Location: The hotel is situated in the picturesque garden district, providing easy access to tram rides and proximity to popular areas like Magazine Street and the French Quarter. It's away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to enjoy the attractions.(based on 1 review)

Great location at the garden district. Easy access to the tram ride.
Staffs were friendly. If you like the old new orleans flares this would be the perfect hotel for you
We had the suite. Beds were very comfortable. Extra living room was perfect.
Don't miss out on their amazing rooftop bar view.
However the hotel needs some remodeling.
Carpet is old, bathroom outlet isn't working. Bathroom overall needs update. Needs more light fixture. 1 elevator is not operating. Another one was down for half a day.

Lovely hotel with old world charm, rooftop bar, amazing night club with outstanding live music! Drinks, breakfast, food and service was wonderful! Aushante at the front desk was a sweetheart ready to help in any way. Javonna was lovely and full of great information, wonderful lady at the breakfast counter remembered my coffee every morning even when i did not! So sorry i didn't get her name but they were all so friendly and couldn't do enough to make you feel taken care of.

Do not book here, there is something wrong with management and overall service. I booked through Chase travel using points. However, I was then charged directly by the hotel after my checkout for $1200. Yes, twelve hundred dollars. For a room I already paid for. I called 3 times over 3 days and was completely ignored by 3 people. Pontchartrain could not even send me an email receipt for this "charge" as they could not even see what it was for. They could not even find the one glass of wine I charged to the room. They were clueless and indifferent. Completely unacceptable. What hotel cannot produce receipts to customers or view basic billing?? They also played the hang up game with Chase Travel over two days during Chase's investigation. This hotel is running a scam operation. I was also downgraded my room upon check in without being told while they handed me my key. After I saw that my room was not the King Suite that I booked and paid for, I asked why I was given the family room with two additional twin beds. They told me first, that they overbooked and upgraded other people (this was at 4pm right at check-in), and then that actually this was an "upgrade." Its wasn't. The room is cheaper nightly with less square footage. There was "nothing they could do" to give me the room that I actually booked a month in advance. They owe me money on this downgrade. Another scam. We asked to keep our bags in the lobby bag storage after checkout. Beware, this is a closet that is UNLOCKED (key stuck right in the door for anyone!) during the day, anyone can go in and grab what they want. No tags on anything. Front desk did not seem to mind. We are lucky our items were not grabbed by someone else. I was so looking forward to this stay but it was so pointless and frustrating, only to get a surprise charge for $1200 a couple days later. Please read the recent reviews for similar experiences. Do not book here. summary: fraudulent charges, fraudulent downgrade while charging the upgraded price, incompetent billing, no bag security.

We had stayed here before and it was a really cute boutique hotel. It has definitely been a while since our last stay and it doesn’t seem that it has been kept up. We checked in on a Thursday night and they gave us a room that didn’t have a key. We were told someone would get us a key but someone would let us in the room until then. Every time we went to the front desk to get the key, they didn’t have it. We woke up the next day and went to the front desk and the new person working had no clue we didn’t have a key. She told us after check out we would get a new room so we were still at their mercy to get into our room. Before we were moved we waited 30 minutes before someone let us in our room. Her excuse was she couldn’t get an elevator. Mind you I went to the front desk 4 different times in that same time period to see if she would call them again to let us in. There are too many nicer hotels in New Orleans to stay in this run down place and to be treated that way. I’ll spend my money elsewhere

We booked our stay at this hotel with the wedding party and expected much more from the reviews and prices. The hotel is rundown with some updates, but the updates were not done professionally - for example, large drips of black paint on the tiles - or completely - while the bathroom seemed new, the carpet looked 20 years old. Worse, as we booked months ago, we were given a room with glazed over windows that allowed in no light -- making it dark and dingy. The rooms were cleaned inconsistently, the floors not swept. The staff were not all professional - I would have given this a 3 star at best. The bar and restaurants were great - I wish the quality and service for the rooms had been the same. The valet was a great help getting me a cab to the hotel and the proximity to restaurants and the trolley were a real plus.

My wife and a friend recently stayed here. While the location, and lobby areas are pretty.. the room and service was a disaster. The room was never properly cleaned during the stay, bedroom doors were damaged and hanging off the hinges, towel racks were missing, the AC unit so loud they couldn't sleep. My credit card was charged for the stay even though it was prepaid (the charge was reversed when I called). Issues cant be addressed until “the manager arrives tomorrow”. This felt like a rundown hostel, not a full service hotel. I wouldnt pay more than $150 a night for it.

We were completely shocked by the discrepancy between the glowing reviews we read and the reality of our stay at Hotel Ponchatrain. This hotel came up in my search as a boutique hotel with a 4-star rating, and at $400 a night, we expected a far higher standard of comfort and service. If it hadn't been 11 pm when we arrived, we would have immediately found another place to stay. First, we were a little surprised by the minimal greeting upon arrival. Once checked in, we made our way to the elevator and through the hallways, which were dark and eerie. Entering our room only made things worse. The space was drab, tired, and worn. The paint on the walls was dingy, the walls and moldings coated with dust. The view from the windows was abysmal. We understood the hotel was going for a retro style, but we had no idea this meant old, broken-down furniture. The bedding was passable, but the decorative pillows were as faded and drab as the rest of the room. The carpet was old, frayed, and seemed filthy from age, and the bathroom was minimally updated. Almost nothing had been modernized—so much so that I had to search for an outlet to plug my phone in. The overall atmosphere was depressing. Adding to the confusion, the medicine cabinet display filled with old medication bottles and poisons left us unsettled. We tried to understand the atmosphere the hotel was trying to convey, but if any of the hotel information—or even reviews—had hinted at this, we might have been less shocked. Again, had there been any indication in the hotel description, we would have found a place that was a better fit for us. I’m sure there are travelers who have more appreciation for this vintage feel. As we checked out, another guest shared the same observations, making it clear that we weren’t alone in our experience.
