Former Bishop Hill Water Supply Shelter in Sham Shui Po

The former Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir, also known as the Sham Shui Po Bishop Hill Service Reservoir, was a waterworks structure completed in 1902, supplying drinking water to residents in the Kowloon Tong/Sham Shui Po/Tai Hang Tung areas. With the opening of the Shek Kip Mei Service Reservoir in 1970, the former service reservoir ceased operation. Time stood still at that moment. The service reservoir escaped demolition in 2020 and was designated a Grade 1 historic building in June 2021, opening to the public on a limited basis. The ancient Roman arch design, granite columns, and red brick arches are reminiscent of the Roman Baths in Bath, England. Combined with the natural light and the lighting inside, the building exudes a majestic atmosphere, making it a must-see. Descending along Berwick Street, the historic architecture of St. Francis of Assisi English Primary School at the foot of the hill is also eye-catching. Note: 1. Guided tours require reservations on the Water Supplies Department's website. The guided tours include a guide and a souvenir after the visit, but they fill up quickly. 2. You can enter the venue without a reservation, but you'll need to queue outside on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are no guided tours.
