Although it was old, the rooms were clean, there was an iPad that could be used freely, there were many extra outlets and USB ports, a new hand washing area had been added, and other features were designed to make the stay comfortable. During meals, the hostess went around to each table to greet the guests. That was also nice. The bath water quality was good, and the open-air bath was also extremely comfortable. #summervacay Kitsune no Ashiato, within walking distance from Yuda Onsen JR station, is another gem in this area. We paid ¥200 for the footpath, which included towel disposal. We also got to wear traditional kimonos for free, which added to the experience. We wore them during our foot bath session, and it was a lovely touch. We ordered a set menu consisting of coffee, pudding, etc. – the coffee was a fox-themed drink, which was iconic of Yuda Onsen and so cute. Everything was delicious. There's an indoor and outdoor footpath area, and we tried both. We had dessert at the indoor footpath and then went outdoors. Your feet will feel very smooth after the bath. It's a unique experience, and the price is cheap. #summervacay Must-try in Yamaguchi: Kawara Soba! We took the advantage of the ¥1,500 coupon for Choshuya Yudaten Restaurant offered by the Yamaguchi Fun Pass. The restaurant is conveniently located within 8-10 minutes' walk from JR Station. However, the atmosphere was marred by a strong smoke smell that permeated the entire shop. We tried the kawara soba, beef rice, and Yamaguchi fugu (pufferfish). Except for the beef rice, everything was delicious. The kawara soba was a highlight – the noodles were crunchy, and the experience of dipping them into the dashi bowl was unique and memorable. The beer was also very nice. We were required to order a drink for each of us with our meal. Please note that this restaurant only allowed one coupon per group bill. Average per person around ¥2,000 with the coupon. Overall, I'd rate this shop 3.5 out of 5, with the smoke smell being a major drawback. #summervacay Hotel Route Inn Yamaguchi at Yuda Onsen is perfectly situated for exploring Yamaguchi. While it's about 15 minutes' walk from the station (or a 5-minute taxi ride for around ¥800), the location is ideal for those traveling by car. The staff are friendly, although they speak limited English, so we relied on a translator. The hotel is within walking distance (about 8 minutes) to nearby restaurants for dinner, and there's a Seven-Eleven and FamilyMart nearby for convenience. The rooms are slightly larger than standard Japanese hotel rooms, with a comfortable sofa chair and a soft, cozy bed. We enjoyed the relaxing hot spring facilities. While the breakfast was just okay, we didn't mind given the affordable price and the fact that it was included. A bonus is that the staff can arrange taxis to JR Station. Without luggage, it's lovely to stroll around the town and take in the atmosphere. Overall, I give the hotel 4 out of 5 stars, deducting one star for the location being a bit far from the station. #summervacay After visiting Rurikiji Temple, we stopped by Choshuen, a charming souvenir shop and cafe nearby. Having already sampled the Yamaguchi Kawara Soba at Yuda Onsen, we used our Yamaguchi Fun Pass coupons to try their specialty 'ouchi-ningyo yaki' – adorable traditional Japanese confections shaped like dolls and filled with sweet red bean paste. These dolls are iconic in Yamaguchi, and you can even spot an ouchi-ningyo doll in front of Yamaguchi Station. We also enjoyed tempura, ice cream, and matcha tea – everything was delicious! #summervacay We visited Rurikiji Temple, famous for its stunning five-storied pagoda, a National Treasure located in Yamaguchi. Although it's not a super popular spot, our stay at Yuda Onsen gave us the perfect opportunity to stop by. We took the JR Yamaguchi Line to Yamaguchi Station and then hopped on the Bocho bus to Yamaguchi Kencho-mae. Admission was free, and we were thrilled to find the temple relatively uncrowded, allowing us to take plenty of great photos. We purified ourselves before entering the temple, following the local customs. The nearby Kozen Park was absolute bliss – serene and beautiful. Strolling through the park was incredibly refreshing and calming. We made a special trip to Ichiba Shokudo Maguro to Kame, located inside Karato Fish Market, just to try the region’s famed fugu (blowfish) — a must-try delicacy in Yamaguchi. When we arrived, there was already a line forming outside, a good sign of its popularity. We wrote our names on the waitlist and were seated within 15 minutes. The queue moved fast and the staff were very organized. We ordered a blowfish sashimi set and deep-fried fugu, both prepared fresh. The sashimi was delicately sliced, with that signature translucent look, and had a clean, subtle sweetness. The fried version was surprisingly tender with a crispy outer layer — really tasty and easy to enjoy even if it’s your first time trying fugu. Despite the language barrier, the service was warm and accommodating. The staff patiently guided us through the ordering process and made us feel very welcome. One of the highlights? The view! The restaurant has large windows that look out toward the water — a great bonus to accompany a delicious and unique meal. The Sabagawa River flows through Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture There, the traditional "Sabagawa Koinagashi" is held every year during Golden Week to coincide with Children's Day. Normal carp streamers swim in the sky, but the carp streamers in Hofu, Yamaguchi, swim in the river. Carp streamers that swim in the river are quite rare nationwide. The sight of over 120 carp streamers donated by local people swimming gracefully in the river is a spectacular sight! When I went on a trip to Yamaguchi, I got off the Shinkansen at Shin-Yamaguchi Station, and was looking for a place to have lunch nearby when I found a soba restaurant just a few minutes' walk from the local train exit❗️ I was lucky enough to get in right away, but more and more customers came in afterwards, and it quickly filled up😳 It seemed very popular. The restaurant has a long-established feel, and the interior has a Showa-era feel to it, which is somehow relaxing 🥰 ▶︎Five-tiered upper bowl: 1,425 yen ▶︎Inari (one piece): 75 yen ▶︎Strawberry Daifuku: 180 yen ▶︎Sakura Mochi: 140 yen ▶︎Uguisu Mochi: 140 yen The soba is pitch black country soba 😳 It is 100% buckwheat, and rather than being easy to swallow, you can feel the original fragrant flavor of the soba, and it is chewy so it is satisfying to eat 😋 The five-tiered upper bowl does not have five types, but three: tempura, grated yam, and seaweed. It also has grated maple leaves and green onions, so you can change the flavor as you eat, and I never got bored of it.
