Kimpton Taconic Hotel

Nice hotel. Service is good too. The mountain view from the room is nice and highly recommend.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that your view of a hotel is highly dependent on how much you pay for it. Well I think it's safe to saw we paid way too much for a very average hotel. It started well with a friendly welcome from the receptionist. Less well-received was the “welcome gift” which turned out to be two bottles of water, two boiled sweets and a map leaflet - all the sort of stuff you would usually find in the room. (And we didn’t get any water the second night even though we paid the same rate for both nights.) It didn’t make me feel special or valued I can tell you. You might have thought that given we probably paid far more than anyone else in the hotel (largely taken up with a convention of bridge players) they could have given us a better room,but we got the standard one I booked, which was literally smaller than the bathroom at the previous hotel we stayed at. The bathroom in this one was tiny and the shower was pathetically feeble. The hotel doesn’t have a gym, no breakfast was included and yet we had to pay an additional “resort fee” for the privilege of being able to park our car, the aforementioned welcome “gift” (laughable) and the one thing I thought was a nice perk - the free drink and popcorn at 5pm (although it was a struggle to find a good place to enjoy it what with the bridge players hogging the good seats in front of the fire.) The woman who checked us out was far less friendly than the one who checked us in but perhaps the most irritating thing of all were the prominent QR codes both at reception and on our bedside tables asking for tips. Well here’s a tip - pay your staff properly so we don’t have to. The hotel is not within walking distance (unless you like a long hike) of the main part of the town so there isn’t really any reason to stay here at all. Save your money and find somewhere better. I'm sure if you paid a sensible price then you'll think the hotel is fine. As for me - I feel so affronted at the rip off rates I doubt I’ll stay at a Kimpton ever again.

We stayed in this hotel three nights. The bedroom was smaller than some of the other hotels we stayed in during our trip but it was perfectly comfortable. The bathroom was excellent with good amenities. The bed was very comfortable. There was good car parking. Given the time of year (not the hotel’s fault!) the dining and bar facilities were in very high demand. As residents we initially had problems booking in to eat but everything worked out well in the end. Very friendly and helpful staff with excellent service.

Exceptionally nice experience all the way around. This 10-year old IHG-branded hotel feels brand new, is clean, and is staffed with friendly people. We loved its proximity to everything we wanted to see and do, we loved the comfort of the bed, and we loved the cleanliness of every feature of the hotel. We enjoyed a lunch and a breakfast in the hotel's dining room but not a dinner (wish we had because their wine list is especially well curated). Food is delicious and wait staff cordial and on top of their game. Shout out to Kristin for her particularly professional waitressing. Highly recommended; we'll be back for sure.

WE had an awesome time at the Taconic. Joe was super helpful with our luggage and getting it in and out of our car. He even gave us water for the ride home. I would highly recommend the Taconic as the rooms are beautiful and clean too. They came and changed our bed on a daily basis. WE had a handicapped room and it was so very spacious. The people at the Front Desk were super helpful in getting us to the right places. WE were there for a wedding at Hildene and it was spectacular. WE had the rehearsal party at the Taconic and it was just a beautiful setting. Everyone enjoyed it." Thank you so much for helping to make this weekend a very special time.
