I Love Mentaiko at Grill Manten-Boshi

Among Japanese cuisine, aside from sashimi, mentaiko is one of my favorite delicacies! Its salty and savory flavor enhances any dish, and tonight, I specifically went to indulge in Japanese-style Western cuisine featuring mentaiko. This evening, I went with my dad to Grill Manten-Boshi, a super popular Japanese omurice specialty restaurant from Tokyo. They recently launched new mentaiko dishes, and as a mentaiko fan, I had to be among the first to try them. For drinks, my dad chose the Blueberry Cheesecake Milkshake ($78)! It had an incredibly smooth texture with a rich blueberry cheesecake flavor. The large serving, topped with creamy whipped cream, was already quite filling. I opted for the refreshing Kyoho Grape Yogurt Soda ($58)! Its sweet and tangy taste, combined with the fizzy soda, was incredibly thirst-quenching. The addition of fresh berries made it even more appealing. The Corn and Mushroom Soup ($58) was exceptionally thick and flavorful, with plenty of fresh mushrooms and corn kernels. It’s perfect for those who enjoy rich soups. The Avocado and Shrimp Caesar Salad ($128) was generously portioned, enough for the two of us to share. The fresh salad greens were crisp and delicious, paired with plump, bouncy shrimp and creamy avocado, creating a delightful and refreshing taste. The Ultra-Rich Torched Mentaiko Spaghetti ($158) was a standout! The sauce, made with vegetables and mentaiko, was incredibly rich and flavorful. The spaghetti was cooked to perfection, with a texture that held the sauce well. Topped with torched mentaiko slices and salmon roe, it was absolutely irresistible. The Torched Mentaiko Omurice ($148) featured torched mentaiko slices resting on fluffy scrambled eggs. Beneath was Japanese Nanatsuboshi rice cooked in a rich house-made broth, drizzled with a generous mentaiko sauce. The presentation alone was mouthwatering. Breaking into the scrambled eggs revealed a runny, creamy center with mozzarella cheese, which was incredibly tempting. Mixing the mentaiko, eggs, and rice together created a smooth, sweet, and savory multi-layered flavor that was truly memorable. For dessert, we chose two to share! The Maple Butter Soufflé Pancakes ($128) emitted a sweet maple aroma upon serving, which was highly enticing. Before tasting, we poured the accompanying maple syrup over the pancakes. The soufflé pancakes were airy, soft, and rich in egg flavor, paired with pecans, light unsweetened cream, and maple butter for an out-of-this-world taste. Lastly, we had the seasonal Japanese White Peach Parfait ($138), filled with smooth, sweet white peach chunks and creamy soft-serve ice cream, creating a rich and delightful dessert.
