothing irregular. We received investigation results the day before checkout—six days after reporting. No incident report was provided. Management offered a complimentary massage as resolution. Throughout discussions, staff responses consistently attempted to identify fault in our behavior. We had to remind them that even hypothetical guest error doesn't authorize theft. Our concern extended beyond the cash to the electronics stored in the safe and fundamental feeling of security in our room. The massage offer felt condescending given the severity of the breach and multi-day investigation. Management demonstrated no meaningful gesture indicating security is a priority. Tennis lessons were pre-scheduled Monday through Saturday. The instructor failed to appear twice. My wife arranged childcare around this schedule, wasting significant planning effort. When I inquired at the service desk, staff showed complete indifference to the no-show and offered no explanation, rescheduling, or compensation. The resort has nine restaurants. On multiple days, three to four closed concurrently. Remaining venues clearly operated below capacity, limited by insufficient service staff rather than physical space. We regularly faced 30-60 minute waits with hungry young children. Staff at multiple restaurants appeared severely overwhelmed. At Duke's, my wife arrived with our two children while I was scheduled for tennis. Their food took over 45 minutes to arrive after ordering. Multiple tables that arrived afterward received meals in approximately 20 minutes. Many parties seated long after them finished eating before our children's food appeared. This incident alone is minor, but exemplifies the service inconsistency that compounded throughout our stay. Similar timing failures occurred at other venues. Our room required renovation. Caulking and sealing around the shower and bathtub had deteriorated completely, separating from surfaces. The bathtub emitted a strong musty odor. Corners throu

The Finest Resort easily has the best beach we’ve experienced in Mexico, a wide stretch of soft, white sand that’s beautifully maintained. Having stayed at several Excellence properties before, we found the quality here just as impressive, with much of the same great food and service we’ve come to expect. The resort was quite busy over the Thanksgiving holiday, so there’s a little room for improvement when it comes to keeping the public restrooms and public common areas cleaner during peak times. The true highlight of our stay was Diana at the front desk — she went above and beyond to help us fix a reservation mistake we made. Her kindness and professionalism really stood out and made all the difference.
