Recommended Attractions Hakodate Must-See: Mt. Hakodate Observation Deck & Mount Hakodate For Hokkaido's most famous night view, a visit to Mt. Hakodate is a must! Although it was lightly rainy that day, standing at the observation deck, you'll be treated to a breathtaking view of Hakodate City, a dazzling array of lights and layers of beauty – a truly captivating experience, rain or shine. Tip: The wind can be strong at the top, so be sure to bring a jacket. The observation deck is open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it a great place to hike before dusk and experience the romance of Hokkaido as night falls. Address: Hakodateyama, Hakodate, Hokkaido 040-0000, Japan Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse The Red Brick Warehouse area is a popular shopping district, perfect for soaking up the hipster vibe or savoring seafood, desserts, and snacks. It's a great place to escape the weather, whether during the day or on a rainy day, and there are also a variety of unique shops worth exploring. Goryokaku Tower A surprise awaits at the top of the tower at sunset! Don't worry if it rains; the tower offers an indoor observation deck and exhibitions for shelter and photo opportunities, along with a unique 360-degree view of the star-shaped castle. Otaru Recommendation: Otaru Canal Boat LLC Otaru's greatest charm lies in its historic canals. A canal cruise is highly recommended, offering unique beauty in every weather. Rainy days offer a more nostalgic feel, and the reflections on the water are particularly captivating. Address: Otaru, Minatomachi 047-0007, Japan Opening Hours: 9:30 AM - 8:00 PM Sapporo's Secret Art Corner: Daibutsu (Head Buddha) and Moai Statue This popular spot in Minami Ward offers a chance to experience modern Japanese sculpture and capture stunning, artistic photos. Spring and summer are especially recommended, as the flower fields surrounding the statue create a breathtaking atmosphere. Daibutsu (Head Buddha) is open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM from April to October, and from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM from winter (November to March). The Moai Statue is located at the same location, making it convenient for visitors. The lakeside view was truly soothing, with a direct view of the lake and mountains from our room windows. Even when it rained, the onsen was especially warm and comfortable, making it the perfect way to end our trip. Practical Transportation & Food Recommendations [Transportation Combinations] We recommend alternating between JR trains and driving between cities. From Hakodate to Sapporo, we recommend the JR Hokkaido Shinkansen, which is fast and reliable. Trains run frequently between Otaru and Sapporo, making travel convenient and weather-resistant. Driving in Toyako Town offers more flexibility, allowing you to plan your own rest time. [Food Recommendations] Don't miss the seafood donburi and milk ice cream in the Hakodate Red Brick Warehouse area. In Otaru, you must try LeTAO cheesecake. Toyako Town hotels offer a Japanese hot spring course dinner, which is incredibly relaxing. [Tips] 1. On cloudy or rainy days, remember to bring a raincoat and walking shoes, as some attractions require extensive walking. 2. Hokkaido has a significant temperature difference between morning and evening, so bring a warm jacket even in the summer. 3. Insider tip: It’s way more than just a dairy farm—Lake Hill Farm is famous for their ultra-fresh soft-serve ice cream and totally cute homemade sweets. The vibe?
