Yakushima's Blue Sea! Nagata Inakahama

Yakushima is famous for its Jomon Cedar, but its sea is also incredibly beautiful. Nagata Inakahama is renowned as Japan's top sea turtle nesting site and is registered under the Ramsar Convention as a precious wetland. A commemorative statue for this registration has been placed there. The sandy beach stretches for about one kilometer. Sea turtle observation events are held here. If you visit during the right season, you might be able to encounter sea turtles on this beach. Yakushima is quite close, with flights from Kagoshima taking only about 35 minutes. There are a decent number of flight options available. Renting a car locally is highly recommended.
