#summervacay Lake Como is undeniably beautiful, but our day trip ended with a major headache that you should definitely avoid! Who knew a bus strike and no available taxis would leave us stranded in Varenna until 5 AM the next morning, waiting for the first bus back? I've since seen on Xiaohongshu that this is a common issue, so for anyone planning a trip: DO NOT book the last bus for your return journey! Despite the travel mishap, Lake Como's beauty truly lived up to its reputation. Here's how our day went: Transportation 🚆🚌 Currently, direct trains are under maintenance, so from Milan Central Station, you'll take a train to Lecco, then transfer to a bus that takes you directly to Varenna. We bought our tickets online as a package (no need to buy separate train and bus tickets), and the journey took about 1.5 to 2 hours. Exploring Varenna 🏞️ Lake Como has several charming towns, but after some research, Varenna and Bellagio seemed to be the most recommended. We had planned to take a ferry to Bellagio, but the queue was incredibly long, and it was scorching hot, so we decided against it. We ended up staying in Varenna, and honestly, it was absolutely stunning on its own.
