Albufeira | Portugal's Hidden Blue-Green Paradise

| Portugal's Hidden Blue-Green Paradise. Heading south from Évora, you'll reach Albufeira, the "Coastal Gem" of southern Portugal. While it may lack deep historical roots, it makes up for it with breathtaking blues—sapphire seas and emerald caves, offering healing ocean views at every turn, perfect for a dreamy getaway! Location: Albufeira, Portugal, in the Algarve region, about 280 km from Lisbon. 🌊 Benagil Cave Opening Hours: The cave is open all day, but boat tours operate from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (summer) and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (winter). Tide-dependent; check suitable times in advance. Highlights: Named one of the "World's Most Beautiful Sea Caves" by National Geographic! The cave features a natural arched "skylight" where sunlight pours in, refracting into mesmerizing blue-green gradients on the water—like God spilled a paint palette. The cave walls, polished smooth by waves, occasionally host seagulls flying past the skylight, making every shot desktop-worthy. Photo Spots: When the boat enters the cave center, stand at the bow with the skylight and water as your backdrop, letting sunlight hit your profile for a divine vibe. If kayaking, pause at the cave's edge for a "floating in a painting" shot, with paddles and kayak adding narrative depth. 🌊 Praia da Marinha (Marinha Beach) Opening Hours: Open all day, especially stunning at sunset. Highlights: The Algarve coast's "poster child"! Nestled among jagged golden cliffs, the beach boasts powder-soft sand and layered blue waters—transparent turquoise near shore deepening to indigo offshore. Wave-carved "stone windows" frame picturesque ocean views. Explore rock pools at low tide or watch crashing waves at high tide. Photo Spots: Don’t miss the iconic "stone arch"—pose inside it with the sea and sky as your backdrop for a sweeping coastline shot. At dusk, capture slow-motion waves lapping rocks, creating milky swirls. 📌 Tips: For Benagil Cave, choose boat tours that enter the cave (not just distant views). Peak-season queues are worth it for that magical sunlight moment. Marinha Beach rocks are slippery, especially at high tide—avoid climbing hazardous areas. Safety first! Summer (June-August) is crowded. Visit in May or September for fewer crowds, pleasant weather, and equally stunning views.

#2023travelwish #tripblazers #portugal This year's trip to Algarve Portugal was beautiful. Portugal's southern coastal region really surpised me how different it was to the capital. Having only one airport in the region we found it easy to travel from the Faro airport city to our final destination in Lagos- a 2hour train journey but it was well worth it! We went there for the relaxed vibe. We visited the famous Benegil cave and Carvoeiro town with lovely colourful hours. We did a crazy thing and walked 4 hours from one town to another taking the route along the cliff edges in flip flops! Highly recommend visiting there it was one of our highlights as well as Portimao's beautiful beach. Next year 2023 I hope to visit Kyoto, Japan again as it has been a while since I went to Asia as of Covid!
