It’s only 2 kilometers from the scenic area, and you’ll be greeted by endless grasslands right outside the door. The entire trip offered both breathtaking grand landscapes and a relaxed pace, making it a journey of physical and mental relaxation, visual splendor, and strong family engagement. ✈️ Flight Experience: Both outbound and return flights were with Air China, from Beijing to Yining with a stopover in Korla. However, for unknown reasons, the stopover was changed to a direct flight just before departure, but delays of varying degrees still occurred. The outbound flight landed 2 hours later than scheduled, arriving at 17:30. Fortunately, the sunset in Xinjiang is late, allowing us to complete some shopping and a quick stroll; The return flight was delayed by 7 hours, arriving in Beijing at 1:30 AM. It is recommended to allow ample time when traveling during peak season. With this flight change, Trip.com automatically rebooked a more reasonable flight and confirmed it via phone, so overall, it didn't significantly impact the itinerary. ✅ Overall Itinerary: D1: Arrived in Yining, strolled around Liuxing Street. Yizhao Highway: Exited from Sayram Lake South Gate via Wild Wolf Valley to Tekes. The scenery along the way was picturesque, and traffic was light, offering a far superior experience compared to conventional routes. Kalajun: The grassland is vast, and the horseback riding and ATV off-road experiences were good. The scenic area's operations are relatively mature, making it suitable for families visiting Xinjiang grasslands for the first time. Kansu Gully: Unpaved road. Although the experience was not as stunning as the core grassland areas, it's worth exploring for light off-roading. Nalati: Drove into the grassland plateau, away from the crowds, with ethereal scenery. Panlong Valley Road and the flower seas along the way were unrealistically beautiful, representing the hidden gems of the Nalati area. Duku + Tangbula + Mengket: Connecting Duku Highway, Baili Hualang (Hundred-Mile Gallery), and Mengket Ancient Trail in one day was the most tiring but most worthwhile day. From magnificent to picturesque to grand, the styles varied, and Mengket Ancient Trail, in particular, was more stunning than imagined. 🏕️ Accommodation Experience: In Yining and Tekes, we chose Hanting Hotels, both very close to the central areas, primarily for rest and shopping. It's recommended to choose 1-2 standard hotels for rest during transit on the road; Saihu Chaoke Stargazing Camp was comfortable, with an excellent location and beautiful scenery, very close to Sayram Lake East Gate, also offering distant views of Sayram Lake; Muye Stargazing Camp had a good location, making it a relatively good choice for a 2-day lake-circling itinerary. However, as it's within the scenic area and only offers tents for accommodation, the facilities were relatively basic; Nalati offers a wide range of accommodation options. Homestays with courtyards are recommended for a more authentic local feel. 🍴 Food Experience: Dining is recommended in Huocheng, Kansu Town, Tekes, and Yining Old City small eateries. However, in comparison, Xinjiang's scenery feels softer and more expansive, lacking the 'stunning' impact and the vast, oppressive feeling of the plateau that Tibet delivers. Xinjiang is like an unfolding scroll, suitable for immersive slow travel; while Tibet is like a series of monuments that instantly shock the soul, each with its own merits and lingering impressions.

The name "Wild Wolf Valley" might initially sound like a dangerous place, but in reality, it’s a soothing grassland reminiscent of a Windows wallpaper. Located at the foot of Baishi Peak, the main summit of the Wusun Mountains in Zhaosu, Wild Wolf Valley used to be frequented by wolf packs in the past. Nowadays, it has become a spring and autumn pasture for local herders. With over 10 large and small canyons and nearly a million acres of natural highland grasslands extending into the valleys, the area is surrounded by mountain peaks on all sides, making it a completely open and free destination despite the absence of snow-capped mountains. Most travel groups are unlikely to visit this place, so you won’t have to queue for shuttle buses during peak seasons. The fact that the entire scenic area doesn’t require shuttle buses is a rare treat that seasoned Xinjiang travelers will appreciate! Wild Wolf Valley doesn’t have fixed attractions, allowing visitors to freely run across the grasslands, enjoy leisurely camping, or experience horseback riding in the area. Notably, due to the low number of visitors, the horseback riding experience here is exceptional. 📍Location: Shata Ancient Trail National Forest Park, Zhaosu County, Ili, Xinjiang 🏠Accommodation: It is recommended to stay in Shata Township, which is very close to the park entrance, convenient for entering right at 9 AM when the park opens 🕜Visiting Time: It is recommended to reserve a whole day. In the afternoon, Shata often has overcast skies and rain, so it is best to enter the park in the morning and leave when the weather changes 👣About the Routes: 👉🏻Take the shuttle bus into the park; it stops at the Quicksand Waterfall but you can stay on the bus and get off at the final stop, the Hot Spring Hotel. Walk 100 meters forward along the road and transfer to an electric cart. Some electric carts have no doors and can be cold early in the morning, so bring a jacket. 👉🏻The first stop by electric cart is Zhuanyun Bridge, the second is General Bridge. You can get off or take the return cart at either stop, choosing based on the scenic spots and distances described below. 👉🏻Walking from Zhuanyun Bridge to General Bridge is not far, about half an hour. Here you can see snow-capped mountains, rivers, and pine forests, as shown in photos p2 and p3. 👉🏻After getting off at General Bridge, walk inward less than to House No.1 Kala. On the left, there is a fallen dead tree for photos, as in p4; on the right, you can see snow mountains, as in p5, p6, and p7. 👉🏻The distance from General Bridge to House No.1 Kala is 500 meters; from House No.1 to No.2 is 1 km; from No.2 to No.3 is 1.5 km; from No.3 to No.4 is 300 meters; from No.4 to Flower Terrace is 2 km. 👉🏻Houses No.1 and No.2 are surrounded by forest and snow mountains. After General Bridge, you won’t see the river again until Flower Terrace. If you only want to see forest and snow mountains and have limited stamina, you can return after House No.1. Going to Houses No.2 and No.3 involves some climbing, and many visitors find this section tiring. The scenery here is also quite similar, as shown in photos p8 to p14. 👉🏻House No.3 Kala has a relatively high hillside with horses for photos, and you can also photograph the dry-land scallions. 👉🏻From House No.4 Kala, walking inward for about ten minutes leads to a large flower field with a broad view of snow mountains, as in p15 and p16. 👉🏻Flower Terrace is the end of the park route. The glacier inward blocks further passage, and now only the hiking crossing route can pass through here. You can see another river here, with general scenery as in p17 (this photo was not taken on the same day; when I visited, the weather changed at 3 PM, so I only walked a bit past House No.4 and didn’t continue. This photo was taken later during the Shata Grand Loop hike passing Flower Terrace). 🐎About Horse Riding House No.1 is the starting point for horse riding with unified ticketing. It is recommended to arrive before noon; if you come late, the first batch of horses will be gone, and you will have to wait for riders to return, which takes several hours before horses are available again. Horse riding costs 80 RMB per hour. Round trips from House No.1 to No.4 cost 160 RMB; round trips to Flower Terrace cost 240 RMB. At the endpoint, there is a half-hour photo time. One-way horse riding fees are half price. Here, one groom leads many horses. The groom rides one horse and leads one or two horses for tourists, with the rest following behind. If you are afraid, tell the groom to lead your horse.

From Zhaosu to Xia Valley Scenic Area is approximately 70 km, a 1.5-hour drive. • Self-drive 🚙: Starting from Urumqi, the total distance is about 900 km, passing through Dushanzi and Yining. It's recommended to split the drive over two days to enjoy the stunning views along the Duku Highway and Yizhao Highway (Yizhao Highway is only open from June to October)!
