Majeka House

Very nice hotel.

I think some travellers have been rather harsh in their reviews of Majeka house. We very much enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is in a quiet residential area and yes you do need a taxi or uber to go to restaurants but they cost next to nothing and are very reliable. The staff are absolutely lovely and all welcome you with a smile and a desire to help and make your stay a happy one. Breakfast service was very good as was the food. We only stayed 2 nights and ate in on the first and enjoyed what we had, yes the menu is limited, but to quote Gordon Ramsey offer less but do it well. We didn’t try the pool or spa but the areas looked clean and tidy as did the garden and sun beds which were all laid out daily with fresh towels. Our room was clean and comfortable with a good sized bathroom where everything worked as it should. There is always room for improvement and our suggestions would be - Change the doors to the bedrooms, the present ones look old and tired and don’t create a good impression. Improve the lighting in the bedrooms, there’s mood lighting and there’s struggling to read stuff lighting. Get some air fresheners in the lounge/ bar area, it smelt rather musty in there and that’s not very welcoming. Some of the curtains in the bedroom needed repairing, again not a major thing but just something that will make the place tidier. We would certainly stay here again.

I cannot recommend this place. Rooms and common areas are very tired and in need of renovation. Staff basically lied to us saying dinner was available at 7pm then later told us that they let the chef go for the evening? Really? Just tell us your restaurant isn't open rather lie to us. Avoid this place.

Previous reviews vary and it is fair to say the property is fairly dated and could do with some work, HOWEVER, the charm of the property and the exceptional service make up for this and more. We are well travelled and have stayed in some exceptional hotels around the world but the friendliness and especially the service was as good as any. After booking our three night stay, i asked if they could book a nice restaurant for our first night and albeit a busy friday they booked a table at the fat butcher which was excellent. They also provisionally booked restaurants for our other two nights, as a fallback. They recommended and then booked for us a superb private wine tasting with lunch. Although it is not particularly central in Stellenbosh, we found Uber no problem and cheap, except on one occasion when we found it difficult, however after a call from the restaurant, the hotel picked us up at no charge.. Even at breafast when i asked for something they didnt have, without asking someone went to the local shop and got it for me.. As I said,, the service was excellent. A really nice experience, the hotel itself not 5 star,, however the service was more than that and we would have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending it.. Be aware of a couple of things to avoid being disappointed. - the property is a taxi ride from the centre of Stellenbosch. - only certain rooms have a private outside pool, the remaining have use of the large indoor/outdoor pool. - the restaurant is no longer open in the evening. As long as you know when you're booking you should have a very enjoyable stay. Thanks guys.

DO NOT BOOK HERE ! They take your deposit and wont give it back even if you cancel well in advance of the time. I've called 20x times and no one is willing to deal with it. In addition, emails go unanswered. Terrible customer service, really recommend you to stay away from this place.
