Santa Rita Hotel del Arte

i love my stay here. Everything is excellent.

We stayed in one of the suites (room 107), which had a sitting area with TV, bed area with a second TV, large bathroom with shower and jetted tub, and a tiny balcony where you could step out to view the historic cathedral a block away. The room was clean and everything was in working order. The large tub was a real treat for a nice soak. There's a closet next to the bathroom and convenient mini-fridge and coffee maker. A safe was available, but we never figured out how to use it. Bathroom had toiletries and included such nice items as shoeshine cloth, shower cap, nail file, toothbrush and toothpaste. There's a hair dryer, bath scale, plus robes and slippers if you need them. Comfy bedding with several pillows. Bed is one of those tall models that require short people to roll into since it's too high to sit on. Lots of tables and two desks with chairs. Even though it's Mexico, there are some cable channels in English for those who want them. Lots of electrical outlets and some USB ports are available to charge devices. Light switches are available by the room door as well as next to the bed (you need to use your room key to apply power, so everything switches off when you leave and take your key). There's even an Alexa device, although we never got the one in our room to function. WiFi worked fine. We go to bed early and were concerned when we laid down that sleep would be impossible with road noise, party sounds from other guests, and church bells from the nearby cathedral, but everything magically quieted down around 10 pm, so sleep was fine. With window shutters closed, the room was VERY dark, so bring along a couple of night lights or flashlight... it's quite a walk from the bed to the toilet at night and neither of us made the trip without bumping into things. The room included a full breakfast at the on-site restaurant, which runs from 7am until 11 or noon (I don't recall). You can select from any entre on the menu, plus get a beverage, sweet bread, and some fruit. The Santa Rita eggs are excellent! One disadvantage is the entrance, which requires a climb up some curvy steps to the check-in desk. I didn't see any option for entry if you're mobility challenged, so ask before booking if you have trouble climbing a flight of stairs. Friendly hotel desk staff spoke very good English, so we had no communication barrier. Restaurant menu is also available in English. There are lots of restaurants in the area, including a very nice one right across the street. Also many places to shop, get snacks, a pharmacy, and several little museums within a couple of blocks... very walkable. We took UBER rides a couple times from the hotel to a restaurant ($40 pesos) and the bus station ($60 pesos), so it's very affordable to get around. Hotel staff offered to help us book tours as well, if you're interested. Overall a very nice spot for exploring the city. Disappointing Room and Guest Services Room service was poor, and when we requested assistance with a taxi, we were told to walk to the corner of the street and wait for one ourselves, rather than having staff call one for us. This lack of support was frustrating and not what we expected from the hotel.

The hotel’s art theme was refreshing, along with great books in the room - which made rest time enjoyable! Amazing location in the city and extremely warm & attentive staff. Will most likely book for future travel to Zacatecas.
