Hassan II Mosque – Casablanca, Morocco

Visiting the Hassan II Mosque was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my trip to Casablanca. This architectural masterpiece stands proudly on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, blending tradition and modernity in the most majestic way. The first thing that takes your breath away is the sheer size of the mosque. With the tallest minaret in the world (210 metres), the building dominates the Casablanca skyline. The intricate Moroccan craftsmanship is visible in every corner—mosaic tiles, carved marble, and wooden details all harmoniously come together to form a stunning visual experience. One of the most impressive features is that part of the mosque is built directly over the ocean, symbolising God’s throne on the water. The sound of the waves beneath adds to the peaceful and spiritual ambiance, especially during quiet moments of reflection. The mosque is also a symbol of technological innovation. It features a retractable roof, heated floors, and even earthquake resistance—all cleverly integrated into its traditional aesthetic. Non-Muslims are welcome to join guided tours, which I highly recommend. The tour was informative, respectful, and provided great insight into Moroccan culture, Islamic architecture, and the mosque’s history. #casablanca #hassaniimosque
