Moganshan, a serene hidden place in Huzhou

Huzhou, Moganshan, a prosperous and elegant hidden retreat in Jiangnan. In 1890, American missionaries discovered the area and began building summer villas, gradually attracting foreigners to construct homes and high-ranking officials to spend their summers. There are over 200 villas from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China era still standing, earning it the nickname "World Architecture Museum," similar to Lushan. Notable villas include the place where Mao Zedong stayed, the Chiang-Song official residence, and villas of famous figures like Zhang Jingjiang and Du Yuesheng. Although many villas have now been converted into guesthouses or closed off, they still retain their original charm. Sunlight filters through the tall cedar forests, lazily casting shadows on the rough brick walls, with swaying tree shadows and the passage of time lingering gently.
