It was Mardi Gras week and the hotel was super busy. Pool was great though it’s a little small. Location was fantastic, right smack on bourbon street. They do lack basic amenities like in-room complimentary bottled water for a four star hotel. Desire restaurant has got great food and especially the oysters.
They are also a dog friendly hotel, but pet toilet was artificial grass / green carpet located at the basement carpark, which wasn’t very convenient and it smells bad.

I cannot say enough about the staff. Every year! Mr. Malcolm, Mr. Joe, Mr. Johnoy, Mr. Derek, Miss Ashley.. Always helpful. They know the meaning of service. If any of them were having a bad day, you'd never know it. Professional. Both for day and night krewe! Our checkout, plus valet, was so quick and efficient! Absolutely stellar!

We have stayed at the Royal Sonesta many times over the past 30 years, but our recent stay will not allow us to return. Formerly one of the Quarter’s best hotels, it has fallen into disrepair and has become a non-stop money grab. Some staff like Wade and Caleb were great, but the others seemed to not care about the changes. High priced drinks in the Jazz Lounge were small in size by NOLA standards. A $25 cover charge for seating during live performances was excessive. The elevators frequently were not in service. Perhaps the greatest disappointment was what the $113.00 they charged me to clean one small bag of laundry. Sadly, a hotel that we used to love has lost its luster, but they haven’t lost their desire to take your money at every turn.

Run from this horrible, bait and switch hotel. Super small rooms. Ruined our vacation. I spent hours researching places with a balcony. It was the only reason I selected this place. I arrived and my room was not a balcony. Had no view (brick wall five inches from window ). The service is horrible. The rooms are old and nasty. The room they gave us took forever to get to because it was so far in the interior. The tv and remote didn't work. The bottled water I the room was $8. They offered us a $50 discount on the room they switched us to but the room online was $120 a night less than that. The staff couldn't care less about anything. No hospitality skills at all.

Sitting poolside at the Royal Sonesta Where to start? Well, this is my third stay here and the only place I'll stay going forward . First visit was with Bestie and other two have been with Hubs. Every trip was great. The hotel is beautiful and our suites have been quiet, even though the hotel is right on Bourbon Street. Every employee we've encountered has been friendly, gracious, and helpful. One thing I really appreciate is as a non-drinker, I really appreciated the mocktails listing on the Jazz Playhouse menu. Side note - Brassaholics and The Nayo Jones Experience are both excellent and highly recommended shows. The Oasis Pool bartenders made me excellent virgin hurricanes and mojits. Last but definitely not least, shout out to Miss Ruthie at Desire. She's been there for 40+ years, embodies everything I love about the spirit of New Orleans and a key reason why it remains my favorite city. Southern charm and personality at its absolute finest!
