Sapporo Suwa Shrine

#SeptemberDestinations2025 This Suwa Shrine in Sapporo has become an internet sensation thanks to its Sanrio amulets, including Sanrio goshuin during the New Year period. The shrine itself is quite small, but to suit the season, behind the torii gates are decorated with colorful umbrellas, yellow and blue windmills, and a few wind chimes. The wind makes the windmills spin like blossoms, and the chimes resonate and melodiously, creating a dazzling atmosphere. In front of the shrine steps, a large circular ring made of special plants is woven. It's said that circling it in the reverse order of the Arabic numeral 8 wards off misfortune and prays for peace. There are benches near the entrance, perfect for a rest if you're not in a hurry. The amulet shop boasts a dazzling array of designs, making it easy to find something beautiful and unique. They also offer adorable Sanrio amulets.
