The hotel room is very small, unlike domestic hotels, and the price/performance ratio is very poor. The two white female front desk staff are ******. The room seems to be monitored. As long as a third person appears in the room during the day, we will soon be called to ask us to ask the third person to exit. Room!

It's a Relais & Châteaux hotel, but this was the only room available when I made the reservation. I didn't expect it to be so small. If you can afford it, book a larger one. It's comfortable to stay in and there's a Michelin restaurant downstairs.

We booked the lake house for one night and the spa lodge for 2 nights Loved both experiences The only negative thing about the lake house spa suite was the hot tub cover which really needed replacing but apart from that everything else was stunning we were given a warm welcome and the views and the facilities amazing Breakfast in room was a plus Then we moved onto the spa lodges for 2 nights again stunning Everything there that we needed Staff at brekfast were friendly and welcoming The spa was beautiful and I loved my treatment Only one downside really and that’s the service charge I think at the 2300 we paid for 3 nights was more than enough to pay and a service charge made me feel a little bit embrassed having to ask to remove it , I hadn’t been made aware this was added on booking But we will be back hopefully over Xmas

The newly refurbished restaurant is a fabulous space and a great place to eat. The food as ever was stunning and the service and attention to detail was exemplary. Still the best luxury Hotel in the Lakes and one of the finest restaurants. Can’t recommend it enough

Another lovely stay at the Gilpin. We have stayed a number of times and our room request was granted so we could experience another space. It seems that the owners have started on some much-needed upgrades and renovations however for the price point we did feel that some of the spa lodges (also noted on our visit in Feb 24) are a little lack-lustre and ageing; the sofa in our lodge was scratched and stained with a strange yellow, the speaker system did not work sufficiently, the outdoor lights were temperamental and the hot tub lights no longer functioned. At times during our 2 night stay this meant we were sat in the dark (as the hot tub cover blocked out the only working lights). Staff did come and look but could not fix the issue. That being said, the updated fires were easier to use and the Hardknott lodge did have working electric blinds. We enjoyed the food once again at breakfast as well as from Gilpin Spice and the staff were helpful and polite when we encountered them. We do love the Gilpin but we do think some speedier action is needed to remedy the quality of finish to the rooms to quantify the high price points.

Beautiful location, lovely rooms, and excellent food at two onsite restaurants, including Michelin-rated "Source". The staff is very attentive and seeks to meet your every need.
