Beautiful scenery, but too many people and poor hygiene
Enjoy a two-day trip to Weihai for just 2,000 yuan per person! I watched the sunrise at Naxianghai, cycled along the Maotoushan coastal path, and explored China's most beautiful coastline—but be sure to avoid these pitfalls! As the first rays of sunlight shone on the reefs near Naxianghai, waves crashed against the pink sand, a lighthouse stood quietly in the distance, and a flock of seagulls skimmed across the golden water. I sat in a clifftop cafe, sipping a hot latte, the melody of waves and wind chimes filling my ears—at that moment, I finally understood why the saying "half of poetry is found in distant places, half of life is in Weihai." This time, as a travel blogger, I spent two days and one night, on a budget of less than 2,000 yuan per person, to deeply explore this underrated coastal city: overlooking the emerald bay from Maotoushan No. 5 Observation Deck, cycling down to the sea on Torch 8th Street, and gazing back at the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 from Liugong Island. This place boasts China's cleanest waters and the most relaxing slow-paced lifestyle, but it also hides many "influencer traps"—today, I'll share my real experiences and a guide to avoiding them! 🌅 Day 1: Cycling around the sea × Checking in at Torch 8th Street: Experience Weihai's youthful charm Depart from Beijing South Railway Station early this morning (the G-train high-speed train takes about 5.5 hours to Weihai Station, priced at 386 yuan). It's recommended to take an early train to avoid the crowds. After exiting the station, take a taxi to a B&B near Hanlefang (we recommend "Haidu·Shanhaijian" or "Qixiashe," with ocean view rooms including breakfast for around 680 yuan/night). These are centrally located and conveniently located. After dropping off your luggage, head straight for Torch 8th Street—a popular spot online for its slope that leads directly to the sea. ⚠️[Avoid Pitfall Zone ①] Don't go at noon! It's strongly recommended to go before 7:00 a.m. or after 5:30 p.m. Otherwise, not only will the crowds be intense, but backlit photos will also be prone to wasted photos. I scooted down the slope on a shared bike (deposit 1.5 yuan/hour) early this morning, aiming my camera at the distant lighthouse. A stunning photo of "sailing to the end of the sea and sky" was easily captured. Then, embark on the highlight of the coastal cycling route: starting from Putao Beach, passing the International Beach and the Golden Bay Boardwalk, and ending at Maotou Mountain Observation Deck No. 5 (approximately 8 kilometers). Every frame along the way feels like a movie scene: Putao Beach: sparsely populated and clear water, perfect for a dip; Golden Bay Boardwalk: winding over the reefs, overlooking Liugong Island; Maotou Mountain Observation Deck No. 5: A suspended glass platform offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the emerald bay—a must-see for aerial photography! In the afternoon, board a boat to Liugong Island (round-trip ferry ticket plus scenic area ticket 138 yuan, 20-minute cruise). This is the site of the First Sino-Japanese War Memorial and a National 5A Scenic Area: Visit the First Sino-Japanese War Museum to learn about the rise and fall of the Beiyang Fleet; Visit Ding Ruchang's residence and the Naval Academy to experience the profound history; The island has an excellent ecological environment, with sika deer roaming freely, creating a secret marine environment. ⚠️[Avoid Pitfalls ②] Don't fall for "low-cost day tours"! Outside the station, scalpers tout "Liugong Island and Chengshantou for 99 yuan," but in reality, they're cutting short your visit and forcing you to shop. Plan your own itinerary for more freedom and authenticity. In the evening, return to the city and enjoy dinner at Hanlefang Night Market (60 yuan per person): Korean sausage, seafood pies, Spanish mackerel dumplings, and Rushan oysters (freshly grilled, 10 yuan each), a fusion of exotic flavors and local delicacies. 🏖️ Day 2: Sunrise at Naxianghai × Team 5· Baohai Station: Savor the romance for the final journey Awake at 4:30 AM the next day and share a ride to Rongcheng Naxianghai Scenic Area (approximately one hour, approximately 80 yuan per person, free admission). This is one of Weihai's most pristine beaches, boasting rare pinkish-brown fine sand and crystal-clear waters. I checked the tide tables in advance and arrived at Diamond Beach before sunrise. I set up my tripod and waited for the sun to break the surface. At that moment, the entire beach was dyed a golden orange, and the windmills in the distance slowly turned, a breathtaking beauty. Naxianghai is more than just a beach; it's a resort town: Strange Rock Park: Jagged rocks resemble animals, and you can collect shells at low tide; British-style lighthouse: A perfect photo spot; light-colored long skirts are recommended; Cliffside Café Port: Facing the sea, a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake equals a perfect morning. On the way back at noon, I stopped by Team Five Sea-Holding Station (free admission). This hidden gem: blue tin houses, colorful shipping containers, and a spiral staircase leading directly to the sea. It's a picturesque spot with a vibrant atmosphere and few tourists, and any photos you take are Instagram-worthy. End the afternoon with a free walk to the Yuehai Park Lighthouse: The twin lighthouses stand tall on the coast, with the cross-sea bridge in the background, a gentle yet resolute sight. Return to Weihai Station at 3:00 PM and take the high-speed train back to Beijing, concluding this refreshing and stress-free coastal trip. ✅ Cost Breakdown (≈ 1,970 yuan per person) Round-trip high-speed rail ticket: approximately 772 yuan One night's accommodation (two people sharing): 680 yuan Scenic spot entrance fee + ferry ticket + transportation: approximately 328 yuan Food + car rental + insurance + souvenirs: approximately 490 yuan 📌 Ultimate Tips to Avoid: ❗ Weihai has abundant seafood, but be careful when choosing from mobile stalls at the night market! To avoid gastrointestinal discomfort, prioritize chain restaurants or time-honored establishments. ❗ Always wear a helmet when cycling along the coastal route. Traffic can be heavy on some sections, so safety is paramount. ❗ Avoid blindly pursuing "influencer" photo opportunities. Torch 8th Street, for example, has become overly commercialized. Moderate photo-ops are sufficient. ❗ Naxianghai is far away, so a day trip might be tight. It's recommended to leave early and return late, or stay overnight for a more relaxed experience. On the day I left, I placed a piece of sea glass I had found inside a postcard with the words "WELCOME TO WEIHAI." It's not a gem, but it reflects the gentle warmth of sunlight, waves, and time. If you also want a place where you can enjoy the blue sky and azure sea, yet escape the hustle and bustle, go to Weihai— Let the breeze from Maotou Mountain dispel anxiety, let the sunrise over Naxianghai ignite hope, let this journey of cleanliness, sincerity, and a slow pace of life become the most soothing northern coastline in your heart.

🚶♀️ Weihai's top attractions! A true dream vacation destination for everyone! We've compiled three no-brainer dining and shopping routes, including hidden gems. Save them and copy them! 🧑🏼💻 Attraction Sharing 1. Coastal Road Our self-drive coastal road was absolutely amazing! The road was smooth and clean. As we circled the coastline, we gazed up at the blue sky and white clouds ⛅️, and our spirits soared. No need to search for scenic spots; stop at any observation deck and take photos of the unfiltered beauty. It felt like stepping into a painting, and the more we visited, the more addicted we became! 2. Xixiakou Shendiaoshan Zoo Once inside the zoo, the chubby animals were incredibly adorable. Tigers and lions basked on the rocks, giraffes gracefully nibbled leaves, and seals 🦭 chased the waves by the sea. You could even hand-feed them—it was a truly interactive experience! Remember to bring bread 🥯, water, and snacks; prices inside the zoo are a bit high. 3. Jiming Island After arriving on the island, walk along the seaside wooden boardwalk. The winding stone path 🪨 and the seaweed houses with shimmering green thatch roofs look like something out of a fairytale. Take any photo, no filters needed. The Cliff Café's terrace is a great spot to relax and order a sea salt latte. Watching the waves crash against the rocks is a truly relaxing experience. 4. Seaside Ferris Wheel Getting into the Ferris wheel cabin is truly amazing! As it slowly ascends to its highest point, the breathtaking scenery of Weihai Bay unfolds before your eyes. The ocean is as blue as jelly, and Liugong Island in the distance is clearly visible. The sense of expansiveness truly melts away all the stress. We chose the 6 pm train. The setting sun 🌇 dyed the sea orange, and the cabin windows reflected the sunset glow. Every photo we took was a beautiful, filter-free masterpiece. 🧑🏼💻 Food Sharing 1. Chocolate Fisherman Their seafood steamboat, sea sausage rice, and Spanish mackerel dumplings are all must-try dishes! For a main course, opt for the Spanish mackerel dumplings – they're incredibly fresh. Paired with the authentic seafood steamboat and the savory and flavorful sea sausage rice, it's incredibly satisfying! 2. Sanshan Sweet Cafe Who knows! This place truly nails both desserts and light meals! ✨ The cakes and desserts 🍮 are delicious, and even the light meals are refreshing and tasty! The second-floor floor-to-ceiling windows are a perfect photo opp, flooded with natural light, making every snap a Korean Instagram-worthy hit. 3. Ah Zhu Roujiamo The warm, freshly baked pancake is filled with tender pork belly 🥩, perfectly marinated dried tofu, and a soft, white, hard-boiled egg. Doused in the owner's homemade chili oil, it's a delicious treat that will have you stamping your feet! 4. Jesse's Unicorn This shop has a charming facade, and the interior is bright and clean! The caramel banana mille-feuille tart is incredibly delicious. Bananas are such a delightful fruit 🍉, sweet yet not cloying. Eating it warms your heart. So adorable! ☁️October and November in Weihai offer crisp, clear autumn weather, with average temperatures between 15-20°C. Typhoons occasionally linger, but the impact is minimal!
