If you're not up for the physical challenge, you can opt to pay for a sedan chair ride up. The steps up the mountain are quite wide, and there are sections with railings where you can sit and rest, making the climb not too tiring. At the top, you'll find a large observation deck where you can enjoy a full view of Changbai Mountain's Tianchi Lake and the surrounding peaks. Next to the observation deck is the boundary marker between the two countries, a solemn and sacred spot where you can take photos from both sides. The South attraction of Changbai Mountain is located on the southern slope of Changbai Mountain. Compared to the North and West attraction, it has fewer visitors and more pristine scenery. Here you can find the Yalu River Grand Canyon, volcanic remnants and petrified wood landscapes, and you can also enjoy distant views of North Korea across the Yalu River along the way up the mountain. The summit of the South Scenic Area offers a panoramic view of Tianchi Lake. The southern slope of Changbai Mountain is near the county seat of Changbai Korean Autonomous County. It takes more than two hours to get there by car from Songjianghe Town, but transportation is not very convenient. Usually, it is recommended to private charter directly to the attraction. There is a tourist road of more than ten kilometers running alongside the Yalu River within the attraction. The emerald green river meanders, and dense pine trees cover the riverbanks, making for a beautiful landscape. You can often see North Korean border guards waving from a few meters away on the riverbank. On the western side of the Yalu River, the mountains are covered with a spectacular sight left behind by a volcanic eruption—a forest of petrified wood. Vast stretches of tall trees were buried underground when the lava burned, due to a sudden change in the terrain, and remained dormant for countless years. However, the South attraction of Changbai Mountain is not open to individual tourists for the time being. It is currently only open to visitors of specific products such as high-end customized tours and science tourism, as well as visitors on chartered flights, and is subject to a reservation system with limited number of people and time.Changbai County · 73.8 km from Changbai Mountain

The area north of Tianchi Lake in Changbai Mountain is known as the North attraction of Changbai Mountain. There are more attractions here than on the West Slope and South Slope, but there are also more visitors.attractionThe Changbai Mountain Waterfall, Julong Spring, and Valley Forest are all classic geological wonders. You can also take a shuttle bus to experience the rapid curves and then overlook the beautiful scenery of Changbai Mountain Tianchi from the steep main peak. Upon entering the attraction, you must first take an eco-friendly bus to the transfer center. From there, you can choose to take the shuttle bus on the left-hand road to view the main peak and Changbai Mountain Tianchi Lake, or take the eco-friendly bus on the right-hand road to view Changbai Waterfall. If the weather is good in the morning, you can go up to the main peak first when there are fewer visitors and take the shuttle bus (usually a Mercedes-Benz van, 20 minutes one-way) to experience the thrill of continuously and rapidly navigating the curves on the winding mountain road. After getting off the shuttle bus, it's about a ten-minute walk uphill to the top. There are two routes, A and B, with signs indicating them. Usually, you take route A to the top and then continue on route B to descend, avoiding backtracking. If time is limited, you can complete route A and then descend directly via the steps between the two routes. Take the eco-friendly bus from the transfer center directly to the waterfall parking lot (10 minutes one-way). Walk up the boardwalk for a short distance to see Julong Spring and Changbai Waterfall. That waterfall is the outlet of Tianchi Lake, and its 68-meter drop is truly spectacular. The hot spring plaza here sells uniquely flavored hot spring eggs, which you can try. You can also wash your hands in the nearby hot spring pool and experience the volcanic hot spring. It's a five-minute drive from the waterfall parking lot by eco-bus.Little Heavenly Lake,Little Heavenly LakeIt's a tranquil little lake, its surface reflecting the elegant forms of the trees. After lingering for a few minutes, you can return along the boardwalk, where you can see the Erdao Baihe River flowing through the narrow canyon. After about 15 minutes of walking, you'll reach the entrance to Green Abyss Pool. There's a large restaurant called Lanjing Fast Food here that offers lunch; it's located within the attraction, but the prices are relatively high. Green Abyss Pool is a pool of emerald green water, with a waterfall cascading down the cliff on one side. On the way back along the boardwalk after visiting Green Abyss Pool, you'll see Jade Spring. From the parking lot in front of Blue View Fast Food, it's a five-minute drive to...Entrance to the Valley ForestStrolling along the boardwalk through the primeval forest is very pleasant. At the end, you can overlook the forest that sinks into the valley, but you cannot go down to the bottom of the valley at present. The valley forest is the closest scenic spot to the mountain gate. It is about a 40-minute drive from the attraction.Erdaobaihe TownIt's a major tourist hub, with various hotels, shops, restaurants, and bars, all reasonably priced. If you have some free time, you can visit the Changbai Mountain Natural History Museum in town, or watch a traditional folk opera performance at the Northeast Wind Changbai Mountain Grand Theatre. Nearby attractions like the Daxitaihe scenic area and the Magic scenic area are also worth checking out.Antu · 32.6 km from Changbai Mountain

Changbai Mountain, true to its name, is incredibly clean! The restrooms in all areas were spotless, with sensor-activated flushes and hot water for handwashing – a truly touching experience for an autumn/winter trip. The restrooms had different themes, such as sables and black bears, adding a touch of vibrancy. We arrived a little late; most of the leaves had fallen, and it was the dry season, so the waterfalls weren't at their most beautiful. The small Tianchi Lake wasn't worth visiting yet; it's small, the water quality is so-so, and the surrounding forests are bare. Overall, the autumn air was crisp and clear. The 50-kilometer stretch from the distribution center to the transfer center was beautiful, vibrant with color, and Tianchi Lake was stunning. I especially loved the forest at the bottom of the valley; the pine scent was wonderful! I highly recommend walking to the end; there are vast, fairytale-like forests there, and we were lucky enough to encounter foxes and quite a few chipmunks along the way!

Except for the inconvenient transportation, everything else is good. First, the angle of Tianchi is good, and it is the most complete slope, and you can see all four slopes. Second, the ecological protection is good. Since it was opened the latest, the vegetation is original. Third, the distance is short after getting off the bus, so there is less walking. Fourth, there are attractions such as the double waterfalls and the Yalu River Grand Canyon.

The three-day, two-night stay was very fulfilling. The resort hotel facilities were quite good, nestled against the mountains and beside the water, and quite spacious. Even though Changbai Mountain was closed due to weather, there were still plenty of fun things to do in the resort area. The breakfast was plentiful, cleaning was prompt, and the service was excellent. 👍 A great place to play in the snow in winter and escape the heat in summer.

Besides rafting, the forest also offers swings, deck chairs, and other relaxing facilities. During the National Day holiday, it took an hour to drive in for rafting, but the queue lasted two to three hours. The scenic area only has one road in and out, which is narrow and mixes pedestrians and vehicles, making it difficult to get in or out. They said the forest development permits were difficult to obtain, and the staff had already tried their best to guide visitors and provide shuttle buses to those in distant parking areas; their service was quite good. I really hope they can find a way to optimize the flow of people, expand the parking lot in front of the scenic area, or consider implementing a one-way system like the one in the valley. There are also tent hotels inside.
