Park Hyatt Beijing: A Fusion of Old and New

Hotel renovations are challenging—too extensive, and the original charm is lost; too minimal, and guests may feel nothing has changed. Park Hyatt Beijing strikes the perfect balance between tradition and modernity. The story of Park Hyatt Beijing began in 2008 as the first Park Hyatt in Greater China. Located in Beijing Yintai Centre, its 67 floors set a new height standard for luxury hotels in the capital. In 2018, a renovation project commenced, led by Singapore’s LTW Designworks and Canada’s 2pi rdesign, and was completed in 2019. The revamped Park Hyatt transitioned from a serene Japanese aesthetic to a more sophisticated neo-Chinese style. Upon entering the 63rd-floor lobby, the "Memories of Jiangnan" sculpture has been rotated 90 degrees and placed before a grand crane mural, echoing the poetic essence of Tang Dynasty poet Qian Qi’s verse: "The music ends, the crowd disperses, leaving only green peaks by the river." The guest rooms exemplify neo-Chinese aesthetics, blending Park Hyatt’s minimalist elegance with Beijing’s warmth. A soothing palette of beige, soft green, and light gray complements warm wood textures. Linen-upholstered sofas add a homely touch, while the open-concept bathroom and square bathtub retain a Japanese onsen vibe. Hidden Tang Dynasty figurines whisper tales of Eastern artistry. China Grill remains a pinnacle of Beijing’s high-altitude dining, boasting a 10-meter glass pyramid ceiling, bamboo-lined streams, and 360-degree CBD views. Breakfast is semi-buffet, featuring local specialties like Niujie set and Old Beijing set. Opened in 2019, Jin Ting adopts a soft beige tone, preserving classics like Peking duck and signature Wagyu beef noodles while innovating with Western-style light meals. The iconic China Bar, designed by Remedios Siembieda (creators of Tokyo’s Grand Hyatt), dazzles with Chinese wooden screens and a jade bar, embodying Eastern tradition. The executive lounge offers afternoon tea and evening light bites, paired with breathtaking cityscapes. The 25-meter indoor heated pool, enveloped in bamboo, is Beijing’s earliest high-altitude pool, flanked by Jacuzzis for a blissful cloud-top swim.
